What diesel do you use in your Fabia vRS'?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Question's in the title really. Just wondering what diesel all you Fabia vRS drivers use?

I usually use Tesco's (gotta love clubcard points!) But would I be better using Maxol's diesel or Texaco's?

Cheers,

The cheapest I can find  Actually it's Murco (used to be JET)

Often Tesco, but whatever is cheapest is fine, and my car runs better on it for some reason too. I do add a good dose of Millers though to every fill-up.

Total fuel for me. Always seems to be cheapest and gives a good return on mpg for me. Only other's I use are Shell and sometimes supermarkets. Usually whatever is cheapest and most convenient (sp?)!

Shell. Stangely normally from the same fuel station in my town. Last year our of 14 fills only 2 of them were not from it, only one of them was non shell (BP in Dover). In 2008 all 22 fills were Shell.

I use it as as my dad has a Shell card and normally need to fill before a journey, is a 24h garage and normally the cheapest. I normally use normal shell (extra), but sometimes when they send offers to get bonus points if V-power is used for a certain amount of fills.

Mine did vary, but now a 24H local Texaco has opened, it's usually there that I fill up. It's generally cheaper than anywhere within 10miles too, and there's not point travelling further than that for cheaper fuel

Shell diesel for me, From the same station and pump lol

Maybe its just me but I think Im getting less from Tescos. I normally use Shell. Texico a couple of times and thats it.

Never tried V-power, though I may try some millers additive thingy though.

Speaking of Shell, apparently on other forums some say the new 'fuel saver' doesn't actually increase mpg, some say it is worse.. thoughts?

The cheapest I can find

Me too.

Although our local Shell seems to be the cheapest nearby place.

RED DIESEL :giggle: £0.79

ONLY JOKING BEFORE YOU ALL GET ON YOUR SOAP BOX,

i fill up at tesco as its the closest station to my house

I've used Sainsbury's for the first 2 1/2 years ai owned the car. Last Chrismtas I switched to Shell as it's close to my work and often cheaper tham my supermarket. I'd previously thought that they'd all be the same so was quite to surprised to find it gave me 20-40 miles more per tank.

Around my parts supermarket fuel is virtually the same price as BP & Shell. My brother is one of those illusive people that fixes petrol pumps on forecourts - random job, but hey. The fuel that supermarkets get is basically the cheapest, of the cheap - primarily from a company called Greenergy. It doesn't have any of the additives that Shell and BP put into, even their standard fuels. The majority of his visits to stations is changing the fuel filters in the pumps. The ones at Tesco and Sainsbury's will need changed 2-3 times more often than those at Shell and BP. I know its not exactly scientific, but it hopefully shows that there is a difference, and they don't ''All get it from the same place'' which is the usual idea given on forums. If, like me, the branded stations are selling at the same price as the supermarket, then it really makes no sense to buy a cheaper product, when a better product is offered for the same price. On the other hand, if the supermarket is substantially cheaper, its not going to really make a big difference, and certainly won't damage an engine on anything. It is all very tightly regulated.

Only used Shell V-Power since I've had the car. The previous owner, who owned the car for 3 years, had only used this too.

Why do I use it? I'm sure most of it is "In the head" However I have noticed previous cars I have put v-power/BP ultimate they run a little smoother. Also think that the cleaning agents help.

Shell. Stangely normally from the same fuel station in my town.

In the 6 years I've had the car I'd say a maximum of 6 fill ups weren't at the same local Shell station (which isn't really local now I've moved house). I'm beginning to think it's OCD.

I never bothered with the expensive fuels until my dad got a Mitsubishi L200. It was fairly smokey, so he started using shell V power. It's make a small difference, and was easier to start. After this, and mapping my car, iv only used the expensive fuels. I used shell, then one evening I went to fill up and they close all but two of the pumps at night, so I asked if I could use the V power pump (wasn't at every one) and was told no. Since then iv not bothered and go to BP only. ****s

The problem is, if you fill up with V-Power or Ultimate at a station in a less affluent area you're more likely to be putting some crap into your tank, because the pumps is hardly used stuff can sit in it, and the filter can get clogged. Apparently some stations have the get the V-Power and Ultimate pumps overhauled because they are used so rarely.

When I had my Fabia vRS I was filling it mainly with Morrison's diesel or Tesco diesel and occasionally Shell fuel.

I said in another post recently.. I've tried to use BP ultimate since I bought it over 2 years and20k ago.

I've tried Shell V-Power.. it was smooth but just seemed a little too smooth.. almost flat? I gave it 2 full tanks as well to give the ECU a chance to adapt.

Christmas just gone I put 3 or so tanks of whatever was close and cheap in.. This gave me less MPG's and less push at overtaking speeds..

I know allot of people think the premium fuels are a waste of cash.. but I just think that, even if it's purely cleaning agents going through, then it's worth it... the fact I get the odd MPG more is a bonus.. and I'm convinced I can always feel the difference in fuel in 2nd gears willingness.

cheapest possible, or whatever im passing if im desperate, + millers additive

Only the best for my VRS Shell or BP

I tried BP Ultimate for a while in the old car but didn't see any difference either performance wise or economically - hence I just use what's cheapest now - which here is either Tesco or Shell...

Only used Shell V-Power since I've had the car

Been testing different fuels recently, the best for smoothness & POWERRRRR is BP Ultimate, best for mpg sainsburys LSD (low sulphur diesel) Award for BS: Shell fuel save & generally the worst my local total or texaco!

last couple off times I've needed to fill have been near work rather than home so it's been Shell fuel save - hate to say it (cos I think it's mostly marketing bullsh*t) but the car seems slightly less smokey and returns slightly better mpg... :| I've not had any really noticeable improvements from the likes of V-Power, Ultimate, Excellium etc or any problems using the likes of Tesco own
