not yet but its very close now B):D

yep want a 6 tommy m edition ;)

Bill................tell me you work with intercoolers for a living???

No not really.

I'm just an HGV fitter......but I got an interest in "auto math" many years ago when I did a 6 year stint at college where I got a full tech cert, IMI and IRTE.

Funny really cos I was hopeless at school, but when I got to college and started doing applied mathematics it all started to make sense.....if that makes sense :)

:D Dont just jump on the "Forge is best" band wagon just because its the norm. Unless u have had a cheap Intercooler on a dyno power run then changed it because it was **** to a better brand PERSONALLY, then all i will be is ur opinion with no proof to back it up first hand. The fact is my Intercooler is 24x12x3, thats near enough the largest you can go bar 24x12x4.It mite not be calculated scientifically, but it is a good choice technically by size. It would be different if u had been down this road but u haven't, so its just your opinion witch is nothing to base facts on :wonder: Like i said there are plenty of Corsa red top turbos running around 400bhp using cheap ebay intercoolers with no problems so ill just find out the hard way then.

Is there anyone with REAL personal experience to give me :o

so to get you magical power what engine work you planning ??????

what bore you going with 1.9 or 2.0ltr?

Never thought I'd say this but I think Clive is right..... lol

Seen has you have decided what your final target horsepower will be, might I suggest that a more reliable way to achive your goals would be to put a little thought into what will be required to achieve 475bhp.

Start by calculating AF (Actual mass airflow in pounds per minute to achieve 475bhp)

Next calculate T2C ( Charge air temp from compressor @ max AF)

Next calculate the IC internal flow area of the core to minimize pressure drop through the intercooler.

Next calcualate the IC core size that achieves the required charge flow area.

IMO if you were to do the above you'd end up with a totally different style and size IC on your car

Ebay cooler CFM= 1050 @ 0.5 P.S.I drop

Intercooler size= 24x12x3 (inch)

Compressr = 60.9ib/min at a 3.0:1 pressure ratio

Peak= 400BHP (Being Realistic :smirk: )

We're having it bored out to a 2.0L with bigger/stronger/lighter internals

Baffled sump

Up rated fuel pump

Pistons (Forged)

Titanium double valve springs

Ported/polished/Gas flowed head

Solid lifters and retainers

newman or schrick cams

Genesis 830cc injectors

Plus a lot of other stuff i cant remember aswell. This isnt going to be a every day car just stripped out Santa pod 1/4mile slut promoting my mates performance garage. Its no pipe dream ;)

Sorry, but when it comes to selecting an appropriate IC to achieve 475bhp, then simply sqeezing in the biggest and cheapest double pass IC you can get, will defo not work.......if only it were that simple.

One reason why I dont like this cooler is because its not as you describe, a technically good choice 24x12x3 core, it is in fact a technically poor choice 48x6x3 core with a 180 degree bend in the middle.

And as you prob already know, over long IC cores like this are comparatively inefficient and result in increased pressure drop.

The end tanks also look to be of a poor quality design and would prob cause uneven flow through the IC core which may lead to internal syphoning.

Good luck anyway.....its always nice to see somone trying out different things.

Unless you've try'd it or know someone how has its still a opinion with no substance yet again :dull: But yea we're trying something different, i agree with that

i think a RR is due.

Well, I've not seen so many experts in one thread all at the same time before. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

If only I had something better than a 1.4 16v. emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

Not wishing to highjack but does anyone know if reclining the front seats flat will give better bhp?

i think a simple test between a forge unit and the universal one should answer all issues. well most of them. :S

lol this is the man you prob need to spk to as he really has done it seen it and spent££££££ researching and doing it to his monster

des is the only one i can think of that has hit that sort of power and he really would be the person to ask as he has tried just about every performance part you can buy or have built.

good luck with it

the only other thing is you havent chosen a good car for 1/4 mile sprints would have been alot better in a 4x4 golf ???

p.s you must be rich lol

make sure you post a build thread would be cool to see the monster built good luck

Well we was researching the possibility of taking the gear box and Rear diff/drive shafts and so on off the TT-225 and use a custom prop shaft with the exhaust coming out the front wing or flat custom side exhaust exit. Haven't got that far yet tho, still stripping the engine bay. Its my car but im not doing all the work, joint project  Dyno power runs are all good but on a 1/4 mile strip you cant argue with that  .

Waiting to get jumped on again :'(

i say good look pal. i'm all for trying something different after all the world and this forum would be a rather boring place if everyone did the same thing :dull:

and if it does'nt work at least you can say you had a go

Lost me mate, what you on about, " anything else I need"....... for what ????

If you want me to comment on the spec's you have quoted, then I will.

Apart from the turbo CPR info.....its all BS.

If you are genuinely wanting to achieve 475bhp ???, or is it 400bhp now ??? and need advice, then why not talk to some of the established VAG tuning companies.

Alternatively try contacting some of the people on here that have already done it

One thing for certain though, you can't turn a 180bhp family hatch back into a safe and reliable 475bhp road going car on the cheap.

HTH

Bill.

why so many people giving someone **** for doing this and his way, jealously maybe?

not every one has a huge budget and things can be done on the cheap if you pick the right parts and actually look around a bit instead of following the crowd!

whats wrong with the info then, obviously you know more than you are letting on?
