Removing Door Sills and side panels

Featured Replies

This topic must be on the forum somewhere but i've searched around for ages and can't find anything :(

So...

How do you go about removing the side sills and side panneling on the Fabia then? With my old car you could see the screws and it was so easy.

Any advice or pointers would be more than welcome.

Cheers

GFS

P.s Sorry all is seem to post are questions on how to take my car apart i feel like such a rookie :o

The sill trims just pop up on clips, trouble is the metal clips are quite often stronger than the plastic trims so break, just go carefull. Its easier to get the entire sill trim off if you first take off the two b pillar trims, to take the top one off you need to undo the 17mm top seat belt mounting. These are both again held on with push in clips and wrapped around the door seals at the edge.

Ross,

Cheers for that, i'll go and have a quick look and try now :D

I remember the front wings are held on by bolts within the bonnet lip, if you know what I mean. I think there were three (ish) 10mm or 13mm bolts, and then something within the wheel arch too (need torx20 I think to remove the wheel arch liner too)

Oh yeah, I seem to remember a bolt down somewhere around where the front mudguard sits, if there is one. Will try to find piccies.

ok, see if this helps - my best effort in paint. :D

Its all good, i've taken them off. Cheers for the help.

Now to find how to get a power cable through the engine compartment :)

EDIT: Devon - are you talking about the very front panels down in the footwells?

If so yeah i couldn't work out how they came off :(

I thought you were talking about body panels ;) Was gonna question why in the first place.

I got the kick panel off (front left large bit) by just tugging on it quite hard, and eventually it popped off. I managed to route m 4awg without removing it though, by just attaching it to my older thinner power cable and pulling it through. ;)

Lol, god no not removing any body panels

Its quite cramped in the old engine bay where did you put the wire through? There are no obvious grommets around.

New cars are such a b

There is no need at all to dril any bodywork (this wont do much good to your 10 year anti perf warranty).

There are two ideal holes allready there in both inner and out bulkheads and they have grommets in them.

Feed the wiring up the right hand side to the first grommet, then through (there is wiring allready there to attatch to for security. Then in the second grommet. Take the glove box out and the wiring will run down next to the loom where you can cable tie it to.

Cheers guys,

Devon i saw the pics you took of your method and i did think a drill would be the only way to get 4 guage through it.

Ross, i'll look a bit harder for the grommits you are talking about as i couldn't see them :o

P.s have you hidden the fuse holder in the battery hood?

The way I deal with cars, I'd be surprised if its still in one piece in 10 years. :o

But yeah, Ross' way is a little smoother, although I too haven't actually looked hard at this route.

Ross, i have a screw there not a grommit?

Crumbs! Do you really need to remove all that to put one little wire through the bulkhead?

Looks like you've had a go at removing the windscreen too... :D

Is it not easier to turn the thing on it's roof and work from underneath?

 I did put on its roof.

Lol at you guys,

On a serious note its odd how my car lacks some of the grommets

Are you looking in the correct place, every Fabia ive ever seen has them, plastic grommet in the right hand corner.

Yup looking in the right place. All there is there is a screw though

But the hole in which the grommet blanks off is about an inch in diamter, must be a bleedin big screw.

  • Author

Nope its quite a small screw but no grommet in sight

I'm pretty sure i'm looking in the right place top right hand corner, but there is nothing there

Do you have a digital camera? If so take a piccie, im intrigued.
