Screen wash fluid

... cause a leak in to the rear section of the car.

I've got this now and it's because the pipe to the rear washer has come off (again). A bit of a common fault from what I gather. More trim removal at the weekend.

I use Holts All seasons screenwash and have done for a few years in my last car with fan washers.

I just use the pink pre-mixed stuff from halfords. Works great and not had it freeze in the jets so far. (-4 is the worst ive seen this year)

And it smells nice :)

I've used Car Plan screenwash (ridiculously low prices for a 5-litre jack at my local Woolworths) for ages, now.

It seems to do the trick - cleans the screen, low foam, even works in the headlamp washers. And it has that nice "hospital" smell (Nurse! plump my pillows, please!) ;)

I've been using the Halfords stuff (with the fluorescent green/yellow colour) for ages in my Fabia Comfort. Also add a squirt of Rain-X washer additive which seems to help repel rain a bit.

Not had any problems so far in 3 years - but I just read the stuff above about "fan" washers. Do I have these on a Fabia Comfort? Should I stop using the Halfords + Rain X combination?

Fan washers are fitted to all recent (2001 on?) Skodas (and all VAG cars). Don't know about Rain X additive, but I do know that the Rain X stuff they sell to save using the wipers is absolute garbage causing massive streaking on the screen.

I now use the Skoda stuff thats specific for fan jets because before that we used to get premature evaporation of the fluid resulting in streaky and lined sweeps. Now its perfect.

If your dealer is a bit distant, do as I do.....buy a dozen bottles at a time, they even do a nice price for "bulk" orders.

ps...my 98 Octy estate had fan jets then.

how do you adjust the fan? one of mine is doing a good job of cleaning the car behind!

They're fixed into the scuttle panel. One common cause of them apparently being out of adjustment is if the panel is not properly seated along the windscreen edge. Go along the edge pressing the panel down with the flat of your hand. If it clicks, it was improperly seated - see if the washers are any more accurate now...
