Bad dealer experience - opinions needed

As I said to Phil, I'll be more than happy to post here that everything has been sorted and I'm satisfied with what's been done. But I won't be doing that until it has, and I am. Saying it'll be sorted, and confirming everything has been sorted, are two entirely different things. I've heard the first (more than once), I'm still waiting to hear the second. It's 4 weeks ago today that I dropped the car off for another shot at the repairs...

Get your car out of their mate. It will never be sorted to your satisfaction. These guys are useless.

How many more chances are you going to give 'em ?

I mean the guy promised to call you personally and then did'nt !! What does that tell you ? They are probably laughing their ar$es off at you expense and thinking what a to$$er !

Give citizens advice a call and get your car out of that hole before it's tooooo laaaaaaattttteeee !!

Had a call from Phil this afternoon. Apparently the aftermarket headunit was causing the problem with the cluster - something to do with the bus system cocking up because the standard headunit wasn't connected. They reconnected the standard deck, coded the unit, it worked first time. They then refitted the aftermarket unit. It was an Alpine deck, don't know if this makes any difference  worth bearing in mind if anybody else needs to change their cluster and has an aftermarket stereo...

Anyway, that's sorted, all the other faults are now sorted, the car still needs a valet and there's one or two other minor points to sort out about replacing the stuff that was stolen, but other than that it's all fixed now. He's said he will sort the remaining items out tomorrow and will call tomorrow to arrange delivery of the car later this week :woot:

He's also said that from now on, they are bringing all of their vRS's inside the secure compound at night, and if any customers' cars have aftermarket stereos they are checking to make sure the faceplates have been removed when the cars are left. Sound ideas, methinks.

So, hopefully will have the car back this week, and will be able to put the whole saga to bed. Will be glad to see the back of it, I can tell you :shakehead:

I had similar delay problems with them with the problematic 1.4 16v.

At one point they delayed giving it back to me for 24 hours because it was raining!

They wanted to check the waterproofing on a wiring loom repair was OK but I had to chase them as to why I couldn't have it back on the day it was promised.

All sorted now, Phil phoned me again today, on valeting the car they noticed that the rear driver's side door card had been scratched, and there was a small tear on the rear seat, so both were replaced and the seat Supagarded again like the rest of the car. He's going to deliver it back to me on Friday and fingers crossed, all will be well in the world once more... :)

I'm happy to say that Phil was good to his word and delivered the car to my work in person yesterday morning

AND that Vindis have fixed everything they were supposed to

There is still a BUT though...

They used an independent stereo fitter to replace the gear that was stolen, and I'm not too chuffed with his work... there was an electrical intereference coming over the stereo which Phil had already noticed on the way down, and before he left yesterday he agreed to get it back in at the stereo fitters to have another look at it next weekend. After he left, I noticed that the stereo didn't appear to be fully clipped into the dash - lo and behold, a slight pull on it and out it popped, ISO cage and all!!! The teeth on the cage that should hold the deck in place hadn't been clipped into the dash properly, so it was loose. The fitter didn't leave the release keys for the stereo in the car so I can't fix this myself. Also, I noticed that some of the unused wires on the stereo loom had been left bare - this was what was causing the noise over the stereo, they must have been earthing out somewhere. The stereo that was taken had an in-line aerial amplifier attached, the replacement doesn't so the reception is naff. The door cards were off to fit some component speakers and on both sides, the screwdriver marks can be seen if you look carefully - he didn't put tape around the blade to prevent it from marking before prying the trims off - and on the drivers door, the return spring on the door handle has been incorrectly fitted if fitted at all, an the handle is not springing back into place after you pull on it. Also, despite fitting component speakers, he kept the alpine tweeters and used the standard ones because the alpines wouldn't fit inside the door trims. Fair enough, but just cos they wouldn't fit doesn't mean I wouldn't want to hold onto them myself in case the standard ones pop. Oh yeah, the mirror adjuster plug has been fitted back to front too so when you switch it to left, it adjusts the right mirror, and vice versa...

But at least I have my Furby back!

All told, I'm pretty satisfied with what Vindis have done now - none of the above faults were caused by them, they were caused by the fitter they hired. But more to the point, I can fix all of the above things - once I get the release keys for the stereo. So I think that's what I'll do - this other guy is clearly not very careful and considerate in his work, and I am, so since I'm capable of doing all of these things myself, I'll do that I think - only way to be 100% sure it's done properly.

Oh, and hopefully I can arrange for the gear lever rattle fix to be sorted while I'm up there...

I take it you won't be going back to Vindis then ? :)

Steve

So Vindis came good in the end and will hopefully have learned a PR lesson or 2 in the process.

Well, not yet... still got to get the gearbox rattle sorted... And of course the above troubles with the stereo fitter... :rubchin:

At least Vindis have put there side right, a shame the guy they have hired was not as carefull.

Good to see they're making efforts in the right direction, and someone keeping their word is excellent to see as well :)
