decided to drive economically today to prove what can be done

Featured Replies

ok, my journey was from cleater moor, down to the coast, past whitehaven and into workington town center...

a combination of 30mph village, 40 mph main roads, 70mph dual carrigeway (and I had my roof sign on, so for several miles at 70mph, it was about as airodynamic as a brick!) then stop/start through workington town cwnter....

by driving economically (not being afraid to use hard throtrtle to get up to speed, and avoiding braking by backing off early, and using the paddles to engine brake where ness) I got this

fuel is a mix of shell v-power and BP ultimate...

Nice one!

And done 11k already!

Funnily enough, I play this game often on the way into work, did it today (and regularly do) and got 76.2mpg, mixture of traffic, A roads and motorway - over 26 miles - very impressed!

I wonder who on here has got the best economy on a trip? (I know the Grrenline is capable of over 85 mpg on a good run!)

Oh, fuel is V-Power......

I find its improved massively since the miles have gone on, I would never have been able to crack 50mpg when it only had 4-5000 miles on it. I'll never get near you mark I guys though! lol...

The best I got on my 42 mile commute was 93.1mpg in the Greenline II.

Still an impressive figure from a performance petrol though.

:pLOL! Love it! Looking forward to finally driving a MKII, not had that experience yet - just love the economy and power I already have!

Your playing it wrong. I play the see how low the mpg will go, its way more fun lol.

Im happy with my fuel economy already with only 3000 on the clock so if it improves even more, that'll be a result

good effort :) maybe helped a little by the map too

I found my tyre pressures on the front were too high - dropped them and runs I was getting high 30's- I did 44 this morning.

Travelled from Whitehaven to Newcastle yesterday in my VRS, part of it over the old roman road along Hadrian’s Wall. Then went up to Holy Island today before coming back to Whitehaven. 325.5 miles of mixed A and B roads, dual carriage way and city driving with a little spirited overtaking now and there :D . Averaged 45.6 mpg and the car has only done 1600 miles now so may get better.

Very impressive

Thats very good the best i`ve had is 42.3 mpg but there is only 1400 miles on the clook

I have managed to get it up to the 80's on the way from the petrol station to the house.

But thats down hill all the way and only about half a mile

cracking road that, I often do it on blues driving the ambulance for emergancy transferes to newcastle! good effort, proves the "blurb" saying 45 mpg on a normal drive works

I couldn't get more than that at 1400 miles either... it will loosen up (and get faster , as well as more economilcal! )

lol... yup you can do that, but thats cheating!

Nice one Dave

On our last family trip out we took my car and my Dads new Octy 1.4TSI (the 122bhp one)

Both 4 up, aircon running, Carlisle to Ravenglass. The Octy managed 43mpg and I got 46mpg. The Octy is still brand new and my Furby has 7k on the clock.

Going back was better, 45mpg and 47mpg respectively. More than enough power in each car to pull a full load without any problem at all, hell we were the only ones overtaking :giggle:

We were quite pleased with that.

Good to see these kinds of figures though, I could live with the fuel costs of a vRS :D

Nice going, i've had 44mpg with 250 miles on the clock and recently with 500 miles on the clock showing 45mpg.

Thats very good the best i`ve had is 42.3 mpg but there is only 1400 miles on the clook

Best I've got is 26 mpg, mind its only got 200 miles on it !

that impressive. I regularly get 44mpg and only got 800 miles on it. Just depends how you drive it as especially with the windows down its hard not to nail it as it sounds so nice as the supercharger kicks it

Lived in Whitehaven and worked in Cleator Moor 20 years ago- downhill from the Moor to coast, then up and down- what was your milage coming back?- might also get better mpg using the back road out of Hensigham

I think I had 37 or 38 once and I was really trying. That was with ~750 on the clock.

The temptation is just too great to put your foot down!

yeah it was in the high 60's downhill to the coast, (just proves the engine is not using fuel on overrun) it was up the hill on the new 70mph dual carrageway (with my roof sign on!) that brought it down with a bump..... (and the stop starting in workington town...)

I find the back road a bit harder to get good fuel economy on, because I start to have fun, an consequently start going quicker and using more power and lots of brakes to enjoy the corners!

motorways I find hardest to get good mpg, following people on A-roads, general 50-60 mph I can get into the 50's easy, but at 70mph, when the wind resistance starts, and the revs rise (if I had a boost gage for the turbo, I bet it would be gently forcing in fuel) I cannot get above 44mpg, and that is being patient with people and sticking ridgidly to an indicated 70 (a real 67ish mph according to GPS) ... if I go faster (as I start to get frustrated with people!) it drops into the 30's...... funny how (if you are on a private road) an indicated 90 is no better on fuel than an indicated 100+ ! but i rarely get to drive on racetracks, so I guess this doesn't matter :smirk:

edit: going out again now, lets see what I can do today, heading into the north lakes...

This is so true.

However, I didn't by a 180bhp vRS to worry about economy! :D

Luckily I'm not doing many miles any more and me and my wife can afford to run two petrol cars.

Just as well, she's never had a Diesel! Oh, and her DS3 is only returning mid 30's mpg..........

Anyone got any ideas how accurate the indicated mpg's are ?? I used to get 30mpg out of my Astra 1.6t on the urban semi-crawl into work..the Fabia does close to 40..not much use if this is highly optimistic though !!

They vary from car to car, the original Fabia 1 I had was only about 2% out, the second was about 5% and the current Roomie is about 8%... All optimistic of course! ;)
