VW-Audi subsidising SEAT Exeo diesel sales

Featured Replies

For whatever reason VW-Audi are doing the "NO VAT" on the excellent SEAT (Audi A4 previous version) "Exeo" which use the latest diesel engine. Less than £20K !!!

Why are they supporting SEAT with these offers rather than Skoda ans their diesels???

Could be that, I have heard, they are trying to make SEAT a success like Skoda if not the rumours are that SEAT in Spain will close and move to Central or South America.

Interesting move by VW-Audi Group.

Not sure if these SEAT still have 10K servicing which was a pain but those in the market for a VAG diesel would logically consider the Exeo over the Octavia/Superb with this deal no or am I missing something?

I think it is a last ditch attempt at trying to save Seat which is on the bones of its ass!

Also probably a move to relieve waiting lists at Skoda whilst keeping customers in the VAG group

Seat don't seem to fit in VAG anymore, Skoda seem to have overtaken them on everything that they were meant to represent.

Look at the interior on the Leon for example, then look at the interior on the Octavia! No comparison...more comparison to a Kinder Egg to be honest. The old Leon has the old A3 dash and this was so much better.

As you know the Exeo is based on the A4, it even gets the A4 Interior which is beautiful. Lucky gits.

Shame they didn't do the same with the Leon... :peek:

Man alive, that Leon interior is NASTY. The A4 Exeo interior is nice, but I just couldn't buy one. I have major badge snobbery about Seats and what they did with the door mirrors on the A4 Exeo looks ridiculous.

Have you seen where the 'maxidot' is on the cluster?!

OMG just looked and noticed the mirrors....why an earth have they put them there?

The Exeo is just not selling at all, whilst yes its based on an Audi its a very old one. Secondhand Exeo values are terrible, you can pick one up for 10K if you look around, thats a 15K depreciation in a little over 12 months.

Seat just dont seem to fit anymore, they were meant to be the sporty arm of VAG so why do they need this old audi rehash in the lineup.

Well it is not that old, only the last model and still not a bad car. They get the latest or slightly detuned Audi petrol engines ie 2 litre TSI with 320 Nm. I wish it was the petrol on the discount. The diesel is an interesting bargain.

It is simply the price that is the problem. SEATs should be priced mid way between VW and SEAT but they cannot because of the Euro/GSP rate of exchange. SEAT need to be outside the Euro zone and I expect they will gradually move production to the expanding VW sites in Mexico where the Bettle and the other American continent models.

IIRC VW have given SEAT 5 years to turn things around or they would be closing the brand for good not just moving production elsewhere?

TBH, i dont see where the brand fits in the VW portfolio. All of the other brands have a 'sporty' model. Which sort of leaves seat making ugly and less well made alternatives to VW and Skoda. Not sure you could compare a seat to and audi?

While i like a few previous seats (mk1 LCR, Ibiza mk4/5) I also dont see a place for them. I read how they are suppose to be the sport`s brand, but as said, all other makes do a "sporty model". Small sporty car, Polo for the flush, fabia for the poor. Bigger sporty car, golf gti for the flush, octy for the poor. You get the idea, Audi do the posh and mega pricey motors, VW and Skoda have the rest covers.

It's a bit like the Lupo and Arosa to a point, although resale values are surprisingly similar.

Would agree (as a seat owner) that th Exeo is, err not very well recieved. I saw one on the way to work this morning, and it was like "ohh whats that!"

Never a good sign.

However, all this going to stop product in Spain etc is rubbish... Its the most modern and best factory that VW have...

Having seen a exeo in the flesh it is a bit meh it's trying too hard to be sporty but big and just ends up looking like the designer just lost the will to live during that car.

ooooh Wow :dull::dull::dull::dull:

I wonder where all this negative press if coming from about the Exeo. Every motoring journal I've read says it's one of SEATs stronger performing models. Audi actually have a strong tie in with SEAT (stronger than VW within the group), thats why they took all the A4 production tooling for the Exeo, to give SEAT a product in the D segment market without the big development costs.

I think that the main reason for the exeo was that Audi had a good chassis in the old shape A4 that needed no money spent on it and Seat failing miserably, so they had a stab at bringing what for Audi is a very successful car (A4) to Seat in the hope or resurrecting them. It has however not worked, because for me as soon as you look at it especially get inside it you think, hmm this is a nice old A4, not going to be 20K fo it though as I can buy this shape A4 used with low miles for 13K and it has an Audi badge on it.

Still not a bad car at all and one of my long term favourites having had 3 x B6 A4s. However it was released in 2001 (with some very early examples around on an "X" plate) so it is rather old if you think about when it was developed.

To be fair, this was never meant as competition for Audi. It's all about creating a low cost executive car to compete with the likes of a Mondeo or Vectra (or whatever its called these days). I'd take an Exeo over a mondeo or vectra in a heartbeat.

Of course it was not to be competition, it was simply a cheap way of producing a good car for a failing brand that has not worked.

Who says it hasn't worked ? is that your opinion or fact ?

I really like the look of it from what I've seen, which isn't a lot! However I didn't even know it existed before reading this thread. I think I'd consider one for my next car.

Have a look at the state of Seat in general, VAG are bailing them out daily and even the topic of this thread does not suggest that Exeos arew flying out the showroom.

I like the pictures, but having seen two today I think the front is a bit fugly.

Seat is always going to struggle to sell executive type cars for £20k+. It just doesn't fit their image and anyone with their head screwed on would know the value would bomb.

I'm not sure why Skoda can get away with the same thing. I suppose the Superb is known for having very high equipment levels and being a very big spacious car. Cheap luxury.

Well I'm going to go a test drive one this weekend. I'll let you know what I think. A 59 plate 2.0tdi with reasonable spec and less than 10,000 miles should be gettable for about 11 grand. Got to be worth a look at that price.
