The Yeti facelift - one day

Featured Replies

VW released the official pictures today of the facelifted Tiguan.

I wonder if this is about as much as we can expect for the Yeti facelift in 2012/13? LED DRLs, LED rear lights and a mild bumper nip and tuck?

Pity those hideous eight air vents inside have not been changed though!

Oooo, I really quite like that actually. Still could never get my head round spending 5k extra on one over a Yeti and not having the flexibility of the rear seats and lower equipment levels!

Yes the exterior looks much improved, particularly the front. However the interior sadly remains just about as before; very outdated and bland. Would have bought one in mid 09 but for the interior, although thankfully I waited for the Monster.

i'm with you on that one.

for me, the yeti is better looking than either the old tiguan or the new one.

they are certainly not worth the extra 5k just for a couple of VW badges...unless you're a badge snob, of course

i just hope that skoda keep the yeti look for the facelift

I just can't figure out the Tiguan - got the family to sit in one, thought the Touran was more useful, but neither of them have any of that "special"

factor

Yawn.......another bland, boring VW clone. At least the Yeti has a little character about it and is easily recognised when you (rarely) see one on the road.

The superior interior finish, lower price and better equipment levels are also positive attributes emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I agree with others - the facelift is a bit of an improvement. I also test drove the Tiguan - it was almost my automatic 'go to' car to replace my Golf, when I decided I wanted 4x4 capability again, since I have a very good relationship with the local VW dealer, having bought so many over the years. It didn't impress me at all - it felt completely competent, as most VWs do, but very bland and uninteresting. And, as has been said, would have cost a lot more to have less features than I have now.

I did also drive, out of curiosity, a Toureg - in a big engine, Auto version - can't recall exact specs. That was not uninteresting, at all - blandness was not part of the reasons it was not for me!

I dont think they Yeti will get a facelift for quiet sometime yet. The Octavia went 6 years before it got a facelift, so that would mean 2015 for the Yeti.

When i first saw one i got all excited as my dads touareg (to me) was just lovely inside but too big for my tastes, so a scaled down model seemed awesome.

Got to the dealer and sat in it............. dear god, the interior was disgusting, i also found out it used a conventional automatic gearbox instead of a DSG.

Never thought about the car again, i see tons of them around and often wonder why people buy them over the yeti!.

Am I the only one who has the opposite reaction? I've never owned either a VW or a Skoda - yet although I have had a lot of hands-on experience with VWs.

However, I have a far more negative view of VW than Skoda. This is not a recent thing either. Over the past 30 years several of my friends have owned VWs and it is their experiences and mine when I've visited dealers that have put me off.

This is in marked contrast to visits to Skoda dealers.

For me, a VW badge means overpriced, unreliable and rather boring with dealers who fit into the "sales repulsion unit" category. A Skoda badge means a long and honourable heritage going back, I believe, considerably before VW. It also means reliability and a pleasant quirkyness with some of the best dealers this side of Honda.

No contest!

No you're not the only one. I've owned over 60 cars.....never a vag group car.Harvey is my first Skoda and certainly will not be the last.

December 1895 Laurin & Klement started producing bicycles in Mlada Boleslav, cars arrived with the display of their first prototype at the Prague Automotive Show in April 1905.

I'm afraid i've countered a considerable amount of badge snobbery since driving and owning Skodas.

The usual comment is "it's just a Volkswagen underneath" or "they are much better than they used to be nowadays" and it usually comes from people that know sod all about cars.

For example:

SWMBO used to drive a fully loaded Octavia vRS TDI in race blue. People in our road never gave it (or my L&K estate) a second glance.

Then we had a poverty spec B7 Audi A4 (horrid, basic barge) when the vRS took a knock and the neighbours were all over it saying things like "oooh, I bet you wish you could keep this don't you"

Same deal when my L&K was punted up the backside - I had a B6 Passat (again, nowhere near as nice as my L&K) and once more everyone was like "oh, thats a lovely car, are you keeping it or having the Skoda back?"

I even had a basic 1.8 Vectra for three months whilst waiting for the L&K to be built and the neighbours loved it and were mystified when the Skoda turned up emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

To be fair, they mostly drive Peugeots down my road and therefore know zip about cars emoticon-0140-rofl.gif. That aside, the ignorance-driven snobbery really annoys me.

And more recently - I bought my Superb Elegance estate and my business partner bought a fully loaded Insignia SRI. Now, the Insignia is a nice car but its let down by interior plastics and a complete lack of interior space, he regrets the purchase and has admitted he would like a Superb emoticon-0136-giggle.gif. But when we are both working on a job he always gets people looking at it, then they will glance at my car and say "why did you opt for a Skoda?"

Badge snobbery is still alive and kicking out there folks. There will always be people who will opt for a tiny engined, poverty spec. Audi, BMW or Merc rather than a fully loaded Skoda, then look down at us poor Skoda drivers.

I have to say it, certain members of my family are the bloody worst for this kind of nonsense emoticon-0149-no.gif

Despite all this, you still get knowing looks from fellow Skoda drivers you encounter on the road and I know I have a bloody good car in the shape of my Superb Estate and SWMBO loves her Yeti.

I get exactly the same reaction from these sort of people! But, when then say "its just a Wolkswagen underneath", I reply, " I'm sorry, I'm afraid its actually just an Audi underneath....". That usually shuts them up!

But, a hell of a lot of people comment what a lovely car it is, and enquire about all the goodies fitted, and these people have proved to be the majority!

Over here Skoda is unknown, the people that do know of it consider it equal with AUDI as the importer heavily marketed the superb at a high price with all the toys.

Also the whole VW thing................. i dont get it, where did the snobbery come from?.

Growing up the VW was always the 2nd car or the company car, always thought of them as bland and crap!.

My brother used to religously own golfs, had every single variant since the MK2 16v gti and in his own words they have gotten more expensive and less reliable!.
