uses oil ?

Featured Replies

HI my 1.9tdi uses 1 ltr of oil every 5.000 miles. I asked an AA patrol man, he said some engines are like that?

there is no leaks and have oil/filter changes each 10k. Has anyone else got this prob? what causes it to us oil?

I bought it at 64,000 miles, now on 95,000. HELP....

I think that is the borderline of what Skoda say is in-spec for the engine. I assume you are running on fixed servicing?

I run mine on LL servicing, and use maybe a 1 - 1 1/2 litres in 30k miles. Are you using the correct VW spec of oil?

Thanks for your reply mbames. I always tell them to use 5/30 long life. Ithink 5 k is far to early before my oil light comes on. Cheers.

If your running fixed intervals then I would not go for the LL spec oil, as iirc it is a bit thinner, which may be why you are burning some.

absolutly no point in using LL oil if you are changing it at 10K. just use the normal spec oil, 1L in 5K is not excessive I'm sure vw say 1L in 1K is the limit

You shouldnt be waiting for the oil light to come on to top up your oil either,1 litre in 5000miles is nothing to worry about. Some cars use that in 1000 miles.

As others, that's well within spec, and you can probably get it down a bit by stopping using long life oil.

My VRS used oodles of oil

Think you may be using the wrong spec oil for 10K service intervals ????

Try using Quantum platinum 5W40 (fully synthetic).

long life is fine for your car - just it is a little thinner so you undoubtedly burn more of it

If you wait for the oil light to remind you to top up the oil then this could work out quite expensive when the oil light doesn't work. How long does it take to do a weekly oil level check ? . A couple of mins at most.

Somewhat more expensive though :-(

I check mine every other week, as I top up the washer fluid.
