F1 GP 2011 - boring

Featured Replies

Button! How many pit stops? + a drive through + a puncture half way around the circuit and came out the pits 21st and last on his last pit stop. AMAZING

Let's not get carried away - today was a great race, but I wouldn't say it's been a great season

That was an awesome race by Jenson - 6 pits and battled through from last!

I would, its got me watching regularly again

Awesome race! The Button haters aren't happy. If that drive doesn't prove how good he is I don't know what will. Really hope he doesn't get penalised

Great news. The stewards will take no further action and the result stands (BBC website 7 mins ago :) )

That's good news. This time the Ferrari International Assistance (FIA), did not hand out penalties for Jenson.

I agree, It was a great race today even if rain stopped play just after the start. Jenson did brilliantly, after 6 pitstops (Vetel only did 3) and was in last place at some points, to win the race was good work.

I'm not into Bikes, but watched Moto 2 on the red button and enjoyed watching that young Bradley Smith slice through the field (in the pouring rain), after starting 28th on the Grid. That endurance race in France had a quite close ending too, 2nd place was only 19 seconds behind the leader after 24 hours of racing.

That was a cracking race, eventually and Button from last to winner was brilliant.

Great race when it eventually got going - switched on at 5:45pm to watch the start (under safety car :wonder: ) and got pretty bored with the procession before it got red flagged.

Wifey then says "this is boring, do you want to watch King's Speech" - we had borrowed it. So watched that and when it had finished stuck BBC back on and the race had just re-started. Glad I continued to watch - Well Done Jenson !!!!

Other than Vettel's dominance of winning, I've really enjoyed this season.

Rest of the season could get interesting as Mclaren seem to have caught the bull's pace and with the blown diffuser gizmos being limited/banned as of Silverstone, should hopefully castrate the redbull's quali pace a bit IMO

If old Vet tell as DC calls him hadn't dropped it though, it would have been the same old. Glad JB won, made a change and I'd liked to have been a fly on the wall in their pit garage viewing the discussion between "the best driver in the world" in his mind, who also dropped it, and the one who is - because he won.

I watched the whole lot from 5:30 to 10:15, It was a different kinda race, Vettel, Vettel, Vettel, Button??? WOW!

Lewis needs some time out to think about his conduct.

I mean, what was all that driving about dropping debris everywhere for? Should be penalised for that as others would be. Not becuase, as he says, he's black, but because he's becoming an arrogant arse.

Lewis is young and clearly getting a bit frustrated but I'd rather watch him try and make something of his race than everyone follow each other round the track.

Looks like Jenson did Mansell .......and Lewis tried doing a Senna but didnt get away with it

I must have missed that in all the excitement - I didn't even realise Mansell was driving :-(

Awesome win by Jenson and well earned too even though this still isn't enough proof for some of the Button haters that he is a good driver.

Don't know what to make of Hamilton. He is a good driver and it's really refreshing to see someone have an attacking driving style in F1, Kobayashi and Di Resta are similar too. It could be just a blip and he's putting too much pressure on himself to do well, or maybe trying to be too much like his idol.

He has improved in some ways. Everyone said he'd shred these new tyres due to his driving style and he has adapted. The only things I didn't like was his "crew" in the pits. Why are they there? I can understand family and his missus but surely they are just distracting him from the job he has to do? I think once he realises he can't always have a winning car and he does have to work on improving it he will be fine. Unlike most drivers he was lucky to end up with a seat in a top car for his first season. Most rookies start out in one of the lower cars and ear their way up. Many don't make it. Think he needs to enjoy it more. Andrew Jordan (BTCC) had an interview about the "controversy" of the turbo cars being much faster than the N/A cars. He just said he thinks himself lucky to be even racing and not to whinge and complain and to just get on with it and improve.

The only other disappointments over the weekend were some of the marshalls nearly killing themselves and as usual the inconsistency of some of the decisions. Di Resta got a drive through for clipping Heidfeld even though he effectively penalised himself by having to pit for a new front end. Seems to me you get penalised for trying to overtake and if it doesn't work you get slapped for it.

The marshall that fell over not once but twice was hilarious! Dangerous but hilarious all the same.

As per the thread title....European GP - usual suspects. Shan't bother continuing to watch this if it continues. Like the old shoe maker days...dreadfully dull week after week.

Try to watch some Indy Car or NASCAR, absolutely mental by comparison. Looks really simple at first glace but much more detailed and interesting when you get in to it.

Australia has commented that if F1 goes with the V6 and 12,000 rpm rule they will go to the Indy Series rather than stay with F1. Several countries in addition to the US have adopted Indy Car. Yes they race on Ovals, actually not truly ovals but ovalish, they run at much higher speeds that F1 cars and there is massively more overtaking and they have women drivers (Danica Patrick)!

NASCAR, drivers physcially fights both with the cars and afterwards are virtually encouraged to have a pop. Hundreds of overtakes per race. 200 mph, often pushing nose to tail, in cars you can pop down and buy, well the shape is the same and engine block, Camry, Charger, Fusion (not the same Ford version in Europe) and Impala. After a depressing F1 "race" usually have a fun NASCAR to look forward to and twice as often as there are 35 races odd per season.
