Going to pick up an 05' VRS tomorrow!

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I can't wait for tomorrow, driving all the way up to sunny Scotland to pick up a mint MK1 Octy VRS with 40k mileage! Really can't wait, I've wanted one for ages. This ones standard apart from a Celtic Tuning Remap.

Theirs not much scarier than a 22 year old with a VRS! :D

Oh, and now I can officially talk about Skoda's on this forum and actually hold some weight!

Its due a cambelt, so that's the first thing, but is there any mods, tweaks or changes that you guys would recommend doing straight away. Not in-terms of power but in reliability?

Looking forward to owning a newer car... The youngest car that I've owned is a MK2 Golf GTI!

Talk soon!

Marc

Get a rarb fitted, amazing difference!

will do! what's the benefit of an updated dogmount?

Good Luck.

Friend of mine just bought an 05 I used to own 18 months ago, I drove it home for her last night and it was still a great car, hope your's will be too.

Snap, once I've finished this brew I'm going to pick up my 05 vRS.

Not got as far to travel tho!

40k! on a 05 that's not done much work has it.

Fit a new water pump with the cambelt and use a genuine kit.

and a new hydraulic tensioner for peace of mind

I bought my vrs when I was 22 good times!!! Best of luck it's a car u will seriously love. Enjoy

stops wheel hop, and helps put traction down, good tyres are required to aid this

I bought my last one when I was 22 too. :D

Dogbone mount makes a big difference and lets you get away with more aggressive launches. Might be worth checking the rubber bushes on the front wishbones and ARB, as they can deteriorate. Should be OK yet on an 05 with that mileage.

Also, as andy said, clean the throttle body. It gets gummed up and can cause rough idling.

Well done on your purchase. You will be very happy with it. These cars are still great cars even against more modern motors. I had mine over 4 years which if folks know me is amazing and a testament to the car. My advise is before you start modding, get to know the car and then work on improving it. As trust me once you start you won't stop.

just come back from falkirk, was a fantastic drive! the handling is real tight, feels like a new car! Goes like a bloody rocket! I'll look into the dogmount sometime! off to book it into the local garage for a cambelt, tensioner and waterpump.

Got mine home this after and have just had me shower after doing cambelt and pump.

No paperwork evidence of it EVER having been done - 1st owner up to 35k and 2 years and the guy I bought it from said he'd never "got round to it."

Strange as he's the sort of guy who has changed the oil every 10k!?.

Anyways, got it to bits and the belt, pulleys and pump looked as they could have done another 120k!

Hey ho, peace of mind for the next 60k

its every 60k or 4 years, which ever comes first. mines never had its done either!

the only negative about my car is the white interior, its filth! im guessin I need a wet vac? anybody recommend someone for doing it in the north west for a decient price?

Can't remember the company name but in my old vrs I just got a local mobile valeting company to come do was only about £50 and they did carpets and mats too

Try using bi carbonate of soda in warm water and clean the seats with a cloth. Mine came up like new after i done it.

Vanish and a damp cloth with plenty of elbow grease

Agree, white /light grey carpet is a nightmre. mine was always dirty(what with kids).I swapped mine out for a black VW Bora Carpet. Much better now

Least im not the only "young'en" with a octy vRS.

Enjoy it. Mines just turned over 60k and still drives like new.

Welcome to the Vrs club

" Goes like a bloody rocket" I had the same thought when I took mine for a test drive before i bought it, they are bloody brilliant cars so very understated.

My first mod was a rear arb (as has been suggested in previous posts one of the most noticable improvements to its handling).

The problem with modding tho is once you start its a slippery slope, but never the less very rewarding to do.

Good luck

Yeah I'd really like a panel filter, turbo intake pipe and a proper remap from R-Tech. I hear Celtic Maps aren't the best?

cannot go wrong there nick at r-tech is prob the best mapper out there for the 1.8t by far!!!

if you spk to him im sure if you go down there they put a pipercross panel filter in F.o.c as part of the cost of remap ( all his maps are custom)

dont need a turbo intake pipe makes minute difference save the £ for some decent coilovers
