Car damaged and third party doesn't want to know.....

Featured Replies

Havent read all this thread and Im no good at giving insurance advice.

However I payed £60 for two complete doors in a good condition from a member breaking a car on here.

So thats anoter option if you choose not to go through the insurers.

If you've reported this to the police Bob then they will surely look into it? I work as a Merseyside bobby and, if I'm honest, traffic files aren't the most stimulating things in the world to complete, but you have a clear case of another driver failing to stop following a collision here plus a witness (who I assume is willing to provide a statement?) so if you don't get any joy then I'd make a complaint at your local station. Best of luck getting it resolved.

not read all this but isnt this classed as hit and run or an offence to leave a scene of an accident??

Harsh beans.

Personally, I'd go and have some stern words with the 'dozy bint', but don't get angry. Be reasonable, and explain you have witness, etc.

If she out and out denies it, the only route I can see is through police / insurance company. Back when I used to work in insurance (over 3 years ago now, but was there for 10 years), there was typically 0% loading on the policy for a non-fault claim if all costs were recovered off the third party (irrespective of age), however others here seem to say otherwise. Bashing a few quotes through Go.Confused.Meerkat.com would easily confirm this (using dummy details of course!).

Absolutely push the police - they're here to police the law right  ? AC10 - Failing to stop after an accident; 5-10 points. Ask them to confirm she even has insurance too, really try to get them on your side & things might just fall into place.

If all else fails, I'd get a sink plunger and see if I could pop the dent out, then t-cut it if you choose not to persue it through the official sources.

It's a crazy world we live in, where the honest victims seem to be the ones penalised for other parties stupid actions.

Best of luck for a happy resolution.

GOOD ADVICE

I had not used my car over the weekend, and my daughter visiting said what happend to your car dad,

Went to look and the front was smashed in

A neighbour came out and said it was the Landlord of the house at the end collecting rent Reversed his landrover into me, got out and looked at the damage and appeared to be writing a note, she did not take the reg number

The note was the blank piece of paper under the window wiper

Called the police, who came within an hour

THEY then Breathalized ME, asked to see all my documents, and advised nothing could be done as no reg number taken even though we new the name of the Landlord and the details except for reg number of the car he drove

Being a fool and thinking Fully Comp insurance meant we all put into a pot and when someone is unfortunate enough to claim they paid out

OH OH No, it is more like a loan for repairs that you pay back at 200% interest over the next five years

If I had known then what I know now I would never have claimed but taken a 30% loan shark rates loan out and paid for it myself

Even if you go to a different insurer you have to declare a no fault claim which is classed as a your fault claim. lose your NCB and pay higher premiums for five years about five times the cost of the repair in my case

Insurance companies and Rupert Murdochs NOW phone hackers must sleep in the same bed of scum

You could choose to not buy the NOW you can not choose not to buy insurance

Whilst it may not affect NCB, you will get hammered for the next 5 years of premiums as you MUST declare even a non fault accident. The reason being is that you are now an increased risk in their eyes, as you have already had to claim for accident repairs even off of another insurer. The text usuall reads "Have you ever been involved in any Accident during the last 5 years", to which the answer is Yes as you have been and claimed from another insurer. Result will be something like a 25% increase in premium, even though you have retained NCB. How do I know, been there done that in the past.

The person who hit the car, only needs to deny it and have no damage to their car. At that point the witness statement is worthless even if it was them that hit as there is no evidence. At that point the OP insurers will have to pay out as a claim on them affecting NCB resulting in an even higher premium.

Good advice.

You also need to remember that even if you have a no fault claim, your premium may go up. Insurance companies learn a lot about you when you make a claim and this 'new' information may show you to be a higher insurance risk. In this case, is OP's GF's house in a higher risk area.

A mate of mine was bumped at a secure car park where he parked for work. The other driver worked for same firm, so no argument about facts. He knew it wasn't his fault so he let his insurance company handle it - his insurance doubled.

When he queried this he was just told that 'new information had affected his risk profile'. His home address is in an 'A' insurance area but he worked on the edge of an 'E' rated area.

Wait a few months, and cause equivalent/worse damage to their car

Even though you hadn't been driving? What did they plan to do you for if you tested positive? Sorry but the Police seem to be manned by a big bunch of idiots.

I think they thought I had been driving and hit someone/something

They felt the bonnet and engine for heat etc

and I was the guilty party

I knew who guilty party was, and checked on his next visit, there was my Yellow VRS paint on his towbar AND bumper

I sorted it after he got his brand new 4x4

Nice work. Is that what they mean by Carma??? :giggle::giggle::giggle:

£350 is not a lot of money but it's not the point, if it's was my car my I would persist until they paid up, why shouldn't we pursue it, if it was my car I'd be around at there house, couldn't you threaten them with the police you should be able to class it as perverting the course of justice and that's a crime, that may get them giving you there details
