Should I be running my vrs on V Power diesel?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just recently bought a Fabia VRS, it's completely standard.

45.000 Miles & paid £5,300 for it.

Should I be running it on the V Power Diesel? or just on standard diesel?

I've been told that running a turbo or supercharged car on normal fuel can block up the turbo/S.C'ged sensor ? What do you guys think about it?

Heres a photo of the car..

Standard diesel's fine - mine's usually on Tesco...

I only run mine on V power. But this is mainly because it helps it smoke a bit less due to the power output after heavy tweaking. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

It's not a high tech engine so I don't believe it needs it.

There may be a placebo effect, but I doubt if it makes any difference and V Power diesel wasn't even around when the car was developed.

Just my 2p.

Ok, is it a good idea maybe once a month to throw in a tank of super diesel or not?

Also If i do run it on V Power Diesel, can i go back to normal diesel or will it give a bad side effect?

I dont bother with Super diesel at the moment, but at the same time I dont but supermarket stuff in either. Just decent Shell/BP stuff will be fine

Mine goes for over a month on a tank full! :)

Wow thats good going! I can push it only for two weeks haha

I commute about 24k a year and tried various fuels over several tankfuls to see if there's any difference. I'm running a standard map and found regular Shell diesel to give the best MPG. I did fill up with V-Power Diesel and noticed no difference in MPG or performance, other than it sounding a bit quieter.

In a nut shell.

V Power

BP Ultimate

YES!!! X1000000

I did 45.77mpg over 2.5k miles on Vpower diesel before I blew my manifold and since the car is back with me again, I've done 46.33mpg over 2.2k miles on (usually) tesco boggo diesel - both with millers fuel additive. I have also not noticed any performance differences in the fuels either, which is why I am saving my 8p a litre premium and buying the normal stuff....

I've read bad reviews from vpower diesel, I'm using bp ultimate as it gets better reviews, prob does nothing different to normal diesel but my baby only gets the best :-p

P.s I once saw an BP fuel tanker delivering fuel to an ASDA petrol station! Lol

That's what I don't like about supermarket fuel. One batch could be from bp, another from somewhere ****e. It's a bit hit and miss from what I can gather. BP regular does me fine. Not tried shell for a long time after having a massive bust up with the local garage, they wouldn't open the pump with v power on. Knobs lol

The only difference I find when using V-power is my wallet is a bit more lighter!

I don't really find any difference in performance or economy, I only use it when I get offers from shell to gain extra bonus points by filling so many times in 1 month.

However you are right, the new vRS has to use V-power (98 octane+) to gain the full 180bhp. It has been tuned to use it, you can use 95 but you will loose performance.

I find V power to make the engine sound a little smoother, and run a little less smokey.

Is it worth it? Possibly, I'd certainly be running on it if I was trying to sell a diesel car

Long and short of it... it makes no difference.

If you can afford the extra outlay, knock yourself out.

I think the only difference is a marginally higher cetaine [sp?] rating and has some detergents to clean the inners of your engine, but someone can correct me here if I'm wrong.

Standard diesel should be fine with it (as in, it's not "required"). Shell's V-Power has extra detergents, and a corrosion inhibitor in it. It might have a cetane-booster in it too - I'm not sure (there's no mention of it in Shell's literature).

Personally, I use V-Power as I don't do that many miles each year, and most of my driving is short(ish) gentle trips to and from work, so I'm hoping as it's supposed to burn cleaner, it will help keep the engine systems cleaner, and help reduce any smokiness (day-to-day I don't push it hard enough for it to smoke - it's only really when doing a clean-out or taking an MOT!).

i just use the standard shell fuel save diesel with a shot of millers fuel additive in it.

I use standard Morrison's fuel...

The car is the daily hack. I put the more expensive fuel in the 2 seater sportscar

I only use bp ultimate, as wel As my millers additive, runs alot smoother quieter and just nicer to drive in my opinion especially in 1st and2nd it's alot smoother. V power does have a marginal increase in cetane but bp ultimate has at least 5 extra cetane number aswel as the detergents as said above. Ive run v power myself but the car smoked alot more so I use bp.

I feel it's worth running for the extra 5p a litre the effects have been proven so that's all the confirmation I need.

I use standard Morrison's fuel...

How do you find it? Thats the one place I avoid, a fair few people i know have had issues with their diesel. Possible coincidence tho

Matt,

no difference at all. Nothing wrong with it and the car runs fine with it.

Morrison s tends to be the cheapest in my area (Wolvo)

my Ibiza generally gets regular Shell or Tesco diesel depending on if I need fuel near work or home, never noticed any difference between the two. can't say I've seen a difference when I've used the likes of vPower, Ultimate or Excellium either

I use Vpower, as I think the extra stuff they put in might benefit the engine in the long run. I'm not sure it has any effect on power or fuel economy though, certainly not noticeable. I don't think it has the same effect as the petrol version for performance cars.

I have a Shell loyalty card set to give me airmiles, and Vpower gives trebble points over standard diesel. Whether this is a false economy or not, I don't know, but I get airmiles from the credit card I use to buy it too, so I'm hoping at some stage I get the warm fuzzy glow of being able to fly somewhere for "free" eventually! :)

I'm a loooong time BP ultimate user.

I've tried V power (for 2 tanks, to let the ECU adapt).. I didn't find it as smooth as BP.

Thing is, at 1st, I found Ultimate a bit odd, almost too smooth, 2nd gear felt drama-less and it took me a little while to work out that was because it was so much smoother, and after that moment I didn't wanna use anything but.

I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I'm convinced it helps with motorway manoeuvres as well!.. just a teeny bit more eager, but it inspires more confidence.

And of course, the cleaning additives they put in keep it smoother for longer. I've run 3 tanks of plain fuel over 3 years and each time I've been itching to get back onto Ultimate due to noticing the rougher acceleration. You get used to the crispness.
