4x4 stuck up snowden

Featured Replies

down in Somerset at the mo and the BBC news has been obsessed all day about a guy from cheltenham who drove a frontera up snowden but didn't make it to the top. Its dumped alongside the railway and there are questions about how to get it down. Made me wonder if a yeti could make it all the way to the top, I would imagine it would (its illegal to drive up snowden though apparently!).

I would have thought Vauxhall should be quite pleased the frontera got so far!

Anyone fancy driving it back down?

Probably trying to be eco-friendly and not leave any more tyre marks.

If it got up there, it'd get down much easier.

Yes seen the news article; the bit he's stuck at from memory is quite narrow with loose rocks etc. Would think it possible to get a proper swb landy up there albeit rather dangerous. Complete fruit loop to try with a Frontara.

Interesting to note the thing has all the bling bull bars and lights; probably one of these know it all 4x4'ers that hasn't really got a clue.

May have to get Yeti (the railway engine) to drag it down :giggle:

But a few tyre marks are better that the exhaust from a Helicopter

Looks like he has given himself up.

What an idiot, especially in the camouflage outfit.

Hope it doesn't encourage others to do the same trick!

Getting to the top of Snowdon was on my things I want to achieve list too, but I went up on the train.

Would have been fun to try it in the yeti though.

Well, I expect it is BIG news in Wales..........

Bill the MORON for it's recovery is the best thing to do emoticon-0120-doh.gif

That will teach him not to be so selfish and stupid.

Norfolk born and bred, worked in London now in Hertfordshire-not sure why you have such a rude reaction towards the people who mainly pay for various celts?......

Sounds like the sort of ****** who thinks Clarkson is being serious- and possibly inspired by JC's idiotic stunt a few years ago in NW Scotland.

Now, now children!

Play nicely or you'll be sent to your rooms :dull:

He bought a Frontera - what more evidence do you need?

Just what I was thinking.

When I went to pay and play days in the Defender the Fronteras used to park up and watch most of the time...

Exactly, it's a V@*xh@11 Fr0nt*r@ and not a 4x4. Personally, I wouldn't drive a Fr0nt*r@ across my front garden, never mind up a hill like "Mount" Snowdon.

Now, now children!

sorry he started it!, ;) mainly pay what about all the villages and farmsteads flooded so you southerners can water your bloody dahlias :(

Cover it in petrol and blow it up. It's only a Frontera, no loss to the world, and probably ecologically more sound than getting a helicopter to pick it up.

I mountainbiked up there in midwinter some years ago (Feb 2002) with a group of chums for an article in Singletrack magazine( Issue 5).

We set off from Llanberis at 0530 in pitch black and ran into a total white out as we crossed on the bridleway under the railway. We were well equipped with GPS, radios etc., and pressed on to the summit. The old cafe was a solid block of sheet ice with 4" of snow, but we were met by a couple of guys who'd bivvy'd up there - cuddling up to their collie dog for warmth!

A few summit snaps, tots of 'warming fluid' all round and a super quick (if sketchy at times because of the snow/ice) descent and we were in Pete's Cafe for breakfast!

2.5 hours up 20 minutes down!

Only mishap was one rider whose front wheel washed out on the wet cattle grid at the entrance to the car park!

Made a cracking article though!

360 mile round trip for a 12 mile ride

Home in time for coffee!

I was 56 at the time...

Why cycle up 'n' down what would have happened if one of your team came of and god forbid broken a limb!, a send out the rescue team and risk there lives just so that you can have a jolly, absolute silliness and the cost of helicopter would have come from the pockets of us people who live in the principality bad enough in summer but in winter , someone's got too much time on there handsemoticon-0112-wondering.gifemoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Oh, give over - this was a serious planned expedition, properly supported by very experienced riders and entirely self supported.

Where would Wales be without it's tourism?

http://en.wikipedia....ourism_in_Wales

...and BTW, you need to improve your English - their not there, off not of - etc. - and FYI the RAF Rescue service is not funded exclusively by the Welsh!

Issue closed as far as I'm concerned - I won't be commenting further.
