What diesel do you use in your Fabia vRS'?

Featured Replies

People are saying it makes no difference then that they use the cheapest and add millers. Surely alot of the stuff in millers is the same stuff in the higher octane fuel?!

Matt

I do tend to use shell V-power diesel as i find the car does run more smooth and seems to rattle less. Also i think that if i have sent £££ on a hybrid turbo and custom map, what s a couple of quid every fill up!!!!

Just my opinion though

Matt

I always just use standard shell diesel. I tried about five tanks of v-power and it made no difference whatsoever

I prefer to use Shell Extra (now Fuel Save)

I've always used shell since I started driving, and only ever use other stations if I really have to !

Just put regular diesel in and occasionally put some vpower in which does make it run a bit smoother, shame it's so expensive though !!!!

I haven't noticed any saving in fuel since it changed to "fuelsave" either !!!

I have never noticed any difference with any of them, mpg or power. i use standard grade and it all comes from the Kingsbury terminal here, whatever pump it comes from. So why mess about with which logo is on the pump?

Buy the cheapest, then the rip off merches at BP will have to reduce their extortionate prices, cos they won't get any business.

A few years ago Evo magazine ran a very controlled test of standard fuels against Shell's then-Optimax and BP's Ultimate.

The upshot was that whilst the 'super' fuels only produced negligible increases in power, similar to fitting a performance air filter, the key element of their performance was the way the detergents in the fuel kept the deposits of carbon and residue in the fuel system almost down to nothing; valves and cylinder bores were virtually unscathed and hence the engines ran smoother. They also demonstrated these fuels could clean-up an engine that had experienced mild carbon build-up with prolonged use.

The resultant performance increase is quite subjective but the benefits of clean engine internals is obvious.

Used to always be Shell, as it was nearest my old job. Was getting 48-50mpg on average (b2b)

Moved jobs, and the Shell garage nearest my new place scammed my card, so had been going to Morrisons ever since.

I'd been watching the mpg and it co-incidentally started going down, could be the change to M's, could have been the different commute since moving jobs (less smooth motorway, more "interesting" country roads)

recently went back to Shell for a couple of tanks (different garage), and mpg seems to have improved, but this has also coincided with SWMBO going back to work and using the fabia more often for a similar journey to my old one.

I'm a Shell man - stick in V-power when I'm feeling flush - purely for its cleaning qualities, don't notice any difference in performance.

BP are rip-off merchants - always the most expensive (by a margin) around Glasgow but I suppose they've got a large bill from President Obama to pay.

Exactly how I feel.. and why I use BP Ultimate.... and also why cheap fuel with a shot of millers gives the same results.

I recently attended an ACPO event at the MIRA test facilities in Warwickshire where we shared the hotel bar with some BP Engineers.

Having seen various branded tankers using the same 'tanker fillers' (whatever they are called) at Manchester Fuel Terminal, I wondered if there was any real difference.

Turns out that the base fuel is the same, but the 'smart card' the driver swipes determines which blend of additives (if any!) are added as its filled - depending who the customer is. Hence you might sometimes see, for example,a Shell branded tanker (which is probably run by an independant haulier) delivering to a supermarket, but it will not be the same blended fuel as at a Shell station.

They insisted that fuel from the likes of BP, Shell, Esso etc is far better fuel to use long term, but may or may not be noticable on an individual tank full.

I agree, and avoid putting ANY supermarket fuel in! EVER! i cannot stand the stuff, even after they had that dodgy stuff.

He normally gets BP every time, and once and a while i will run some ultimate through. would be nice if there was a shell garage round here but you cant win em all

Usually use Tesco's finest in both the Furbie & Octy. Have tried Shell Ultimax or whatever its called (once) & noticed no difference in the Furbie; but the Octy runs smoother & pulls better on the expensive stuff

Shell V Power, from first fill of the VRS SE, from new Just like to keep it sweet
