Service spanner came on!!!!

Featured Replies

i did not think the Vrs had a service warning could someone shed any light on this please. The spanner was accompanined by a INSP flashing for about 5 minutes.

What mileage have you done and how old is it?

Its the service light telling you the car is due an annual inspection.

the car has done 14666 miles and it is an 04 reg

I take it you had a service at 10,000 miles then, when was that done?

  • Author

no i did not have a 10000 mile, i have not had it back in yet

Then you are 4,666 miles past your first service and probably dont have any warranty, sorry mate.

Almost 5k past due service on a remapped car?

Oops...not clever.

so if i go and get it serviced will my warranty be alright afterwards?

You usually get an allowance with services...

But 4666 miles past is probably stretching it just a bit.

All you can do is ask....

No you have to have your car serviced with in certain mileage

With MB it was 500 miles and 750 miles for Vauxhall iirc

Allowance is usually around 1500 miles over or under.

Near 5,000 is taking the proverbial.

Fixed servicing is every 10,000 miles or a year whatevewr comes first, it tells you that in both your owners manual and your service book.

So am i not going to have a warranty again?

  • Author

or is it up to my dealer?

or is it up to my dealer?

yes it is.

okay will speak to them tomorrow

Although if it's modified already you've lost your warranty anyway ;)

Are you sure about that??? :rubchin: :)

Yeah i think he is right, if you have the car remapped for example, and something goes wrong that could in the slightest way be connected they will void your warranty. I have been thinking, if i am doing about 25-30k a year it might not be cost effective for me to have the warranty anyway by the tkime i pay for 3 servicings a year.

Well technically it is down to the dealer's discretion. :) Skoda's warranty terms are very clear and say that any modifications from standard will void it, however, a friendly service manager may turn a blind eye to it. No guarantee though, especially if the service manager is replaced by a not-so-friendly one..... :D

is it still down to the dealers discretion after discussion on a public forum?

Depends how long you are keeping the car.

30k between services on a remapped engine it's likely to suffer premature wear and be worth a lot less when you try and sell it. Who's going to risk buying a car that's missed one or two services a year?

At my local dealer three services would cost around

And what about warranty claims that are not remap related?

Let's say for instance your aircon system falls apart...

Ooops...no claim admissable because you missed 1 service.

The warranty / remap saga isn't as cut & dried as you might think...

I'm still confused as to why his service notification light has only just come on though?

Steve

Just a question

Is this your first NEW car ?

I only ask, as it is strange to let the milage go that far past the 10 K, before getting it serviced.
