Favourite Tail Pipe Design?

Featured Replies

If a certain 'un-named' supplier were to create a new exhaust system for the Octavia, and then at some point the Fabia too. What style of tail pipe do YOu think would look best?

ie: Twin pipes?

3" round

6x4 Oval etc etc

Disco

Straight twin pipes (like the Militek ones), or the tilted upwards (DTM style IIRC?) twin pipes would do it for me...

Q.

Twin round DTMs...

I quite liked my 6x4 squared oval upswept tailpipe dustbin thingy! :D

As much as I do like it and others also seem to like it. I'm considering going for something a bit more subtle. Something like twin square pipes. Possibly one round 4" exit.

Bit like being at a Harvester.

Would you like French Fries, Lattice Fries, Baked Potato, New Potatoes ........

Call me old fashioned but round with a hole in the middle would do for me.

Does it actually make any difference to the flow??????

It'll be fake bumper heat shields like the Rover Z's next!

;) ;)

Quick Disco, niche in the market! :D

Me 6x4 oval please

Oh dear, what have I done.

5" jap style either side of the bumper

- screw the wheel well -thats what a mig welders for!

oh and dont forget the overfueling on lift off for plenty of flames

Enormous twin pipes each side of the car coming out just under the rear doors complimented by an enormous bonnet scoop jacked up rear end & 30" dia rear tyres, Oh & a chevy 6 Litre Lump with rear wheel drive.

But seriously nothing too in yer face, something that will give better performance & a "slightly" enhanced engine note. None of these 5" bean cans you see hanging out the back of the Jap cars & certainly nothing like the HKS Mega

Twin pipes would be nice but I gather the spare wheel well may preclude that

Yeah, having a single round pipe on both sides at the back would do me fine to :D But I predict a day after installing, I would run a flat tyre ;)

I'd have four pipes each side please, all facing up to the sky, BRM 'Old Faithful' style! Hmm, pity I don't have a V8... ;)

No, I'm with Stuart here - and probably the rest of the 4x4 boys: something unobtrusive with a slightly darker, burblier - but not louder - sound.

To give you an idea - Milltek's Jet twin pipe is already too much of an eye-catcher for me.

OK, well I've decided to develop it with two tail pipe designs.

One with a Twinpipe exit which we are doing now, and one with a more subtle oval design which will be done soon, as it requires a different backbox internal configaration.

Hopefully we should get some impressions on the first system this afternoon, there are a few areas where the flow passage has been improved. Firstly on the downpipe the taper from the turbo is much smoother and the exit from that has been flowed better too. And then on the main system we are positioning the silencer nearer the bumper and then using the vast recess for the standard system to create a smoother flow passage there too.

Looking forward to the results

Disco

Would have liked to have a pipe either side but I'll settle for twin slash cut.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Unfortunately tailpipes either side are a bit of a nonestarter. Mainly due to the recess of the normal exhaust system, undulating out of this will creat too much unwanted back pressure Though it could be done for those after looks rather than performance.

Disco - I take it you are just doing this system for the RS? I'm trying (not very hard admittedly) to find out if any options are available for my SLX. I prefer not to lose cats altogether - I do care a bit about the planet - but not sure whether otherwise my exhaust is the same as an RS. Anybody care to comment?

Disco,

sounds like a de-catted system to me; I'd like to go the sports CAT route a' la Milltek.

Will the system be able to fit after the standard CAT if I didn't want to go the de-cat route?

I know you can't please everyone all the time etc.

Cheers.

Adrian.

decided the milltek option is for me... goes on on friday complete with the sport cats...

can find out what the gains are if anyone has rollers near chorley?

cats are for girls ;)

also my parrot doesn't like them :D

I'm going to listen to yours today Dave :D

Hmm, replace Miltek with full decat H&S? Quite possibly! The flow angles on your new one look much better than your current one, I think it will make a big difference :D

no fair :(

i know

but my cat "malibu" said i could have them on the car as long as they didnt eat whiskers.

Tee hee! :D

Fingers crossed it'll be up and running when I get over there. May I take it out and rag the nuts off it, all in the name of science of course? :D

SkodiRS/ncarring; Currently it will be a decat system for both vRS and 1.8T units (inc SLXi). At some point we may look at a rear section replacement, but the costs involved with handmade systems means that a sports cat version would be financially too much, compared to Milltek etc.

Jon: Based on yesterdays progress I think tomorrow looks more likely if thats OK with you?

I went round late yesterday evening and they were flow testing the front downpipe and cat replacement section and the flow improvement was very impresive.

Cheers for that Disco!

I understand entirely.

With your vast knowledge of the "business" is there anyone else who does a sports CAT for the RS 9and 1.8T engine)?

Cheers.

Adrian.
