My best MPG so far

Featured Replies

so you have fun 1% of the time and i have fun 100% of the time. I can do 0-60, 30-50, 30-70, 50-70 harsh accelerations as often as i want and not worry about my MPG going into the high 20's, early 30's.

With regards to company car taxation the monthly cost for the VRS DSG diesel of the L&K 1.8 DSG is £2 a month. I would more than make up that £2 a month in MPG in one journey to work.

There is 0.5 seconds difference in the 0-60 time which hardly puts yours in the fast accelerating bracket and mine in the slow accelerating bracket.

It is also quite interesting that you state that it does not have the ability to accelerate like the BMW 320 Efficient Dynamics...which again is only .5 of a second faster (but that is for the manual...i believe that the auto is 8.0 seconds which is exactly the same as mine).

If you are so convinced that your 1.8TSI is so much of a revelation and so much better than a diesel then put your money where your mouth is and do a 1/4 mile against me at GTI International! :p

I will try and be there,

Been told that may be sister-in-laws wedding day though there are 2 other option dates and I think the Goodwood Festival of speed is a couple of days later than this event as we have been invited to that too.

The 7 speed auto is the same 0-60mph, 0-100 kph as the manual I gather from Skoda ie 7.5 seconds for the former and 7.8 seconds for the later. The extra 20 Kgs weight of the DSG is offset by the quicker gearchanges.

My car is virtual still standard as I only got it in November but over the last 4K mile it is loosening up nicely. It is debadged and has the VRS spoiler on it but it is the 1.8 TSI honest, clearly as it has the 7 speed DSG.

Have you run you car before at Bruntingthorpe, Long Marston or Santa Pod? If so what time? I recall someone printed a list of Golf based cars quarter mile times going from around 13s or so and someone commented the the VRS diesel was around 16 to 16.5 second I seem to recall. SWMOs TSI VRS is around 15s dead I think so when we have a warmer day I will try so quarter miles against her but I would hope to crack under 16s.

Must dump the cra**y OE Brisgestone Potenza RE050s as they are traction rating A rather than AA so the move to Mich PS3s will be required.

Did 640 miles last week. Leeds-London-Bath-Leeds. 90% motorway miles. Mostly 70-75 mph and about 300 miles with aircon on at 20 degrees. Trip showed average of 63.2 mpg and brim to brim was 61.6 mpg. Used Shell Fuel Save diesel.

Twice a local motorway run (20 miles) at 60 mph returned about 72 mpg on trip meter (on one direction with a bit of down slope)

I have a feeling that the Tesco pump diddled me earlier.

How can you get 47 litres into a Fabia when I had about 2 litres left in the tank, when the tank is only 45L?

I'm into 1.8tsi territory at the moment camping in devon with roof box and 2 bikes on roof. I am averaging 39mpg!

its unfortunately not worth arguing with him. Think of the posts as just a bit of comedy and you'll be okay. That said I tried soooo hard not to reply, but got to page two and had to.

That's exactly what you need, tyres that grip and handle better for the whole 1% of the time you blat around. LMFAO !!!!!!!!

I will try and be there,

Sure you will.

My word people that worry about mpg and try to get xx mpg on each trip. I couldn't care less tbh about my mpg anymore I just drive and am enjoying going back to petrol last 5 cars were diesel and I had forgotten just how narrow the power band actually was.

I officially managed 591 miles on one tank of diesel , followed by 584 on next tank doing usual daily stuff from redcar to middlesbrough on A66 dual carriageway plus mixed town driving and 2 trips from redcar to Bradford down the A19, M1, M62. well pleased.emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gif

I am just about to get on a ferry in dover and I am going to drive to bulgaria which is about 1400 miles from dunkerque. I have just brimmed the tank and I am hoping to only fill up one more time. I have had my trip computer showing 700 miles left and I have driven 92 but the most I have had out of a tank is 640 and that is because I have to drive in london. I will be updating my fuelly during my trip if anybody is interested.

Darren

Just filled up in Austria 673miles with 5 miles to go on display and 58 liters of derv not going to make it to bulgaria on 2 tanks my sat nav says I have nearly 800 left to go, well tomorrow is another day ;)

And you have to pay for your fuel too, how annoying!

Devon is spelt with a capital D please, it is where I am from so I have a personnel interest.

I have to confirm unfortunately I am currently only doing about 40 mpg, lots of slow diesels holding up the traffic which have to then overtake.

Have a nice break in Devon with the other Grockles. These days I prefer West Wales both for the journey and the destination and only go "home" to Devon when the "Emmits" as my Cornish ancestors termed, (we emigrated to Devon a couple of generation ago), and Grockles are gone.

