Keeping VRS seat's clean

Featured Replies

Evening,

Is it possible?

Did you get it scotchgarded?

We had a look at a ex demo today, it was 3 months old and the seat's were well stained! :( Asked the dealer and he said that they had a lot of complaints about the seat colouring.

We have a vaulhall meriva, the seats are part blue, and there tricky to keep clean, and we try and keep the car clean and tidy!.. I noticed when I have to clean the seats; I must clean the whole of the car seat else you can see the water stains. If this the same with the VRS?

My wife had a look in the VRS today and liked it, BUT..... "Oh dear those seats" (colour) :thumbdwn:

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Recovering the seats - I am very, very seriously considering getting that done. My Mrs said the exact same thing... And I agree. These light colours are rubbish frankly.

That said, the rest of the car kinda makes up for it :D

Had the seats treated by the dealers before I took delivery and 7 months on the not a mark on them.

Well worth the extra

Had mine since sept 04 and have two young kids and a messy missus. I treated mine with Diamonbrite Jewelultra and they are, quite frankly, spotless.

i have the same problems with my seats, i have treated them with fabric protector, but i have got a few marks on them and they wipe off ok, but due to the water stain effect i end up having to clean the whole panel where the mark was

For me its not so much the keeping them clean, its the really silly 'easy snag' fabric that is used. Its like the old days when a lady used to ladder her tights. Tartan rug on the back seat and some slip on covers on the fronts kinda spoils it all really.

I really like my car, but there are so many annoying things about it too, that I have never come across with any other make of car.

Extra crunchy gearbox

Easy snag seat upholstery

Super slippy foot pedals

Mega grumbly brakes when driving normally

Start at volume eight, turn it up to twelve, but go back to six when you get to ten volume control. Or any variant there of depending on start point.

The car is not particularly low either, but it bottoms out on the slightest rough surface or high kerb, the floorpan is smashed to pieces and its only three months old.

Apart from that, I love it.

I would put plain black set covers on the front, but they soon look stretched and loose,

i think i will just empty a tin of scotchguard on them for now.

I think the quality of the material used for the seats is poor - not just the VRS but across the whole range. The 'snagginess' reminds me of nylon sheets. It lets down the rest of the car. Are VWs and Seats upholstery the same?

IMHO it is the one area of the car where corners have been cut a little too much.

Hmmm,

so scotchgard does the job ok then yes?

Remember Plumbs Loose Covers for furniture?

Perhaps you should have got yourself a 4x4. I can't see how driving normally you'd bottom out underneath

Me neither, I havent done it yet and by most peoples admission I drive like a looney, hehe.

Alternatively get the council to fill in the potholes

Where can you get this scotchguard then?

I have asked for it in my local B&Q and Halfords and they looked at me like i was from the moon

I live in Cheshire btw

I found it near the garden furniture in my local B&Q Warehouse (Reading), the service desk knew where it was but a random member of staff had no clue.

They had about four different sorts, I got the protector spray in a red can but they also had a more heavy duty protector spray for outdoor use.

It may have been discontinued

http://www.fabricdyes.co.uk/ lists it and you can get it through Ebay but http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post?t=9486 notes "FWIW, real Scotchguard was withdrawn by 3M some time ago because of the possibility that one of its components could accumulate in the body"

Like you wanna be eating the stuff ???

Suppose they're covering their backsides, can't blame them.

Jon Lewis Stores do the full range of 3M Scotch Guard.

Cheers

Apparently true, it can damage the liver, but now that's why it has 'new improved formula' stickers on it :) - you can read about it here:

http://www.chemicalindustryarchives.org/dirtysecrets/scotchgard/1.asp

It's spelt Scotchgard (no 'u') by the way if you're looking for it, B&Q, Robert Dyas etc all sell it.

Now only kills ya a little bit then, in it's new and improved form

Thanks for the linkage - interesting read
