The right choice ?

Featured Replies

Hi all Superb drivers

I have read this forum since June. My new Supberb is 2 weeks away from production but i am starting to suspect that there might be more problems with Skoda than i hoped for. We tested and considrerd the new E-class before ordering the Superb. At that time the Superb seemed like a much better deal.

I would really appresiate some feedback from you that drives Superb regarding quality and overall feel of the car.

Well, if you think there are problems with the Superb, may I suggest you have a gander on the Merc forums and look at the problems with the injectors on their latest diesel engines! I've only had mine since May but so far so good!

Coming up to a year with my Superb and no issues except "dodgy" door speakers. One of the best cars I have ever purchased. Rest easy and forget about that sexy german badge and enjoy the pile of dosh that you have saved.

I think the Superb is the best skoda to date.

I'm very happy with mine, it's skoda No. 5 I've owned.

I don't think you will be disappointed

Thanks for feedback. I apresiate your input

The worst thing about owning a Mercedes is having to deal with the dealers , in the main Skoda dealers are a much more pleasant experience . Truth is the Superb is a great car but it doesnt have the quality of the E class , you can see it here and there the leather for example isnt a patch on the Mercs, the carpets arent as nice the doors dont shut with the clunk that you get with a premium German marque

BUT

Once you are driving the car everything works so much better , the ride is easily as good the car is MUCH more spacous and better thought out , the nice little touches make up for it i feel plus the fact to spec a E class to a Elegance spec you would likely pay best part of £40k so if the E class is better quality is it twice as good ?? No not imo not even close

Feb 2009 CR170 dsg - I have been very pleased with it - no problems at all except ones associated with the Skoda electrical kit for Skoda detachable towbar and only rectified by new wiring loom for car - a problem well known by Skoda owners who tow and suffered the UK dealership recall.. I note you have specified something for a tow bar and if you tow a caravan beware to check that the loom supplied enables split charging - a special UK loom is required as this is usually not undertaken on the continent. Otherwise the van battery and fridge will not work whilst towing. regards Brian

Janis Joplin didn't make a song about the Skoda. If this doesn't bother you, than you will love the car.

My 2010 Superb Estate CR170 DSG with leather, Columbus, Sound, etc has not given me any problems at all.

I really think the extra sound system is well worth the money if you can make the change

As said on previous replies by other members - when you have a forum and discussions around said vehicles there's always a possibility niggles are preceived as major manufacturing problems.

Let's face it cars are mass produced for the likes of you and me and there are likely to be problems with them all so we have to try and work out what we want from a car and look at those manufacturers who provide a quality product with good after sales service.

Look no further than Skoda! The JD Power results speak for themselves - any recommendation by word of mouth is the best accolation any product would wish for.

We've had numerous Skodas in the past, from Fabia, Roomster, Octavia and Superb, all with different engines and specs and barring very minor warranty issues (with an easy solution I may add) all vehicles only went back to the dealer for servicing.

My dealer contact from Scotland to 'the south' have all been very positive and my local dealers are very helpful and personable, suprisingly unlike the VW, Audi and Seat counter parts.

Answer this..........Do I want a quality car with good spec for less money and the dealers to listen to me? If the answer is 'yes' then go for Skoda. If you prefer the superficial product of the like of Mercedes - yes they look amazing but they spend more time in the dealer's garage - then go for the Merc.

It's all about image - and Skoda make good looking cars now - don't let your heart rule your head! Nuff said? ;)

Got mine on 1st Sept. Son was round in a flash to give it a whirl.

Previous week-end he'd driven from E Yorks to Scotland in an E class. I don't know how old it was.

His words were - this (the Skoda) is the better car and if he had the opportunity to choose one or the other he'd go for the Superb.

Good enough for me.

I love it, and my friends are truly amazed when they see it in the flesh.

No problems with mine, loving every mile I drive. 26K miles on and no problems to report.

Actually i have had significantly more trouble with my Superb than I had with my Mercedes in the first 2 years, the Merc went in once for a service and had no faults , my Superb had been back 4 times for faults or recalls NOT including service visits !!

I have to say my ownership with my E class ended badly (Rust) but i wasnt left out of pocket even after 7 years of ownership you can accuse Mercedes of a lot of things but superficial products?? I'm not so sure the Superb will stand up to the miles and years anywhere near as well as the Merc did

My Superb has had

Boot badge replaced due to corrosion

Recall on the front fogs

Recall on the boot lock mechanism

Numerous alarm faults (still going on despite 4 visits now )

Not a great deal i know and i'm not slating the car its been very good but its certainly not perfect , i would recommend one to anyone but i'm not a fan boy who can only look at it through rose tinted glasses

So far my Skoda experience has been very good. My 170 Combi Elegance is very much like my old 03 V70...except quieter, more economica, more spacious, better quality and better specced! Far better than the 3 series I've had on loan for the last 6 months but probably not quite as good as an E classs but then again it's much cheaper than an E class - 95% as good but 66% of the price. Also - it's not an Audi/BMW/Merc and for me (and many others) thats a big plus point

I traded in my 2005 c320cdi estate for my superb.my ratings for both cars out of ten would be Mercedes 5 superb 9 the superb is better in every department .

best car i have owned in the past 40 years.bi

I hired a new E-class (E200 CDI Blueifficiency) for a week in March, before I ordered my Superb (170bhp TDI) the following month. The interior of the Merc seemed more solid (better quality leather, more comfortable seats, more resounding thud on doors, slighly better noise insulation) and the diesel engine was also quieter. However, it seemed less spacious, had a more minimal spec, the engine didn't seem as responsive, and the ride was no smoother or more refined (other than marginally quieter).

What put me off the Merc was more arrogant dealerships, less customer friendly, less customer satisfaction (from published survey results), and the massive price difference (>£10k).

I definitely felt more regal in the Merc, but I feel more comfortable overall in the Superb, and I am more than happy with my choice thus far.

But when you drive your new superb you wont keep seeing another car like yours, but you will see Merck's-BMW and the like this makes your car seem special not common like the rest.BILL

Janis Joplin didn't make a song about the Skoda.

Oh lord won't you buy me a Skoda Superb.

My friends all drive porsches, I must keep my nerve.

Worked hard all my lifetime, try not to disturb.

So oh lord won't you buy me a Skoda Superb

There, thats fixed that...

Nice one! send it to Skoda to be used as their official anthem :)B)

Great lyrics, but can you sing?

Great lyrics, but can you sing?

Only when drunk or stoned..That said Bob Dylan made a career outta sounding like that :giggle:

All I can say is don't worry, had mine for over a year and apart from 2 headlight bulbs I have has no issues. now done 23k miles and I still can't believe how good it is

I had an E Class Estate 220 CDI Elegance and nothing but woe. The worst of all being complete ECU failure on two occasions which left me within seconds and at speed with no steering or brakes.

I do not for one minute believe that Mercedes below the S Class level produces cars of excellence as they used to.

Between the 3 most "common" German premium brands (having owned a raft of them all) experience tells me that BMW builds the better and longer lasting cars up to the 6 series but not beyond.

Not having never driven let alone owned one I can't comment fully on the Superb but from a cursory look at the dealers the car certainly impresses with the apparent quality of it's build. It's superior to VW and about on par with the A6 but no more.

When you consider the cost of a fully kitted out Elegance model - with every extra you can throw at it, it's a bargain and it will be just as dependable as the Mercedes E Class.
