I hope its not too bad bud, keep us updated. I hate the "broken car" feeling :(

Matt

Well. Think off all my posts on here have been pretty much asking how to fix something!

Looking at a possible 2k+ bill after 1 month of ownership.

Bought the car knowing it needed a new steering rack.

MOT is due in 2 weeks and for that i need: 2 new tires, disks + pads all around + steering rack

The oil service light also came on so i ended up paying JKM to do that.

At this point, it looks okay.

Untill last week, when it started not boosting properly which the garage said was a fueling fault and a fuel change and some additive would sort it out.

2 weeks after my oil service change from JKM, the red oil light flashes. So i check the dipstick... no oil. I fill her up. Now tonight, cuts out 7 times, trouble starting and once again, the red light, no oil.

Thanks JKM!

After looking at at my filler cap what do i see? Creamy substance! Suspect headgasket (we all know its a £600+ job)

Also the happening of my missing oil is also suspect to a faulty turbo and which the oil has been running into my boost pipes which may have caused alot of engine damage.

I dont know about you.

But wheres my luck emoticon-0149-no.gif

Anything to keep as a positive to make me keep the fabia?

YOU bought a car with just four weeks MOT ?

Then notice it needs new tyres !

I know you can not put an old head on young shoulders, but alarm bells should have sounded,

Why did they NOT MOT it and ask a better price?

A Because it needed LOTS of work, and work is EXPENSIVE, not so much the parts but the Labour costs

I do have every sympathy for you, as when I was young I did exactly the same, and this week infact my young nephew has done the same because he knows best

He bought a BMW, cheap as chips, he pays monthly for the extortionate insurance, found he needed three new tyres, they are within the limits but go down every three days, and his first long run of 50 miles cost £120 for a tow home to Dad

His second run he scaleded his face removing the expansion tank cap as the car stopped and it showed high temperature alert

Now Dad and Uncle have settled the immediate bill twice what the car cost,he still thinks a basic Skoda is crap

Hope you get it all sorted and not to costly mate

Regards National

matt I know how you feel! Especially if you love your car, it feels almost like you have split up with a partner! That kinda wake up thinking about it feeling.

Or am I just that sad?

National I am probably of your nephews age. I have a friend who has done the same with a BMW aswell, old 318 or 316 I bet ;) it amazes me I know people who drive cars that can't select gears etc. It's shocking.

Onwards n upwards, don't be negative craig!

I understand where your coming from national :)

I brought the car knowing i would have to spend the required £700 or so that i saved off the price...

I noticed the tires etc, theyre not MOT failable, just not snow safe IMO

I over exagerated this thread at the time. But was angry at spending £4k on a car that had more problems than my old saxo!

I realise its just one of those things. Sometimes you get a duff car! Allways seems fine on the day.

On the plus side, 10k miles ago it had timing belt and water pump change so that saves me a few bob.

I know what you mean haha. Waking up and thinking about it lol. Then having to bum lifts around

The way i look at it... i will know what work has been done, i will know i have sorted out the issues and i can be (i hope) looking towards 12 months of reliability!

Will update this again tomorrow when i hear from garage about the extent of the garage...

Been told the loss of oil is either:

- The oil breather pipe losing oil somehow

- Or the turbo gone so the oil is flowing into the boost pipes!

Time will tell :)

I do still reckon if you're losing oil that quickly and you have no boost, you likely have a blown turbo. Mine has no under tray, so I could easily see excessive oil dripping from the IC boost pipe (not that I needed to... the bang and awful screech was enough to let me know the turbo had caved!). If you have the under tray on it might not be quite so obvious I guess!

Either way I am curious to know. The garage get back to you today I take it?

I am still boosting but hardly is more like it. Can feel it come onto boost at like 2k ish and judders.

Garage is towing it at 12.30 and having to take the old steering rack out, see which one it is and then get the new one ordered.

So is going to be in a for a few days

And theres never been anysign of oil on the undertray or floor.

The lower IC pipe is slightly wobbly howrver, not sure if thats normal.

Ill get them to take the intercooler pipes off and check, will also get them to check the oil breather.

Anything else worth mentioning?

EDIT: if the turbo has gone, they said they can get a pd150 one for me off someone called midland turbos i beleive.

Off she goes :'(

DSC00072-1.jpg

Garage said they will check out the oil first since its more of a problem...

Checked the oil cap and there was no more creamy stuff.. whether thats because of the lack of oil in there anyways :)

I thought it had to overheat for the headgasket anyway?

Been also told it could be the pistonrings...

I am more shocked at the little amount of snow!

Are they starting work today?

Im not the best with my grammer but this really gets on my tits!!!!

Think i brought a bad'un

You Bought a Bad'un

Brought = Takeing something somewhere, like the guys in the garage will say 'you brought this into us with these problems'

Bought = To purchase something, the exchange of goods or services for cash or credit.

Im sorry but this has come up a lot recently and i dont know where it has come from, people who i know, who know the correct way round are doing this too! What has happenind?

Update.

Garage rang and said the worst.

Said the fuel filter was gone completely. Looked fully black and said someone may have tampered with the fuel.

There draining the lot and putting new filter in to try and get running. Said damage could be done to injectors.

Next they tell me this:

filter.jpg

This is my oil filter.

Does this look 2 weeks old?

...

Turbo seals have also gone maybe which is where the oil is going as its in the intercooler pipes...

Oh and this is what came out of the fuel filter...

Looks like a good cup of coffee.

If the turbo needs rebuilding isnt it worth hybrid time? ;)

But tbh. If the injectors are gone aswel... sell up >.<

If you can get a complete engine nice and cheap....

If you can get a complete engine nice and cheap....

I think ive lost my faith tbh.

Only had it a month. Getting a new engine after a month has really put a downer on it...

Mmm :)

thats a bit defetist.

anyway you would get how much for it? spares or repares?

Just fix it and enjoy it. anyway if you sell it and get another whats to say thats not going to be riddled with problems....... fix these and you know there done!

As I said blt engine on eBay . . . I would just accept and get it fixed. What can you sell the car for? Nothing.

Even if it costs 2k to fix it will still be less than buying one a good one. My mates is a 30k 03 plate and that cost him 6000£ about 3 months ago. I would just get it fixed and enjoy honestly. With cars there is no such thing as a bargin really unless it's though a good friend/family

Well, its all seeing how it is... if it seems fine after these small changes, it appears the injectors are okay.

I might end up replacing the turbo with a pd150... see how it all goes first.

just the its a little sour :giggle:

If you bought another car, you`d be at square one again. Where as if you sort this one, you`ll know what has been done, and what`ll need replacing in the coming weeks/months/years. If it comes to it, a new engine could be dropped in, and off you go, flog the parts from the old one to get some cash back.

Title edited to bought now :D

And yeah i know. Emailed some turbo companies but yet to see if it deifnaltly needs one.

No work on car today since the snow :'( Cant blame them though!

Am going to start taking a more hands on approach aswell to the car.

Good man ;) if the injectors are ok then that's a massive relief!

Sure is :)

Is there away to check them?

I dont fancy having issues few months down the line.

Vagcom?

Wouldn't have a clue mate but I know it's pricey! If they are fine leave them though, never really hear of them being much problem
