Canon EOS 300D

Featured Replies

Went to Lakeside yesterday, and it was a big mistake to pop into the camera shop in Brompton Walk. My dad left the store considerably lighter in pocket, having just purchased an EOS 300D with a 18-150mm Sigma lens. He only went in for a look, and when I said I had used one and how good it was he was hooked.

The way I see it, he will most likely hardly use it so it looks like I'll be using it most.

How much?

One web site had them for

Hope he didn't pay over the odds for one, you can get one online with the canon 18-55mm lens for

So is the Sigma a better lens than the Canon then??

I also saw Jessops had a deal on the 300D which included a black 300D, battery pack, mem card and cash back for

Fairish nuff. What lens is it exactly out of interest? You said 18-150 above, didn't know they did one?

K....just noticed I misread the lens size :o

oops, its a 18-125mm Lens. F3.5-5.6, with SLD Glass, and the box is marked for Digital AF.

Sounds like a good deal then, those lenses are 200 squid alone.

Am sorely tempted to get a 300D to replace my EOS 5, am trying to justify it to myself by thinking of all the money I'll save on processing costs... :)

5000+ pics on mine and I've not turned it on in three months.

Now on one hand it's cost me as I only took a few pics anyway on compacts, since getting it I've taken loads, but hardly printed any. If you still have your EOS glass then it in my mind makes a great purchase. I have an Epsom R800 printer and on A4 it's results are simply great, brilliant on 6x4's. I passed some prints around and was asked where they were printed, jessops or online etc. Although there maybe better printers and it maybe more cost effective to print via your local Jessops. The results maybe a little more glossy if you see, but thats paper quality.

Stop it, you're not helping!!! ;) Must....save....some...money....for..house...deposit....

Problem for me as a 35mm EOS user is that I love taking piccies, but then I have to get them developed, which usually means me giving them to Mrs Kentish who then hoards them for months and when finally developed you have forgotten what they were or where.

Holiday in Florida last time, 22 film cannisters, 3/4,s of the shots wiped out by the airport scanners

So its either develop only when away, or go 300D.

Dunno, from what I've seen the R800 is the best photo printer at the moment - certainly the results I've seen compare favourably to "kiosk" prints.

There are "third party" cartridges available too, which would bring the price per print down considerably. Though I suppose replacing 8 cartridges is never exactly going to be cheap... ;)

Rob.

Duncan..

I'm quite happy to drag the 300D + Kit along when i come down to make that err... "collection" ;)

As for the Sigma 18-125.

Nice lens that, t'was second on my list for my latest purchase but i went for the Canon 28-135IS instead. The Image Stabilisation swung it for me :)

I might know of a reasonably priced, A1 Condition Canon 75-300 USMIII if anyone is interested.... ;)

That'd be great Geoff, would be nice to see one in action and have a little play.

Canon's IS tech is great, worth it on long lenses. Works well on their binoculars as well, although they are somewhat ergonomically challenged.

Yeah, the RX600 uses the same printing technology as the R200/R300, so will produce brilliant results.

Any idea what make those cartridges are, and whether they're refilled or not?

And yes,
