Hids, Xenons or Bosch Pure LIght

Another thing to consider now with HID kits is the new MOT regulations coming in next month, aftermarket HID kits if fitted to a car without the required kit will be an instant fail. This is one of several changes coming in next month, and I guess the one that will hit people the most.

so what is the 'required kit' that you need if you have aftermarket hids fitted ?

I spoke to my mechanic - who is a qualified MOTer - yesterday about this, his reply went something like this "they are always introducing new regulations into the standard MOT test, but it is very hard to police it, and for what its worth, I haven't heard about this being introduced!" In the same conversation he also said he would adjust the alignment when I fit my HID kit!

1) Self levelling headlights

2) Headlight wash

Two extremely cost prohibitive retro-fits.

But, as a lot of others have mentioned I can't see this being rigorously enforced for some time yet, even if new standards do arrive soon.

I have been taking my old Peugeot 306 to the same garage for its MOT for the last 7 years. Not once have they physically checked headlight alignment using the specialist equipment. A quick look to confirm the bulbs work is as technical as it’s ever got!

Thats near enough what my mechanic mate said, he's a mot tester as well.

Anyway, i am having them fitted tomorrow with led sidelights as well, so hopefully i will be able to see where i am going when its dark. B)

Well my MOT is due in March. I have had a HID kit now for 3yrs. It passed the first MOT last year no problem as i'd had them aligned correctly by the garage when i installed them.

As has been pointed out if they say it is an instant fail i'll go in with a set of H7 bulbs fitted for the test and then re-fit the HID kit when i get home. It's is literally a 5 minute swap.

Until it is written in Black & White from VOSA ( i haven't read all the links but have seen most of them elsewhere so apologies if someone has linked VOSA) then i wouldn't pay any attention to them. Especially Wikipedia! There is more incorrect information on that site than correct information!!!

If thet are aligned correctlty, then it will pass

Dont worry

Ive no doubt it will. I always made a point when installing them to have them aligned properly.

Never been flashed etc either.
