Morning Guys,

sorry its taken a week to reply, been enjoying the car way too much!

so last tuesday, went to the dealers around 12.30 to pick up the car and the unbelievable happened... the central locking broke, the keys lost contact with the door locks so it would lock, luckily it was unlocked or no one would have been able to get into it! anyway, the salesman assured me it wouldnt take long to fix so we carried on with the paperwork...

an hour passed and the service dude came over saying they had no idea what was wrong and that they were going to give me a courtesy car till it was sorted. I was devastated :( i had gone there expecting to pick up my spanking new motor and i was driving away in a 1.2 12V monte! how anyone can drive one of them is beyond me, most gutless engine ive ever driven, struggled to do 70! they even had the cheek to ask me to put petrol in it!

so off i went, fuming, to ring SUK customer services... that was a pointless call. they wouldnt do anything for me at all because the dealer was fixing it... anyway just by chance i headed back to the dealers because i had left something in my PX and lo and behold it was Fixed.:D although i didnt show my happiness, was no way i was leaving without a full tank of super unleaded for my troubles ;)

everything got sorted and within half hour i was on the way (with the full tank of super) and OMG! what a car, id forgotten since the test drive the speed of the thing! obviously not pushing it too hard as its a new engine. but its brilliant, and i cant resist winding down the window in tunnels to listen to the turbo and supercharger whining and whistling away!

since then ive done around 450 miles, and they were the best 450 miles ive ever driven! a few town journeys and a longish one to edenbridge with the girlfriend and its fantastic. i love the ease of which it pulls away, tried all the ways of changing gears, getting pretty good with the paddles now, couldnt resist a 'race' with an audi A3 TDI 140, needless to say there was only one winner there, all within the speed limit of course. at the same time though, its pretty frugal considering its a tight engine, as my fuelly sig says, 33.7mpg over the 450 miles, and on the long trip the missus managed to get 42mpg out of it, needless to say with my lead foot on the way there it was more like 35, which is still brilliant seeing as i couldnt resist a couple of cheeky overtakes ;)

cant think of much else to say at the moment, but jesus, whoever of you are still waiting, hope you get it soon because its brilliant!!

cheers Ash

i know what you mean, i only waited 9 weeks for mine and i was really dying to get it. I know someone else who has one on order and has to wait till november, he came in mine for a drive and he wants his now!

I've been tempted on a few occasions to take another one for a test drive in a different garage but have resisted....delivery day can't come quick enough now! :)

Haha! Again, it's posts like that that make me grin ear to ear. Cheers Ash, you've just re-ignited my excitement. Not going to sleep until it arrives (hopefully this week/next at the latest)...

CAN'T WAIT!!!!.......

nice one ash

picked mine up last Friday evening, all I can say is

did the dealer give you the MDI lead or does it "need to come from Skoda" like my dealer said :wonder:

My MDI was sitting in the Glovebox when i picked it up, works really well, the only problem is as Im using an Iphone, when receiving a text or call, email etc you get interference noise through the stereo.

i ended up with 2 midi cables, the one i asked for which was the usb one and when i opened up the small storage box above the glove box the ipod on was there as well. Tend to use the usb one as its much easier to manage the music and if i want to listen to music on my iphone i use the bluetooth. I will keep the ipod one in case i need to charge my iphone and saves me buying a car charger.

I thought that was the case too - looks like another trip to the dealers

TBH I have been a bit dissapointed with their lack of product knowledge

have you looked in the small storage box above the glove box, i didnot eveb know this storage box was there untill my brother was messing about and opened it up and the midi cable was in there.

yeah mate, no lead I am afraid

nice thought though

*edit* Just rang Skoda to check they where going to send the right lead and they said it should come from the dealer

They (Skoda) are going to ring the dealers now to clarify the situation and hopefully I should get a lead

It would have been easier to just buy one!

As another new owner and just to echo the comments from Ash.

I am really starting to enjoy this car, had a few problems with getting used to the DSG / no clutch etc and the DSG getting used to me, but after a few days and a few hundred miles its nothing but joy.

I really like the way, when in "full auto" the car reacts to the throtle. Its like there is a butler to attend to you.

"Sir would like to pull away gently in traffic?" no problem, accelerates and changes up thru the gears smothly and quickly to give you the best economy (I was in 4th yesterday by 20 mph or so!)

"is Sir in a hurry today?" - no problem, it hangs on to gears longer and gives you plenty of whoosh.

Yes you can catch the "butler" out under steady throttle and an approching hill, but hey, hes not infalable :-) a quick flick down on the paddle and you are done.

When you couple the "butler" to Cruise control things get really easy and relaxed - get to *cough* motorway speeds, set the cruise - brake for traffic - reset the cruise and accelarate back up to your set speed with gears changing up or down as required along the way - effortless and endlessly enjoyable.

Coming form a re-mapped mk1 vRS I did miss the slug of torque as you accelarate, change gear, more torque, change gear etc which feels great, where the mkII is much more subtle - it presses you into the seat and just holds you there. It almost feels slower but it very much is not!

Have to say this is the best analogy I've seen so far for DSG :)

tis a really good analogy of the DSG

the only problem I am having is with pulling away, you can either,

pootle away in 1st then boot it from 2nd on,

or scream away in 1st but its really juddery and the change from 1st to 2nd is violent.

anyone else had this problem?
