FABVRS Top Speed

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I went abroad recently. My faithful Furby VRS was allowed to run as fast as he could and the speedo read 150mph. Maybe there would have been more with a hill and/or tailwind, but from a turbo diesel (albeit with Revo code and air intake mods) I was plenty pleased.....

I took a picture and saved it as my profile pic.

Remember this was taken where the speed limit is considerably higher than the UK....

Hi, it's a rapid car no doubt but a lot of cars at that indicated speed would have a speedo error of at least 10%.

My Octavias (and a few others' here) were consistently out by 7-10% even at 70/80 mph.

It was probably nowhere near a genuine 150.

The standard car can do 128 mph. A remapped one will add maybe between 5 and 10 mph to the top end, depending on how much power you have. You were probably doing about 135 mph in reality. Still not bad though!!

How do i see this profile pic !?!?

EDIT: Don't worry - just found it :)

Hi guys,

I know that the real speed is prebably around 135.... Speedo error must account for upto 10% although I would be interested if anyone has done a speedo versus real speed comparison.

Diesels (even turboed) are not really set up for top speed, because even with the longer gearing, top speed is about power. The power tails off over 4500 in mine (standard it's finished by about 4) and even though it revs to 5200 in every gear - except 6th - it'll never get those last few mph...

Acceleration runs I have done have also shown 6.5 secs 0-60 and a 0-100mph time of around 15 seconds. this is more real world performance. In gear times are v. good too. Fuel consumption is superb too.

Just to finish, the Furby VRS is a spankingly good little car!

150? that's the difference between your remap and mine because mine still wont go above 130 mph (managed 140 I think down a hill on my private track), I think it's because Mike configured it this way, I do seem to have tremendous in gear acceleration and similar 0-60 runs/0-100 runs, but gearing hasn't been extended.

its possible that this furby has a longer gearbox slightly? Not sure but I thought the older furbies had a longer 6th gear?

And for the record, on the level mine now touches 130 indicated, when it never used to go beyond 115 before the remap. I think the power pushes it beyond the limiter.

You can get an additional 40bhp just by modifying the air intake? Coz I just saw your profile and ur list of mods says u only modified your air intake, and you wrote ur specs out with 170 bhp, which seems a little much.

I can honestly say i have seen 140mph indicated out of a 100hp fabia with a body kit. I have to say though that was what i would call a 'quick-un'.

Must change that profile now. REVO "optimisation" came shortly after the air intake mods.

On another thread we checked the gearing and mine is an April 04 car with the shorter gearing: 6th gear is arouns 32.4 so we used that plus revs of 4500 to work our 146mph. Still not sure myself......

Chris I've noticed that mine wont go past 128..........before the tune it saw 130 topped out (GPS confirmed). But it does get to 128 very very quickly now :D

Standard Furby, no mods - dial speed 136 (approx) GPS said 131! Autobarns in Germany, Nice sunny day on the flat over about 2 miles. Bring on the Revo... Still had a bit more in it as well, but traffic slowed me down, one run was enough for that day!

Have seen 125mph on mine in standard tune which I thought was fine as that was the quoted top speed (turns out it's quoted as 115!). Not tried it since getting the tuning box, but I suspect with higher fuelling, it might hit the cut off earlier..........

Chris

I've been in a unchipped Fabia vRs that was doing 136 on GPS on an unrestricted motorway once.

 On an autobahn I've seen 135 on a number of occasions with my std map but I've never really had a chance to max out on my generic AMD remap yet. It certainly does get up there a lot quicker though and it got to 130 so easily it was ridiculous. My gut feeling is that it will run out of revs before it runs out of power on the 2004 gearing

Forgive me, but most of these Fabia indicated top speed figures of 128, 130 etc seem pretty low. I was under the impression that the standard vRS fabia was running about 10-15bhp above the book figure. Now i can get an indicated 122mph on the flat in a standard 110 TDI Octy, so i am shocked that 140+bhp fabias can only get an indicated 130mph.

Why so low?? gearing??, drag??, what?

JD

Gearing.... 130mph @ 4000 rpm in 6th. Peak power tails off after that. Also aerodynamics play a part too, the Fabia is less aerodynamic than an Octavia.

Older Fabias had longer gearing, but even then there is a problem... around 130ish in 5th at 4,000 and it usually does not have the power to get up any higher in 6th I would hazard a guess, unless its remapped.

Hi JD,

I think that most of the guys here are saying that standard Furby VRS are doing around 130.

I started this thread with mine which reads 150, but it is REVO'd and has a couple of mods. Using gearing and revs, I think we worked out that it was doing a real 146 which is excellent.

Turbo diesels don't have lots of top end power which makes top speed difficult. Also, there is a massive amount of extra horsepower required to make small gains in top speed - unless you use aerodynamics.....

In gear acceleration is where the TD's win every time!

128-130 is about all I've seen and mines be remapped. Now when I tested that the air filter was dirter than a full blow porn movie! I've since cleaned it but I dont have the "b*lls" to try it on a private track.

the time I hit 128 on the gps the needle was close it 135 on the clock, many I could have got more but I dont like to push the car or my luck

I can't get mine above 130 no matter how hard I try, I think if I had of asked mike for top end power it would have a little more in it, but I like the monstorous ammount of mid range pull, there is no let up.

Where is the green filter cleaning kit?

you could try demon tweeks you should get some discount. I arranged a group buy last month so you missed out on that one - sorry.

Failing that I've heard that Halfrauds do them to

:( I'll try demon tweeks...

Lets face it though, in this country, who really needs to go 130+ mph? I drive pretty quick, but generally do my best (not always succesfully mind) to keep to speeds where I'd at least keep my license if caught.

Dubai is full of highways so everyone drives really fast, especially outside the city. I get 138mph with my 2.0, and it can go even faster, but I don't push my luck...you never know what could happen...and the fabia is a small car.

indeed and that's why I wouldn't like to push my luck, it's best saved for the track :D
