Lock In

Featured Replies

G'day folks

I got back from Snowdonia last night after locking my key in the boot on Saturday afternoon.

Skoda Assistance aka the RAC came out Sunday morning and he did his best to fiddle the door lock.

(I've since seen you can buy a VAG lock pick for £20)

I got the spare key posted to me and all is well again.

Any way to disable the auto locking on the rear hatch?

It's an S (no Maxidot for me!)

Thanks

Nigel

Someone else got caught the same way a while ago!! Think they ended up with a broken window.

No, you can't disable the locking as it is part of the central ECU. You have to learn to keep the keys in your pocket, I'm afraid.

Thanks Llanigraham.

Still, the drive down to Bala yesterday almost made it worth it :)

Never use the boot unlock button. When you close the boot it will lock.......With or without the keys in your hand.

I've done this once......luckily I was at home and was able to use the spare key.

The blank looks like a good idea if you can find somebody to 'cut' it. BMW used to supply a wallet key ready cut.

My Audi had three keys when I got it. Two flip keys like we have and one of those plastic keys I kept in my wallet. I miss not having one on the Yeti.

Does anyone know if the mobile phone unlocking trick actually work ?

Was proved to be an urban myth, especially as no-one uses sound waves to disarm their alarms now!! All done by RADIO transmission.

was under the impression that mobile phones operated at RF ie they receive and transmit RF frequencies lots of shouting otherwise.

Drum,

if you reply using the "multiquote" button you can still type any reply underneath the quote.

Agreed, but the supposed "trick" was that if you had locked your key in the car someone else with a dupicate key could phone you on the mobile and by pressing their fob down the phone that would unlock your door, using the "tone" from the fob.

For £20 I might get one of these: http://bit.ly/i4RRAt and put it somewhere on the car.

Looks convincing enough on YouTube!

The other trick I heard was to tape the spare key behind a rear light or indicator.

Less trauma than breaking a window...

Bit of a worry, as anyone could buy these and gain access to your pride and joy!!!

By driving around with this on the car aren't you "going equipped"?

Nice idea - BUT! - Unfortunatly not much use for Yeti drivers.......(need to open the boot to remove the Torx screws and release the rear lights).emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

Had a quote from a national retailer that they will provide and cut me a spare key [no transponder - so access to vehicle only!] for £7 whilst I wait.emoticon-0144-nod.gif

The only proviso / advice was that I should check first with the vehicle manufacturer, that attempting to open the vehicle with the key would not screw up the alarm / immobiliser / engine management system. The guy said that he had heard somewhere that some models could be badly (expensive repair) affected by the use of a non transponder or incorrect key. Any one know of this before I try one?

I will try and contact Skoda and see if I can find an answer. Anyone with a good contact and phone number?). I will post back here and let you know if I am successful.

I thought the transponder related to the ignition only.

I walked to the Cwellyn Arms immediatly after locking my key in the car to celebrate and bought an unusually revolting pint of beer.

So much for real ale!

I think the idea is to smash the light to get access to the key.

Best make it the right indicator so you stick your arm out the window for hand signals!

...and I did get a locksmith to break into the Yeti using a pick, with no nasty after effects.

Love it......
