ENGINE BAY COLOUR ?

Featured Replies

Checked Kevin's heart (engine bay) out yesterday. All nicely resplendent in Tangerine metallic.

Also to mention I do have sound deadening to the underside of the bonnet; CR140 engine. Perhaps its the TSI engines that don't.

Same with the Octy - no under bonnet sound deadening on my TSi, just empty clips. Appears only the 'louder' oil burners get and need it. Ah, TSi refinement. :giggle:

Sound deadening panel is model specific, rather than engine specific.... or at least it was last year! My 1.8TSi Elegance has it fitted as standard.

I recall there's more than one posting on here somewhere showing how to retro-fit the panel, and how easy it is!

Noe, I would be interested in fitting a rubber seal along the front edge of the slam panel sto stop all the crud splashing over my once clean engine! Is/was there one available for the SM?

My 1.8 TSi Ambition had no bonnet insulation fitted when I got it, I had to order it afterward.

Mine is aqua blue and left the factory Feb last year and its aqua blue, looks just like the body work but slightly duller.

I think there is a post somewhere quicte a long time ago together with stubby arial and permanent TomTom fixture.

I had my bonnet insulation fitted in Dec 10 and it cost 26 quid from dealer, comes with clips.

Although it can be retro fitted to the 1.2 TSi, why do Skoda choose to omit it in the first place on that particular engine - is it so refined and deemed unecessary or is it a case of cost cutting ?

I find the 1.2 very quiet, the main source of noise is tyre roar on the rougher paving on Motorway.

The bonnet insulation doesn't make it any quieter but I notice it makes the engine heat up quicker.

Am I not right in thinking that primer doesn't really give the metal the same protection against rust that a proper paint job gives?

But been to dealer and looked at there stock ,

Muscovado exterior matt black engine bay

Postman pat red exterior matt red engine bay

I am assuming that the Kvasiny plant follows the standard automotive painting schedule:

1. E-coat, complete submersion of the body shell, usually some mucky yellowish color.

2. Primer coat, usually a grey color, water borne or solvent borne.

3. Two color coats, wet on wet withonly a flash-off tunnel between the two coats, usually water borne.

4. Clearcoat, followed by tunnel drying. The clear coat can be solvent borne, powder coat or less commonly, waterborne.

The main rust protection is the E-coat. The rest are for protection of the E-coat and for appearances sake. There is not much point in clearcoating interiors or engine/boot compartments.

Tangerine car and tangerine engine bay :)

muscovado car here and the under bonnet area is matt black including the underneath of the bonnet.

the boot shut area is muscovado but not laquered.
