Insurance cost driving me crazy

Featured Replies

Got renewal through last week - increase to 600 quid from 350. Usually can phone them and beat them down. This time they won't budge.

Comparison sites seem to be around 450 then go up once I call them.

Is it the arb I put on recently? What's going on? Even if I don't mention that it's excessive.

I'm 38 with 8 years no claim and drive like my mum (sometimes). It's crazy.

Any advice from people out there?

Thanks.

we are with sky insurance and have been for a few years......very reasonable......give them a call

sorted mine with them today. Twenty pounds cheaper than comparison sites, and good extras and stuff like that. Mods allowed etc.

Insurance up 40% across the board basically, due to un-insured drivers and the injury compensation culture. Also depends on post code and age group obviously. Best I could get this year was £200 from First Alternative, Swiftcover wanted £350 (£100 more than previous year.)

I looked for ages and had similar quotes. Went with Aviva in the end. Their website has a quote system which gives the option of adding mods. I haven't got any at the moment and was quoted 279. Worth a try.

look on topcashback/quidco as car insurance you get upto £60 cash back, it is excellant for RAC/AA aswell, Also £100ish for a contract phone

Mine went up a fiver a month.

Give Liverpool Victoria or Privilege a shout.

Who are you insured with at the moment?

As said insurance post-code related and uninsured drivers rises go along way to help push-up premiums.

Adding normal rises in insurance premiums will generally see the whole age group range go steadily upwards.

You will have to shop around real hard and do as I do every year, to get the best deal to suit your requirements.

Uninsured drivers sould be dropped from a bridge onto the M1

Followed by blood sucking injury laywers grrrrr

Thanks for the replies, people. I'm with more than at the moment - very apt name it would appear.

I'll give a few of the suggestions a call tomorrow but I'm bracing myself for disappointment. Still, service cost today wasn't too bad and nothing wrong with car, so not all bad.

More Than - thats why its so expensive, they are better than most when paying out etc but they do charge high premiums.

I would suggest if your already not, joining briskoda then contact the insurance companies listed on the forum.

They give discounts for members and have really been competitive on price this year and thats after i searched the comparison sites, read up on moneysavingexpert.com etc.

Also it helps if you go back to an insurer and tell them how much the other companies quote is and if they can beat it...

Nice idea in principle, but they'd probably get hit by an uninsured driver and then make a huge personal injury claim...

Ok, daft question, is joining briskoda the same as joining the skoda owner's club? How do you do it?

The insurers aren't helping themselves either. Someone backed into the Spyder the other day. It's now been agreed other parties fault so am looking to get repair sorted ( only cracked bumper bit still £1200 at an approved repairer)

Anyway, I'm entitled to a like for like courtesy car at approx £200/day rental (prob for 5 days), but as I'm travelling so much at the mo, and have other cars, I offered to forego that if the could just arrange for car to be collected and dropped back when sorted -approx £150. Insurers weren't having any of it as outside their script and the car still drivable - go figure

Got a decent quote sky and went with them. More expensive than last year by a long way but cheaper than others I tried. Also, knew what they were on about. When I mentioned a rear anti-roll bar to other insurers they went into lock down mode and asked me if it contained a thermo-nuclear warhead or other silly questions. Kevin at sky didn't blink - has come across this sort of lethal weapon before and knew just how to deal with it.

My renewal with Privilege in March didn't go up, and I'd turned 37. Shop around and do the best you can is my only advice.

Basically, as well as claims and uninsured drivers etc., the insurance companies simply aren't making as much from their investing of your money (due to the economic downturn), so increase premiums to keep profits up.

Count yourself lucky, I'm paying £150 per month emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Try £1500 a year

I actually found MoreThan to be one of the cheapest (21, 0 no claims, 1 accident - write off) they also payout VERY well.

I'm with Adrian flux and can't fault them, renewal was up £30 from last year, tried phoning sky again to see if they could beat it but as usual was on hold for ages so sacked it off !!!

Im currently paying £55 a month with swift cover, just had my renewal through and they want £78... 40% extra as someone mentioned earlier - scandalous! I've done all the comparisons and various insurers and direct line came out the cheapest as i get a discount due to us having another car with them and me bring named on it. I'm 29 and have my 25yo gf as named driver... Been driving 11 years with 7yrs ncb, no claims or points and live in what I would class as a nice suburban area, I don't get how varied it is for people, as there's people younger and less experienced than me paying less! Gonna be worse I suppose when I upgrade to an Octy vrs!!!

Mine went up when i was using Virgin to £650 Fully comp so i did a bit of ringing around, i got insured with hastings direct in the end for the handsome sum of......£ 284.50 fully comp with RARB declared! Im 32 with 12 years no claims

Its a rip off...

I personally think premiums should be dependant on insurance groups

So say a 1.2 corsa woul cost £200

Fabia vrs £500

Golf r32 £800

(for everyone)

Shouldnt go on age / driving experience

Just looking for the Mk1 and it is stupid.

The post code areas are *******s its not the flipping 80's anymore! WN2 must be Beirut!!

SWMBO and me both driving ten years (10 years NCB and 9 years NCB plus 2years company car NCB)

Both have use of my company car doing 7000 miles a year

History of warm cars, Saxo VTR, Saxo VTS, Pug 306 GTI, Legacy B4 Twin Turbo x 2, Alfa 156 2.5 V6, Williams Clio, Octavia RS

1 SP30 for me 4 years ago no accidents

The majority want at least £1k Axa coming in at £520

Just looking for the Mk1 and it is stupid.

Definitely! When I moved from WA1 to WA2 (literally 1.5 miles or so difference) mine went up an extra fiver a month!
