I have posted this tread on the Seat Cupra site to try and get overall opinon on the tow cars, here goes.....

I really like the look of Leon (Cupra TDI or FR TDI) however my brain and wallet is saying the Fabia VRS is a very good buy.

Im not saying I dont like the Fabia, its a nice looking car IMO but I really like the Leon, but is it worth

They are quite different cars size and power wise so whats you plans for the car? What do you need?

I need a reliable car to get me to work and back, I have a small family (17 month old daughter) I found the Mk3 Golf was a good size not too big or small.

Are the Leon's more thisty on ther derv?

I dont think the Leon's are more thirsty when run in.

But if you want MK3 Golf size then the Leon would be the better bet, getting a buggy for example in the Fabia doesnt leave alot of room for anything else.

But perosnally I'd get a 2.0 TDi Octavia for that money.

Fabia is the same size as the Ibiza and Polo.

I agree that with a small family the Leon is a much better bet. The Fabia is pretty tight on space being a small car. I love mine to bits, but if I had a family I would certainly be looking to change for a Leon or Octavia.

Right best get looking out for a 2nd hand Leon TDI 150. does anyone know the insurance group?

I swapped a 20VT Leon Cupra for the Fabia, the main reason being the running costs. The Leon is a very good looking car and is well equipped for the money.

The only problem is you may find it hard to find a 2nd hand one outside the dealer network and as the TDI is a quite a new model (was launched about 18 months ago) 2nd hand prices are still quite strong, but if you can find one you won't be disappointed.

I would also consider a Octavia... its golf sized, but with a bigger boot. the Octy II will out handle a Sporty leon due to the new golf chassis. or a Octy L&K are cheap too.

Just to add my 2c, I'd definitely have a look at both cars before you decide. I test drove both before buying the Furby. IMO there was no discernable extra perfromance from the Leon and the build quality was poorer - it felt flimsy and had a few rattles. The Furby on the other hand felt just as fast, has better visibilty and feels much better screwed together. Try before you buy, y'know?

And the Fabia has a supprising amount of space in it certainly more than my Clio had, though kids and those seats dont mix

Yes... I would say they are about even on the performance.. the 150 engine has more lag, so is actually slower in real world driving. and any extra performance the engine does have would probably be cancelled out by the weight difference.

Ive also driven both and yes, the build quality in the leon was naff, but its a bigger car.. and the ride quality is better

Can the Roof Box be installed on a Fabia VRS?

This would help on Holidays etc.

The Fabia has virtually the same legroom as the Leon/Mk1 Octy/old Golf and it's only a couple of inches narrower.

The Fabia's downside is boot space, it maybe as big as small family car inside but it's boot is supermini size.

If you can live with the boot space then a Fabia would be OK if not then look at the Leon or Octy.

I have the missues, and 12 and 6 year old daughters........there IS more room in my furby than in the previous mk3 AND 4 Golfs. Easy big enough.

If you need boot space, then it HAS to be Octy, the rest of the choices it has to be Furby.

Granted IF boot space is important then consider others (although the furby STILL isn't all that small) However, the driver/passenger space is definately roomy enough.

Skoda sell roof rails for the fabia, so presumably a box would fit to those?

why not get a fabia 1.9 tdi combi and chip it! then slap on a kit and lower it! combi vRS sorted:D

My friend works for VW. If he orders a part for a VW then it is X amount of Pounds. He can order the same part for an Audi, Skoda or Seat too, with the same part number but depending on what car he orders it for determines the price. Supid I know but true.