Agree with both points and it is actually the function of the smallish tank and mpg that more frustrates me, ie filling up 3 time a week as I do over a thousand miles a week many weeks. It is like the tortoise and the hare, a diesel might actually get there quicker than me as a have had to stop for fuel.

Mind you fuel at £1.50 scare a few ie £80 a fill up, fuel cards are a wonderful thing to have.

As to a powerband thing, yes it is a myth exploded.

Off topic but I reckon I got diddled by a Shell garage giving me some old rubbish instead of VPower on a recent trip. I was getting 33mpg at 70mph when I always get nearer 40. Not sure how common this is but I will certainly be looking out for it now and complaining.

@lol, can't believe you still think your car is quicker.

My time is in this months vw driver if you want to double check.

Posting on phone so struggle doing capital letters ;)

Not me but Skoda and car mags say the 1.8TSI/TFSI is about 8 to 10 % quicker accelerating than the diesel VRS.

I was pleased for you to see your time was good. If I did run mine down the strip I was glad to see the measuring did not include reaction time but started to measure from when you broke the first timing beam as I do think the DSGs have an intrinsic delay, unless you get the launch control right but I have too much mechanical sympathy to use that method I reckon.

Worth remembering the fastest car of the day was a modified 1.8T!

When the police start using (4 cylinder) diesels for pursuit work I might be persuaded.

Hope the weather is as good down there as it is here as it is toastie in the mid-20s.

:yawn - Very Boring now, manufacturers figures aren't real life figures. Simple fact is that I have a faster car until you can PROVE otherwise.

Crap start or not, as soon as you move you break the beam as they line you right up to it so however you start, as soon as you move the clock starts.

But if you say they have a delay then that only makes the manual CR even quicker

Last time i looked yours was neither modified, nor a 1.8T (old skool 1.8T).

Came back yesterday and managed 43MPG due to being less headwind.....figures (which i achieved fully (over!) loaded) which you can only dream of B):D

I wish the pair of you would give it a rest , stop argueing like kids and completely hijacking someone else's thread. extremely childish and selfish.

I'm not arguing, just giving the facts and proof.....which lol is severely lacking after several repeated requests by me and many others (as you can see from post no2 in this thread he is posting false information on which people could make purchasing decisions on) It is a thread from Jan which lol had already hijacked back then so hardly selfish.

I was subscribed to this thread already when gizmob revived it and i just quoted my worst MPG i had achieved in contrast to the OP's best MPG..... B)

This thread is for 1.8 TSI discussion.

We know the wiesel is more fully efficient, I have a wiesel myself when I am felling weasely.

Do not take it seriously it is all a bit of fun.

People who know the 1.8 TSI (inc Skoda), particulatly the 7 speed DSG, know it is capable of extra-ordinary fuel economy ie 52 mpg giving the car over 600 mile on tank full, I have seen 630 miles on mile but then I have also seen 570 on our TSI VRS but then it also capable of reaching 62 in less than 8 second and 100 mph in less than 20s.

Match that with the car cost less than £20K even in L&K spec with extras like GSM 2 and paddles and I just cannot figure out why it is not more numberous than it is. Chill.

again, prove it. You say by your own admission you fill up 3times a week. So you could have by now about 12-15 fill ups since we asked you to create a fuelly account. You bark on at every opportunity but never bring any proof to the table which is very tedious.

" Choice of performance or economy "

Hello friends,

in these financial straightened times, are we still concerned about performance?? And who says that deisels are only economical?

During my crazy speeding days, I've never been ashamed of my Fiat Doblo 1.9 JTD performance. Admitedly I've never driven it faster than 90 mph ( no need to 'guv! ).

Anyways, the Octavia estate MPI, I bought purely on price, plus it is more comfortable than the Doblo, which I still enjoy driving to work.

Frank.

Give it up JRW old chap - you're wasting your time. :wall:

He can't prove his consumption figures because they are all vaguely remembered myths and fabrication.

I have fundamentally the same car as him - his figures are pure fantasy. When he did publish figures they had more holes than a Swiss cheese - that's why he doesn't give them any more.

He's winding you up - stop rising to the bait.

I know full well he can't prove it - that is why i keep asking in an attempt to withdraw his fallacies from every MPG thread that pops up. I was looking back and he has gone from getting 56MPG on one trip to now an average of 39MPG - funny that.....when he keeps being asked for proof. I just don't like people on forums that are full of BS as people come on here looking for advice and he is full of it.
