Injector Cleaner

Featured Replies

Put some injector cleaner in today and noticed an immediate saving on fuel usage as per the computer output. The miles left in the tank almost shot up. :o

I've never noticed a 'significant' increase in MPG when using a cleaner. (I add 1/2 bottle of Redex One Shot Diesel Treatment every month)

But it would be good to know how often a fuel cleaner should be used & are they are good?

Well for me it was almost ridiculous. Put some injector cleaner in and up in a big way went the miles left in the tank.

You must be driving more sedatley recently if there is a big increase in MPG. As for cleaner, I use Millers Diesel+ regularly as per prescibed dose. I don't for sure know if it works as they say but nevertheless it gets the treatment every fill up.

I ran a test a couple of weeks ago on my MPG.

I had a 150 mile motorway run, filled the tank with exactly 50 litres on top of an estimated 3.

I renewed the air filter and added a bottle of injector cleaner, I forget the brand, the empty bottle is in the boot though.

Stuck it on cruise control at 68mph and I got a reading of 61MPG on the average MPG computer.

I have some blue sky for sale, that instantly raises MPG by 800% I call it "All in the mind"

Also I'm sure I remember reading somewhere in the Skoda manual that they recommended not using additives/cleaners.

Whoever uses them don't forget the several £'s you are wasting on the these products to begin with, it pretty much negates any negligible effect it would have on any saving with mpg...

But what about wear & tear. Do they actually help by removing sooty deposits etc from the engine?

Personnally, i dont really care about if they help MPG or not - I'm more interested in less problems with the engine!!!

I seriously doubt that injector cleaners do anything really noticeable/tangible, and definatly won't make such a radical change (if any) in such a short period of time.

Please post up some real data from filling up brim to brim and miles travelled.

That is really the only way to see if fuel is being saved

Try putting it in a washing machine!

Years ago I decided to wash an old carpet from the boot of my toyota surf. It was full of oil. Anyway decided to put it in the washing machine when the mrs (ex) was out. after about 30 min I noticed the kitchen was flooded........the boot carpet had a rubber backing that melted and blocked the pump, it also left an oily residue over the drum and all pipework. So in desperation not for the mrs to find out i stripped the machine down and cleaned as much of the gunk out as possible, the re assembled and put on a quick wash with some redex in it. It worked! the drum was like new and the mrs never had a clue....however everything that was washed for the next month smelt of injector cleaner. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Millers definitley reduced the black smoke coming from my car when putting the foot down.

I think I got around 20 more miles from the tank as well.

my last cheap run aroung i bought for the G/F's commute for work was a MK3 Mondeo 2.0 TDDI ON 113,000 miles after 3 ish months of using a redex one shot injector cleaner in every tank the mileage started to increase, only by about 70 miles a tank.

I only used the stuff as my dad had loads left in his shed from the previous owners of his house.

You'll find the active ingredient in some injector cleaners is cetane, which in laymans terms is the same as octane in petrol.

so a can in a tank can have a similar effect to using ultimate diesel and some.

I used to do 60,000 miles a year with work, when we changed the fuel filter, we would get the engine hot first then add two cans of neat wurth injector cleaner to the new filter and go for a drive.

It went like stink, then mixed it with the tank on the return line!
