Sensitivity of Yeti alarm system

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have asked that upon delivery of the new Skoda Yeti SE that I have ordered that its security alarm system be tweaked by the dealer to reduce its sensitivity, so that on days when there are strong winds outside, the alarm system does not trigger under such conditions. The dealer has advised against this request as this is not a recommended action.

I know however that this is possible, as this is something that I had requested from previous dealers in the past. Therefore, if this is not the route recommended, and the dealer is not prepared to do that, I wonder if the following would be an alternative solution:

On the Yeti's owner manual, it is said (i.e. on page 46 of the online manual and within the "unlocking and locking" section, especially for the "interior monitoring") that when the vehicle is to be towed away, it is possible to deactivate the interior sensor of the alarm mechanism. I suppose that this would de-activate the tilting sensor as well.

Would anybody know if it is possible to switch off the interior monitoring alarm by pressing the appropriate button, on windy days, before locking the car normally? Will this action work as I would expect (hence ensure that the vehicle alarm does not trigger during strong gusts of winds when it is locked)?

The button is inside the B pillar on the drivers side. push then get out and lock car. Yes it does, so the car can be towed.

Why would windy weather set the alarm off? I suppose if you have the furry dice hanging from the mirror, then if the car swayed due to wind, then that would set the alarm off.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Elsie has been parked up in very windy places, including the hard shoulder of the M25 (another, old story) and the passing lorries never made the alarm go off.

I don't know where you live, but my alarm has never gone off in the wind, be that natural or caused by the passage of another vehicle, including trains at 90mph, 2 metres from it!

Stop worrying and enjoy your car when you get it!

Graeme, tell Sheila that these baked beans are not strong enough. Everyone needs an alarm after baked beans. Just think of the next shift in that signal box!!

The Pat Monster had issues with the alarm going off as did others with early production Monsters; dealer did adjust sensitivity under warranty which just about stopped the false alarms. Mind you can't do much about moths fluttering around in front of the sensors :giggle:

I guess that times have changed and that alarm systems have improved since Y2K. So I shall live with the signs of time, and forget this.

I therefore apologise for this wasteful posting.

Nah, nah, nah - never a waste posting on here. It is always interesting reading of others' issues and concerns, and when those concerns are answered, then collectively it feels good!!

And if along the way there's an opportunity for a bit of good humour. so much the better. We all win.

Generally speaking this Yeti forum is a welcoming place, with great help available pretty quickly. There are some extremely knowledgeable contributors, and something llike 99% of the time it is good natured and friendly.

So - keep them coming, yes??

I shall post other questions soon under different topics though.

My next posting is likely to be under the insurance topic, as I have yet to find a good reliable comprehensive cover for this vehicle, were the premium will not be too high. I shall formulate the question later, possibly on a different day.

Try Skoda. They were the best for me....by a long long way, even with a remapemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Did Skoda insurance not increase their premium with the remap? I suppose that this depends on what the remap was for.

I have heard that it is possible to professionally tweak an engine management system so as to be able to make the engine as economical as another Skoda vehicle model without losing torque or speed, and this was another question that I have asked the dealer, who again did not recommend this. I was also told that if / when such a car is brought in for servicing and the equipment is somehow reset during the service, the special tweaking may be lost. Is that correct?

Already had the MX-5 on Admiral specifically to get an Admiral Multicar policy, but the Skoda Insurance quote was so competitive that I did not bother and after the free seven day insurance I took up full insurance with them.

Hi

Yes I had to have my Yeti alarm adjusted by dealer as it would blast off in a stiff wind I got fed up with using the red button all the time.

I guess I must be lucky, mine - like others above - has been subject to wind buffeting at levels you wouldn't normally expect (recently on very high mountain tracks in the Scottish highlands) without any trouble at all. I wouldn't want to do anything about alarm sensitivity until and unless I had a problem. If it aint bust etc. If you don't even have the vehicle, and therefore are just anticipating difficulties that probably won't happen - well, IMO that route just leads to madness. There's not only the alarm, but I am sure you could think up dozens of other things to worry about that won't happen either. Just my thoughts..

Thank you all for the responses.

I guess I will have to wait and see. If this proves to be a problem I will have it adjusted, by a Skoda garage.

Sorry for not replying sooner, as I had too many projects going on in parallel and too much to do.

My Yeti alarm had never gone off in the wind. I only press the 'B' pillar button to partially disable the alarm if I have to leave my dog in the car for a few minutes.

I do have great fun driving my V8 MGB (which is a trifle on the loud side) closely past parked BMWs and setting off their oversensitive alarms though :D

I live on top of a ridge to the south of Edinburgh. We quite regularly get 50-60mph winds; when the rest of the city gets gales we get GALES. Our garden is a mass of stakes and support cages to try to reduce the carnage that the winds here wreak on our prized plants. We get fences blown down and sheds moved around by the wind. So it can be a tad breezy up here. My Yeti lives on the drive at the front of the house - west facing, so on side that the prevailing winds come from - and the alarm has never gone off due to the wind.

I too have had no problems with the alarm going off in the Yeti.

It used to be an occasional problem in my last Octy estate (solved by setting the air-con to recirc before swithching off, and closing all interior vents); air pressure changes inside the vehicle can cause the alarm to activate.

No problems with my alarm either.

No problems with my alarm either.

I have just received a quote for my (yet to arrive Yeti) 170 4x4 Elegance of £260 from SAGA (Old Codger Rate) includes No Claims protection, Legal Protection and Personal Accdent cover.

I now feel rather stupid I had read about the button to turn off the interior alarm button, spent ages opening every door looking and feeling every A, B, and C pillar on the car eventually coming to the conclusion that my build year 11 car did not have the button to turn off the interior monitoring.

After reading where it is I have just gone to the car to have another look for the said button, how on earth have I missed that glowing red beacon for the last seven months? :S :S

I got this level of cover plus comprehensive cover in Europe for up to 180 days a year for £235 from Liverpool Victoria.

Blo**y Hell! LV (my current insurers) have quoted me £520+. Have a quote from the Co-op, and also from Skoda, in the region of £480. I'm 55, so not a high risk youngster, but I suppose my W.Yorks (rather than N.Yorks or Shropshire) postcode might be a factor. Think I'll have a chat with SAGA (which my grandmother - who used to go on SAGA holidays - advises me stands for 'Sex And Games for the Aged' :D ).
