WIPERS

Just noticed today when giving the Yeti a wash, that the drivers side wiper when lifted up to clean windscreen fouls against the edge of the bonnet. Didn't damage the paint, but could have,so be careful. Also waiting for dealer to get a new rear badge to be fitted free. ( the dreaded white worm strikes again )

Which is why there is a special setting on the wipers to lift the arm. It is mentioned in the handbook but mine isn't to hand at the moment.

Just operae the wiper stalk after shutting down the engine and removing the key, and they go to the service position.

Incidentally, the wipers on LHD versions do not foul the rear edge of the bonnet when lifted from the normal position.

Nor do mine - I have not had to do anything to make mine clear the bonnet when cleaning the car.

Dear Llanigraham, I am not a retard, I know about the wiper park position, but it's not the first thing you would think of when just lifting the wiper arm to clean under it. Think about how you phrase your replies to questions, unless you are one of the know all clan who like to belittle people.

I have always found the compulsory wiper service position requirement a tad annoying. Having just cleaned the screen it is far too easy to smear it when reparking the wipers. Although the system aids blade security it has always struck me that over enthusiastic leaflet dropping while parked could potentially damage the bonnet edge. Just my opinion. Not certain if the rear wiper is the same system as the Octy but that will spring back far too easily breaking the flimsy blade retaining clip - probably only happens once as the lesson is soon learned.:o

People get very sensitive about what seems like a reasonable reply. You never claimed to know about the "service position" for your wipers. One has to ask why you did not think about it when cleaning the screen?

When people try to give you assistance, try to be grateful instead of offensive and critical. Nobody knows everything about the Yeti.

Mmmm ... it's easy to misread 'tone' in text postings. Clearly you've taken the view that the Welshman is being condescending, but I'm not sure that's actually the case. Sometimes a quick answer just gives that impression. It seemed to me he was trying to help, but couldn't remember the details without the handbook.

Chuffin' 'eck. What am I doing defending a Taff - unheard of!!!!!!!!!!!! :S

That's a bit OTT!

Errrm.... I didn't notice anyone being called a Retard.Am I missing something here?

Like you Anzio, I was aware of this, and when my windscreen was replaced last week I was "hovering " around because I didn't want my Bonnet damaged.

I learnt that you can just move the wiper arms up with no resistance.I didn't know that ,but the National windscreen Guy obviously did.

You learn something everyday.

This feature is actually quite annoying, especially during winter times. If you want to lift up your wipers to prevent them from freezing stuck to the window, you must "move" them over the frozen window, thus probably scratching both the glass and the wiper blade in the process

Anzio:

1/ Nowhere did I criticise you, or be rude about you, or belittle you.

2/ It was a quick reply with a short and simple answer.

3/ Not everyone reads their handbooks, so doesn't know about this feature.

4/ I was trying to be helpful, would you prefer me not to be?

:dull: :'( :'( :'( :S

Your middle smileys look in need of a wiper. Take it the outer two are in the service position :giggle:

Now lets get things into perspective, I'm very grateful for any help I get on this forum, and from time to time have even given help to others. If the answer to my post had been something along the lines of:- " Did you know there is a special position " I would not have taken offence, but I'm afraid " Which is why...... is not the way to answer. How many people actally put their wipers in the park position to clean the windscreen? I'm sure most just lift the wiper arm as I did, and thats all I was getting at.

Anyway, as I said, think before you ink, and be polite.

Cheers my dears.

And practice what you preach.

Come on Anzio, you can't expect a Welshman to appreciate the finer points of the etiquette of politeness! Forgive his clumsy ways ... he's barely learned to walk upright! ;)

Hi,

often used the park position with the previous Yeti for washing and in the winter; wipers to low in the normal position to get warmed by the windscreen blower.

From experience with this Monster I've opted for the electrically heated screen for her replacement :)

Why are you being really offensive? Is it necessary?

Further evidence of how the tone of text can be misread .... it was meant as a joke!

To all my Welsh compatriots.

Please ignore those attempts at subtle jokes and jibes about us from those who live on the other side of Offa's Dyke. They do not understand our superiority or our educatedness. One day they will realise that if it wasn't for us they would be subjugated.

Cymru am Byth!!

And Anzio, I did reply to you in the shortest way possible, as it was between trains, whilst I was at work.

If you had said it of any other country it would have been considered racist.

26/4/11 Anzio says his winscreen wipers hit the bonnet.

26/04/11 LLanigraham says there is a special setting (to solve this)

26/04/11 Agerbundsen says effectively the same........

27/04/11 Anzio says ...." I'm not a retard...."

Am I missing something here, or am I the retard?

This is a really peculiar thread - perhaps worth of early closure?

My Twopennyworth:

I've been on the Forum several weeks now and read almost every post as research to ordering a Yeti (which I have now done). I have seen many, many posts from Llanigraham which have always been very helpful. I don't know Llanigraham from Adam but I have read this post several times and cannot see what the problem is with his reply. On the other hand (IMHO) I think the original poster's response was unwarranted and unneccesary.

I do wish a Moderator would intervene and put this Topic out of it's misery and close it!

I intend to take on board every bit of information supplied by this Yeti Forum so that I'm fully up to speed for the arrival of my Candy White SE Yeti, 110 4x4, with heated seats, heated front window, mud guards, rubber mats, boot mat, TPM, off road button, rough road package, Xenon headlights, hill hold, light assistance, lumbar support and supaguard which allegedly is set to arrive September from ordering it two weeks ago - as an aside I'm also putting a Yeti (including a similar 'etched effect' on the inside of the side boot windows) on it as per the following link Yeti Silhouette

I used to put gold or silver horizontal side stripes on new cars to make them just that little bit different from the 'pack' - but in this case I think the silhouette will suffice!

Anyway, I've digressed enough - just my twopennyworth - as my deceased father always said, "Always listen to advice/help whether good, bad, helpful, unhelpful, constructive or destructive - it's you're choice as to whether you take it. It also serves two purposes; the person supplying the advice/help feels better for doing so, and one day you never know, SOME OF IT MAY PROVE TO BE USEFUL"
