Cold Air Intakes, And Induction Kits Etc

Featured Replies

Are there any known benefits to using the above, and more importantly are there any unwanted side effects, ie MAF failure etc?

Cheers

D.

Some are meant to induce MAF failure, some don't, similar to many posts on many VAG boards about air box changes...there wasa dog's B's one from the states on vortex a long time ago, the US golf guys went nutz over it. It was blue. It's all I can recall of it; made a lasting impression I guess.

Unwanted side effects, none I'd care about.

Quite tempted by jabbasports offering except for the price for the effect, wasn't born in Scotland for nothing!

I'll search on Blue ones then LOL:D

The standard filter is actually very efficient. Power hike is only max of 4 bhp, real gain is in induction noise. Then there's the cost.....

Hence I haven't changed mine.

I think you run the risk of the MAF going mental + breaking if you dont use a dry kit, from what I understand of reading various VW forums?

Jabbas dry kit is well expensive at over 200 squids.

I was having a read up on Vortex, quite a few of those guys seem to like the airbox mod. Might try that first......

Wonders away plotting new develoments ;)

He's at it again. ;)

I talked this through with a few people before i decided on the neuspeed kit.

avoid ramair - heavily oiled - messes with the maf...

kn ok but no shield - the neuspeed is a k/n filter with extra heat shied.

std box is restrictive

std box with new element = better but no noise

cone = noise but sucks warm air.

cone + heat shied should be best combo if you like noise.

i have the latter but im also ducting more cold air up from the bumper.

It looks like you can port out the standard box and provide a better intake ducting too, and that seems fairly effective.

I like the look of the 20VT Cleanair kit, although it seems their customer service rep sucks, however I'll take my chances and try and get one in.

Failing that, the design board will be coming out LOL:)

Need a development/test motor? :D

I did raise question about air box mods a while back. But the general concensus was to leave the standard air in place? However, if one becomes available that doesn't increase the chance of MAF failure and isn't too expensive then I maybe tempted.

the maf problem should only occur with a heavily oiled filter like a ram air....

Tis a rock and a hard place.....

Heavily oiled filter - risks oil getting to and destroying MAF...

Filter that allows more through than standard - risk more particle damage to MAF...

I'm sticking with the standard - would like more noise but not risking the MAF for it - oh, but change it every 20k instead of the 40k skoda reccomend, and clean it every now and then.

Price of a new MAF?

MY99/00 Imprezas came with poor quality MAF's. previously proven induction kits and filters were causing all sorts of problems. I guess Bosch upgraded on the Subaru and fobbed off the poor quality MAFs to VAG:o
