Looking at a PDA that will do alot of things / mean I can go away without taking my laptop.

Ths I am at:

Model - HEWLETT PACKARD IPAQ H5550

128 mb Internal Memory

Infrared Port

Handwriting Recognition

Touch Screen Keyboard Type

Colour Screen

240 X 320 Display Resolution

400 mhz Processor speed

SD Expansion Slots Available

Pocket PC 2003 Operating system

Integrated Speakers

Or

HEWLETT PACKARD IPAQ HX4700

MS WINDOWS MOBILE 2003 SECOND EDITION

624 mhz Processor speed

192 mb RAM Memory

Integrated Bluetooth

Integrated WIFI

MP3 Player

Handwriting Recognition

1 Expansion Slots

Touch Screen Keyboard

480x640 Display Resolution

*Note hx4700 does not have 192 tradtional, only 64 if the same measure as 5550 is used, as I understand it. Somthing about that memory being used as an area that retains data even if hard reset.

Dell Axim X50 520Mhz

I am leaning towarsd the second since I have some investment in CF cards and no investment in SD cards.

First can of course take a jacket for CF cards, but it's more cash again etc.

Palm?

If you want it as a laptop replacement, I think the high-res screen is not to be sniffed at. My Dell X5 is really nice and does everything I want. I just wish there was more realestate in terms of desktop space

Palm!

Palm an option...really need it to be totally compliant...which I know palms can be, but I've not totally looked into them for that aspect. Gone for the easier road for a change...till I hit upon a choice.

Not as a replacment for the laptop, more so I can leave it at home for a weekend, but still do somthing should the need arise, eg web / ssh / email / spreadsheets etc.

Accidentally voted for the Hp........

I'd say Dell X50.

Middle of the range version.

May not have as much grunt under the bonnet as the HP, but, has everything else. CF card slot, wi-fi, bluetooth,

it's almost

Nice promo...Dell is nice and does do what's needed.

Found a review that said the new screen on the 4700 is very nice, having seen it on a friends it does look good and a lot bigger when compared to the qvga.

Happy to go with dell x50, but where to see it before you buy it?

Oddly enough PC world online have the best prices I've found thus far.

Nice promo on the dell mind...but using the CF slot negates the above as the tuner / fm cards would never be used owing to the CF's I have...argh swings and roundabouts...

Palm Tungsten T3 or T5

I've had Palms - in fact I used to program software for them, but I find that the HP's usefulness is fantastic, Intergrated Bluetooth and WiFI, able to browse Windows folders, etc. Just great.

Just bought a Mitac Mio 168. Not anywhere near the specs of those listed, but integrated GPS... Nice little unit, runs everything I need, and only a mere 325 of your earth pounds. I'll pop a review up when I've had it a bit longer.

(BTW - I voted for the Dell, but I'd hike up the warranty).
