This has been mentioned a number of times so maybe a search would give you some more detail. Basically you have to pivot the centre chair on its little legs as per the manual instructions - if you do this it wont fail the rear of the centre console.

cheers, I will have to have a look in daylight ,never been one to admit defeat and "read" the book...:-)

Mmm, interesting , I must RTFM! That's been something that has intrigued me also.

I've saved this below from one of the countless other threads on this subject for when I do it the first time. Thanks to whoever said it (as I can't remember!!!):

FOLDING THE MIDDLE SEAT

You have to do the first 'fold' and then actually unclip it from its mounting rail using the two little levers underneath. Now lift it up and you'll see it has two rubber 'feet' on the bottom like stubby little legs.

These will hold it in a a vertical position while you use the retractable bungee hook that comes out the 'top' of the folded seat to secure the top of it to, say, the front passenger head rest. This is the only way, barring of course removing all the back seats completely, that you can fold up all three rear seats completely and is in practice really easy- once I had been shown how to do it.

It is annoying and I don't like unclipping it as that is not ideal either. To stop it falling down remember to use the extendable plastic hook on the seat and clip it on to the headrest of the front passenger seat. That at least stops the seat from bouncing back.

Mmm, thanks for all the replies, does however sound like a bit of a design ****-up, thankfully it will be a very rare problem and in no way spoils a brilliant car :-)

I quite agree. I hope that when Skoda do a revamp, as mfrs do every few years with a model, it is something that they look at as it really is poor.

Its only a problem on the models with the central box between the seats, apparently works fine in the base models

If you have a look in the manual page 75 you'll find this information "Fold the middle rear seat backrest forwards in the same way, then pull once more

on the lever ⇒ page 74, fig. 68 and press the seat backrest downwards until it is

heard to lock into a lower position."

Once the backrest has been compressed in this manner it folds like the other seats even with the centre box in position. There's no need to unclip the seat and indeed I would suggest it's potentially dangerous to have the seat unsecured in case of accident . Hope this helps.

nightowl, i had the same problem but, being a man and an engineer, i persisted without reading the manual.

came up with the same solution as microlight.

when you fold the middle seatback down it feels like it has gone all the way but there is still a small angle between it and the seat cushion.

if you push the lever and press down on the seat back, it will fold right down so it is parallel with the seat cushion.

tip the whole thing forward and it stays put without the bungy strap.

( wondered what those bungies were for?)

Must admit @20:45 in the pitch black I was lucky to find the levers let alone the bungy cords, never mind when I get fed up of driving the car I might have another look in the back :-),

I think they are starting to notice that the company vito has gone missing, crap in the snow anyway, thats my excuse...:-)

Unfortunately, with a jumbo box, the centre seat still doesn't tip up vertically like the others do, so it still encroaches into the load area. Is it different with cloth seats, as on my SM with leather, the centre head rest has to be removed to persuade the seat back to lower fully onto the seat base & then tip? I note that the handbook also warns about not leaving the seat back folded down for long periods as the seat belt buckles may mark leather seats if you do. And, yes I can believe that.

I still maintain that the whole centre seat arrangement is a piece of poor design. I really cant see why the jumbo box couldn't have a different profile, or indeed be mounted further forward, to allow the centre seat to fold properly. I guess no car is perfect, not even a Snow Monster, but it does seem the sort of thing that should have been sorted out before the car went into production (just like the dim boot light!).

you're right, speedsport, got to remove the head restraint.

it probably is easier to fold it completely flat with cloth rather than leather as i suppose the latter is thicker?

the solution would be to make the middle seat slide back like the other 2

skoda design team... are you listening?

I took the middle seat out completely. It is now in my study.

Nothing now bashes or thumps or needs bungees or gets in the way or annoys or irritates or needs unclipping or crashes or bounces back.

Nothing disturbs my level-headed-ness now, nor raises the "very annoyed" level of blood pressure.

Pure chill.

I must admit that I was thinking of doing that as well.

Can you see into the 'boot' through the gap between the seats? or does the sunset glass prevent prying eyes from seeing what is in the boot?

Erm, questions questions....

Yes and no - or is it no and yes, or just maybe?

But seriously, folks! You cannot "see" into the boot. And "Yes" sunset glass works. It does wot-u-want.

In the 1960s after an evening out in North London, one mate in his dads Cortina GT offered to give some of us a lift. Five people on the back seat, :drunk: two on the passenger seat plus the driver. 11:30 at night, having just pulled away from the pub, a policeman steps into the road with his hand up. We stop, the driver winds down the window and quickly explains that he is "just" dropping us off "around the corner". The policeman slowly looked at us all jammed in the car and turned back to the driver, "No lights" he said, and sent us on our way! :whew:

Those were the days.

Apologies for the hijack
