Castle Combe Summer Action Day - 10/09/11

Oooo. Controversial :D I thought they did quite well really and was nice meeting people with something other than a Fabia or Octy. Same for Superbs

+1 As I understand it, the whole ethos of this day out/meet/family picnic* is about getting out on track with (apparently) like minded people and enjoying yourself for a few laps of a great circuit regardless of what you're driving or your level of track experience.

I'm sure that all drivers are reminded of this in the drivers briefing along the lines of "this isn't a track day, or a test day it is an action day"

I have been to this meet several times now and have ventured out on track with all sorts of hardware and had a great time.

IMO comments that other vehicle types "were annoying" serve only to cause ill feeling and will deter members turning up to enjoy themselves.

If you want an event whereby you will be "up against" faster moving machinery, book a trackday.

Hmmmmmm............. maybe I'll track the Roomster this time :giggle:

Well said Barrie. The only prioritising I will be doing is anything with a Skoda badge on it (or a Skoda sporting a badgeless grille else I'd be banning myself.... :D)

I'm all for a Skoda stand but if you have a track-ready Fabia/Octavia with a driver that likes driving fast and does regular track days, it's annoying when a guy is going on the track in a Yeti to poodle around being overtaken by everyone using up a valuable space... I'm just saying that the cars more track focused should take priority, as last time the slower cars were just an inconvenience tbh

Sorry if that seems snobbish but if a 300hp Octavia with an experienced driver wants to do a track session I think he should take priority over someone tracking their Yeti for a bit of a giggle because they're bored and fancies driving around a track at the same speed he does on the road, all IMO of course

I have to disagree.

To me the whole point of this event is to let people have a bit of fun and take the cars on track. You only get about 5 laps!

It's not competitive, it's a fun day, a get together isn't it?

For people who want a full on blast there are other full day events where you get a lot more track time.

I've never been on a track before in my life and if all I was going to do was hold up people with 300bhp Octavias I'd probably not bother.

We all have to start somewhere... even Yeti drivers. :giggle:

At least you get to blast past them.

Exactly. Just go on one of the many track sessions aimed at faster cars.

Lots of people, including myself, had never been on track and wanted to experience the thrill.

As CT17 said anyway, you only get 5 laps / 15 minutes!

if that the last time i went was lucky to get 10 lol

I always aim these sessions at newbies and encourage anyone wanting a first time taster to take part. If anyone with more experience etc is upset by slower/amateur track-driving, then quite simply don't take part. :) I know it will never be like a proper open-pit trackday, but then it isn't one. Its just a little opportunity to get out and have a blast.

I'd have to question whether this is the kind of event you are ever going to enjoy, as no matter which session you pick on the day be it a Briskoda exclusive session or not, you have no control over the hardware that is on track.

Your comments don't sound snobbish. Inconsiderate? a little. Insulting to other members? without question. As stated before, if you or the 300bhp Octavia driver want a track day, book one.

I have to agree with this....

Im waiting for the yeti drivers now just getting in the way for their amusement :giggle:

and in defence you could have someone plodding around in their octy or furbie tbh :smirk:

whos yeti had the helicopter on top lol i wonder if that could stay on for a lap  was that your rockhopper?

Jason, prioritize Fabia's, Yeti's were annoying last time tbh

LOL!!!!! Ridiculous comment

From memory, at least one Yeti was bloody shifting along on track at the last one

I have today booked our spot. Not paid any money yet, and I shall be sending out the PMs to get money off everyone on track list so far this weekend at some point. Only 4 spots left really, but plenty for spectating.

Cheers

Jason

Considering how far off this is, you can see it's popular.

Pretty sure you haven't emailed all Briskodians this time too.

Nope - These events do tend to be "tried" once by many, and they just keep coming back :D Best form of advertising :D

Like a twice yearly pilgrimage (sp)

Well if you struggle to fill the track, i might be able to provide a mobile chicane for the zuberfurbywrcrsturbos in my lil hairdresser-mobil emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

:giggle: I was waiting for something like that

Castle coombe always provides a good day imo  and with the powers most skodas run with the odd handfull the brisk sesdion is never going to be a mad paced 15mins

I alway think it would be nice to see some of our groups higher powered stuff on the mixed sessions

think i managed 5 sessions in april

I may do another session in September, but if I am going to risk it in a mixed session with people who have probably not been on track before, I would rather do a full trackday. I paid £80 for a full Llandow trackday earlier this year - that's a lot of track miles for your £££
