1.2 TSI 105bhp tuning

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just about to order an Elegance with the 105bhp TSI engine and wondered if any of you have considered remapping it as i've seen a couple of mods giving +25bhp which would be nice.

Any thoughts (notwithstanding warranty issues)

Thanks

Dave

Do Skoda not do the 1.4 122 BHP engine?

I don't think so. I beleive the new engine is only available on VW and possibly Audi at the moment. Its a newer engine so maybe the new vrs will have it in 2012? the only 2 options are 105 and 180.

thanks,

Mat

All I would say is go for it if you are happy voiding the warranty. Dealerships are becomming very sharp with this sort of thing and is now quite throwned upon. I personally wouldnt take the risk until the 3 years are up.

Not sure that the standard chassis and brakes on the Elegance would easily handle another 25hp, vRS is another matter with its custom chassis and disc brakes all round.

If you go for it avoid tuning boxes like the plague also, they just vary a handful of different engine parameters at most by intercepting the signals from the ECU, some just kid the engine into thinking it is in cold start mode. A proper ECU remap is the best way to go a it will be created to match your exact vehicle. With some you can also buy a device which allows you to switch between tuned and standard maps which is useful, Superchips, Revo and Celtic Tuning all offer these. Also I would at very least spec the sports suspension package from the options list, at least it will then go round corners OK.

At 900 euros + 143 for fitting they must be having a laugh! :giggle:

Sorry sharkrider, was referring to Mike Austin Link for some company called 'MTM' -900Euro+fitting seems a tad expensive.

I agree your £289 tuning box is alot cheaper but as others have said wouldn't touch that with a bargepole

REVO option would be much better.

If by MTM you are referring to Motoren Technik Meyer, their tuning products are superb. There is an outfit called Quattro Sports (QST) in Haywards Heath that sell their tuning parts and engine maps.

My friends Dad had a 2001 Audi S3 210ps and QST re-mapped it to nearly 260ps. I went in it a few times and the thing was immense! With an exhaust change and de-cat it would have made over 280ps. With just 260ish ps flat out it would pull 165mph!

Is run by a guy called Kim Collins and their products are expensive but he's one of the most experienced VAG tuners in the business, he can extract 730hp from a new RS6, thats impressive!

I don't think those 'tuning boxes' are a good idea. If you've got to increase performance I think a proper remap from Shark Performance or REVO would be your best bet.

Celtic have pulled their TSi map. Apparently they went to someone with a Polo and it wouldn't start once they mapped

Watch this space if certain things can be done is all I will say!

Can these tuning boxes remove the 0.5-1.0 second delay in throttle response when the pedal is floored? Today, I drove two Fabias - a 1.6tdi 90hp and a VRS. Both these, and two 1.2tsi's I drove a while back, have the same delay. I got back in my old Fabia and all was well again.

Thanks for the replies all.

Not a big fan of the tuning boxes to be honest.

I've been running a Celtic remap on my Civic for a few years and am very impressed with it 193bhp from 140bhp.

By the looks of it not too much out there yet so will and see what comes out over the coming months.

Also I would at very least spec the sports suspension package from the options list.

What is 'sports suspension'? The VRS has 'sports suspension', so does the Monte Carlo. The Green Line has 'lowered suspension' (15mm, I think). The options list quotes 'sports suspension' at £105. This used to be called 'lowered suspension' and was standard on the Sport.

I suspect that 'sports suspension' on the VRS is unique to the VRS, and that 'sports suspension' on the options list is merely 15mm lowered. Can anyone clarify?

Well someone finally remapped one and the results.... well are pretty good.

Thats knocking on the door of the 1.4tsi engine, bear in mind its a fair bit lighter than its twincam brothers too!.

Who knows, maybe there is more to come?

Thanks. I've just found this on youtube. Judging by the number plate, this seems to be the Dutch JD Engineering. The remap costs 690 Euros. This sort of power is just what I would be looking for. I can get a Fabia Mk2 Elegance 105tsi non-dsg in my chosen colour, with the sports suspension (I still need to know if that is merely a 15mm drop or something more).

40 hp shy of our TSI's mate :p

Yes, that's 40hp short of putting it in a ditch

haha

I was going to say that this should please all those teenage drivers, 140bhp and torque isnt something to be sniffed at!.

Oh and i meant the original 1.4tsi which put out 140bhp ;)

I drove one and it was pretty rapid, then again its probably making 180bhp like the VRS is!.

I'm sure it's not just a 15mm drop. Sports suspension will be the same as fitted to the vRS.

I have sports suspension. As well as a 15mm drop it is definitely a firmer ride as the spring will need to have a greater spring rating to prevent bottoming on the reduced max travel. Secondly the damping will have to be modified to match the different spring rate and amount of axle travel. The difference in cost is probably the difference between a set of standard shocks and springs and vrs shocks and springs, although in reality there is probably little difference in cost to skoda at the point of manufacture you are probably paying to 'upgrade'. FWIW the improved body roll and handling balanced against only a slight compromise in ride quality is well worth the extra cost.

Thanks. That's good to know. I asked the question because the 15mm drop was originally announced as just that in the first 2009 brochure (January) as standard on Blueline, Greenline and Sport, but not as an option on others. It was then added as an option called "Lowered suspension" in the February 2009 brochure for £90. The option was then called "Sports suspension" for £95 in the April 2010 brochure (my version only has S, SE, Elegance and Scout in).
