Looks like the same principle but enclosed so should be more robust.

Indeed it does, although I should point out that my fairy liquid comments were a joke, before anyone tries it!

There's no need to ask for it, Jon. It's awarded to you automatically at the close of each day's posts.

BTW, nice bit of info about MAFs. :)

You're welcome :D

Nick' date=' the unit we have is a Bosch HFM5 hot-film air-mass meter. If you'd like a diagram of it, see below. Picture taken from "ME-Motronic engine management technical instruction manual, 1999 edition" :D

There is an explanation of how to clean a MAF in Sort Compact Racing's link here. This used to work straight from our Links section but you may well have to register to view it as I have just done.

What you need are some pictures.

The Mass Airflow Sensor is labelled "MAS" at the bottom left here' date=' and the DV is labelled "BOV" (Blow Off Valve - which isn't strictly accurate):-

The air box is on the right of this cutaway; the turbo is hidden behind the block, and the intercooler is on the left.

Any chance someone has a copy of these pictures as they don't seem to be available anymore...?

Cheers,

Gerrard
