So what exactly is a Cupra Intake?

Featured Replies

Ok,

So I've been reading about a Cupra Intake and know nothing about engines and stuff. What is the Cupra Intake, how easy is it to fit and can you see it from the exterior once fitted?

Thanks,

How to fit article and pictures

(Note by DGW: Try this link if you can't see pictures in the first one)

(Note by ColinD: First Link superseeded, both now point to the same location.)

Basically the Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI 160 has a different air intake pipe that goes from the front of the car to the airbox (with the filter in it) the pipe is about 50% bigger so its less restrictive. now seat wouldnt put it there unless there was a reason for it so it must benifit the car... which also means it must benifit a remapped TDI 130 (mine has 185bhp) my car is alot smoother and smokes alot less now.

Your average dealer will probably not notice it unless they are looking at it specifically :)

hope this helps

If you search in the fabia forums for "cupra" youll see several threads covering this subject and RR results :)

also.... Welcome to briskoda

Welcome!

On my lowly TDI PD100 *cough, the cupra intake provides the sort of intake pipe you entire fist could disappear into. whereas the OEM intake pipe had a really tiny gap to get through (in comparison) So, basically more air = more ooomph.... or something like that. ;) and as mine has been Jabba'd already, it seems to smoke a little less and boost up a *little sharper, so is all good for

Thanks guys,

So do I need to order both

6LL 129 621 for the tube - Euro

6LL 129 618 for the bumper end part - Euro?

The intake is split into two pieces, you need both.

You should be able to see this from the HowTo in the articles section :)

 Thanks

Essentially you need air and fuel to make the "bang" in the engine. On a diesel, especially a remapped one, the car tends to run rich (ie there is more fuel than can be burnt going into the engine) and fuel is coming out of the exhaust partially burnt. To make a car run less rich, more air can be put into the engine which means more of the fuel is burnt (resulting in a bigger bang and the car accelerating faster). The ideal fuel/air mix is where all the fuel is completely burnt.

So basically the Cupra intake is a way to feed more air into the engine because it has a wider neck than the standard one. :)

What a very hairy arm you have

What do you think of it???

Is there an equivalent part suitable for the Octy?

May be of interest to thos ewho have the same engine in a bigger car, not me you understand, but I know some do have turbo diesels ;)

Tavia is your SDI ##cough## a common rail then ?

Dunno :shugs:

I drove an SDI once, it was shockingly slow unlike your SDI ;)

I would not be surprised if they're all the same ;) You after another half a BHP out your SDI then?

Dont know if anyone else has experiences this too, but the Cupra Intake doesnt seem to fit entirely flush and over the course of a couple of weeks it will retract from the bumper end part by a cm or 2 which cant help air flow, what I did was use some black ductape to hold it down so it can't loose air but still has a bit of flex so as to not distrupt air flow (basically wrapped it around a couple of times), although it doesnt look the neatest under the bonnet to your engine conesseur it certainly seems to further improve throttle response and make sure you are getting every last bit from the Intake.

 It fitted straight into mine, nice chunky CLICK as it clicked into the grille end, it fitted smoothly over the airbox and the screw held it all in. Not sure why it would become detached from the front though. Might check mine tomorrow, but it felt really sure-footed when I fitted it. I got that "that's going nowhere" feeling.

Sorry prehaps some confusion, its where the intake pipe meets the bumper end part :)

Yeah, with the two big clips on top of it, that fit into slots on the bumper end? That bit felt quite solid to me.

Jason, remember that song "You've got that headlight cover sinking feeling"? :P ;)

I take it this voids the warranty?

Do you need an expert to fit it or can anyone do it? COs im clueless with things like this, n I mean zero experience in this field!

Thanks
