Just been to test drive a VRS!!!! Can't afford it but it was so sexy!!!!

Please talk me in to it if you can come up with convincing reasons to buy. The best I can come up with is that because it has more usable performance it will actually be better on fuel than my 1.4TDI (This argument has failed to convince anybody so far!!!!)

Oh dear. Before you know it you'll have one on order :D

better fuel economy.

better spec all-round.

you can get those heated seats as an option (I know, it's std on the Elegance) in case you have a Mrs (or Mr) who likes to remain warm post-entering the car during the colder months ;)

Cost wise - I'm paying 270ish a month after putting down 3k. You may be able to get 3k as trade-in (or more). Perhaps you are able to get a finance deal which will allow you to get it, I dunno (shouldn't really tell ya anyway  )

Insurance will count against ya though as it's bound to be a bit higher ;)

don't think about it to much, just do it!!!!

They've offered

A loan from Alliance & Leicester is around 5.9% now I think... Was making me seriously think about doing a new loan and a wee bit of consolidation... Maybe free up some funds for further work to the car.

I agree, sod it just buy it, you know your gonna....

Can I put Mr Serious hat on... If you can't afford it don't buy it, you don't want to end up owing more than you can afford, it's a nasty viscious cycle.

One cannot take the car either. Drop the desire and relax. Balance out the advantages with the disadvantages:

Driving faster and risking one's driving license.

A compulsion to duel with others.

Buying into the costly search for more power.

Wanting to add gizmos and customise.

An inability to relax, whether driving or not.

Worrying that it will get scratched or damaged.

Worrying that someone will nick it.

Watching the car gradually wear and deteriorate.

All rather boring stuff I'm afraid, but it happens.

For 6k extra.. not a chance, is not worth it over the 1.4tdi.. stay as you are in my opinion...

Indeed one cannot BUT life is about now. Maybe by the time he can REALLY afford one he'll be 75 years old.....still at least he'll be the fastest OAP on the roads.

Hey its up to you at the end of the day, I just dont go with these "Oooh it's not a good time" merchants......because it never is a good time. Maybe I look at life a tad too simplistic and dont take much too seriously. You are a long time dead my friend. Anyway, good luck with your decision.

If it were really about now, then there would be no yearning for a future with a new Furby. I am only talking about dealing with now - removing the present yearning. Whether one has ordered a new car or not, it is the same.

Is it twice the car your current Fabia is?

Dont do it.

Keep as you are and put the money you would have used on a new vRS into something else like a holiday, or if you want to be sensible..into paying off your other debts. Do that, then you will have much more free money to spend on what you want when your debt free (or almost).

Err.....but he's asking for advice/thoughts on which to base a decision on NOW not in the future.

Correct. The indecision is based on a present desire for something in the future. He knows he cannot afford it, but desire obscures the practicalities and causes agitation NOW. That is the real problem. Better to remove the itch rather than scratch it, I say.

I'll have to sleep on it for another night :-)) My plan was to keep the 1.4TDI until it's 3rd birthday and trade up to a VRS then. Thanks for all the view points guys but maybe it's more sensible to wait untill the 55 regs comes out later in the year.

When I got the octy, I wondered about affording the repayments. Still nearly 4 years on and with just 4 payments left I have made it. I still have the octy, and still treat it the same as I did 4 years ago.

Which i guess is my point. You always question yourself with big purchases no matter what your finances, and there never seems to be a good time, so you could end up waiting forever.

Errrr......hmmmm. BUT he's asking for advice to base a decision on NOW, regardless of when he may take the plunge, he is thinking about it now, the present.

NOW is when he is being swayed by yearning for the new car. NOW he cannot afford it. NOW there is agitation. NOW any decision will be distorted. NOW he doesn't need his yearning fuelled. NOW he needs to settle down. NOW I think that is just what he has done. THEN he can re-assess things with a clearer mind. Good luck to him

NOW I am going to put a sock in it :D

I hear you BUT any decision he makes will be made NOW. My point all those posts ago was that it's never a perfect time for a big purchase, mostly big purchases are made with apprehension. Can all of us say we HONESTLY TRUTHFULLY purchased our cars with financial ease??? I certainly didn't but I dont regret it, life IS too short to be TOTALLY ruled by money. I dont know, maybe my attitude is wrong, still I'm happy.
