No More Skoda UK Police Cars

Featured Replies

VW is still on the list, so I take that to mean VAG.

im guessing warwickshire police dont know abou this

becuase the day i picked up me new black VRS they were picking up an unmarked hatchback and a estate, as i joked to the copper about swapping so i could have his nice blue lights ...

Looks like Lincs police got in just in time.

Seen a couple of 60 plate Octavias yesterday racing to somewhere.

saving money by dropping Skoda but using Audi :smirk: not sure how that is the cheaper option

The cost of the vehicle is basically irrelevant.

When you think that the staffing costs to provide 6 officers (2 to a crew, 3 shifts) to man the car over 3 years probably runs to something around 300 to 500k the cost of the car is just a drop in the ocean.

What a shame then that the NPIA has no power to mandate to Police forces that they use the national procurement framework, its just recommended as best practice that they do

I don't know how they can look past the Octy vRS and Superb 3.6 for motorway patrol cars given the practicality, performance and value for money. I think it is absurd to spend 35k + on a 5 series touring when you could buy 2 Octy vRS's for the same money.

The plod dont pay anywhere near the RRP for their cars. For example they get their T5's for just over 15K each. Reckon it may be a little more for the Beemers. Remember that the cars will be basic spec and will be bought in bulk.

That's irrelevant, it's all relative. On that basis a vRS will be ~10k

Yup, sounds about the right price for them.

not necessarily, its all to do with the negotiated price for the vehicle with maintenance/repair

As far as I know, don't police forces repair their own cars?

I know Staffordshire used to.

They do i used to work at the Park Lane Station in Birmingham some yrs ago.....

I have just bought a 09 plate ex octavia vrs and it aint the basic spec at all. Only thing it has is the Bolero unit instead of the columbus and that was an ex dog unit. I also got pulled over by a 5 series beemer the other day and the car was fully loaded with sports leather seats, tv with sat nav and copper did mention when i commented on how nice the car was that just about every extra had been added except the 19 inch alloys (due to the ride and tire cost).

I agree that most the local plod cars (focus, astra etc.) will be pretty basic models but the motorway and response cars aint.

But the purchase price of the car really doesn't matter.

Paying the people who man the car costs many, many, times more.

Cars sourced through the Emergency Service purchase scheme are normal specification, never 'basic'. Mine is just such a vRS, around £13k. VAG is on the list still, so that means any VAG car, they all come from the same import and distribution point, just with different 'manufacturer's' names as contacts. I have seen SEAT, VW and Audi cars with registrations within a few letters of mine.

Whats dictated by the government is no reflection on what vehicles the Police select for their fleet.

Its all down to costings and departmental preference.

GMP absolutely love the Skoda Octavia vRS for their TVCU. (Tactical Vehicle Crime Unit)

Its here for a while. Especially as you get so much more for your money than any VW or AUDI.

These motoring journalists talk absolute sh!te. But it sells magazines I guess.

Keep checking those mirror ladies and gents. Trust me. B)

We have a black unmarked Leon , that cruises the M20, & he taunts the boy racers / under 30's in their performace / modded cars then after a couple of miles , ignites the blue lights & then either has a quite word or issues ticket, depending on perceived driver ability, he tends to leaves the over 30's alone.

Kent has lots of Octavia estates scattered across the county, & they are on 59 & 60 plates.

Is that not entrapment ?

Is that not entrapment ?

No - the "tauntee" could as easily move out of the way of the police car and let it go on it's way. If they rise to the bait they would've done so if the car was driven by a peer - if someone has the inclination to accept "challenges" to race on public roads then probably best that they are getting pulled over for a quiet word.

OOhh!! Does that mean the wait for building the cars will get shorter?:giggle:

They probably also look at depreciation and other marques will hold their value better. This is the main reason they stopped uisng white cars years ago - back then no one wanted them hence they went for silver.

All things told the VRS isn't that big and isn't that quick plus will be high on fuel.

Plus a 335d under cover is a bit more discrete than a vRS
