OK, I give in.....

..... how do I change the headlamp bulbs on a Fabia VRs??

This probably sounds a really stupid question, and I am actually fairly competent with a spanner!!

I had a quick look tonight but I was running out of light. There doesn't appear to be a great deal of room around there.

Is there a top tip, a clever and easy way to do it?

Yea, smash the lense with a large mallet and your in!

Wouldn't mind knowing myself actually...thinking of getting a couple of bright bulbs myself.

Its fiddly.. especially on the passenger side with the battery cover in the way. access to the lights is behind a plastic cover on the back of the headlamp unit.. i suggest you have a poke round on the driver side first :)

Plastic lenses mate try cutting a hole with a jigsaw

Er... DON'T ask Jason (Devonutopia) or me to do it. That's asking for trouble....

You don't have xenons do you?

If you do, then there's even less space. Oh, and be careful, the bulb types mentioned in the manual are wrong as I found out after spending

I'm not sure I can get my fat little fingers in that space!!

I looked at taking the headlight out - would that be easier?

On the passenger side I believe it's easiest if you remove the bettery and battery box first, plenty of access room then. Driver's side is fiddly but cab ne done with everything in place, even with xenons. Just expect to lose some skin from your knuckles!!! :D

If you want to take the bumper off, then yes. You can remove the 3 screws and move the headlamp about to get a bit more space, but they are not too bad to get to once you know what you are doing. If you have Xenons then they are a total nightmare.

I had a bulb blow when I was down south the other weekend. Had to change a dipped bulb in Halfords car park in the dark and p155ing rain. Got the scars to prove it!!.

The covers on the back of my light were plastic and one of the spring loaded clips bought it in the struggle so take care!!

My Fabia's not a vRS, but reploacing bulbs on the passenger side is also very tight on my PD100 engine.

One top tip I found (think it may even be mentioned in the manual)- on mine there's a rectangular (?) plastic cover on the side of the battery nearest the headlight. This cover is easy to remove and gives you some valuable extra mm (without needing to do anything complex like remove the battery itself).

It's only a thin plastic cover but surprising how much easier it makes the job.

You have to take it off to be able to get it out (I've tried it :( )

The only difference in the amount of pain you get/difficulty of bulb changing is if you have the xenon headlamps, or a diesel. As the diesel has the filter right by the o/s headlamp it makes it more difficult than petrol.

Although this is nothing compared to the pain in the backside it is to change either the bulb, or lens for the foglight of the Fabia vRS. Scratches, cuts and bruises await those who don't want to take off the bumper to give better access.

Had the misfortune of having to remove a rear light cluster on the The Missuss's Furby t'other day. Brake light bulb had fallen out of the holder and was merrily rattling around inside the light cluster.

Interior trim panels off etc. It wasn't pretty.

Well - Mission complete!!

Don't know what all the fuss was about - When I looked in the daylight it was much easier than I expected. Removing that small batter cover is essential though.

Thanks for all your advice.

If ur wanting some cheaper bulbs - Halfrauds have got the 50% brighter Xenon gas filled ones on BOGOF at the moment.
