Mmm low MPG issue!

Featured Replies

Ok this month I thought I would monitor my fuel just ran into red so here are the numbers.

Pence per litre.......£1.36 (well £135.9 but for ease rounded up)

Tank of fuel cost.....£55.00 (exactly as I lifted nossel slightly)

Litres in the tank....40.44

Gallon in the tank....8.89

Miles to a tank.......320 :(

MPG...................36

MPL...................7.91 (miles per litre)

Pence per mile........17p

Depressing as it appears I must have an issue right?!

I would say so. I don't think I've had less than 450 miles out of a full tank since I bought mine.

36mpg seems real low, unless you're in stop start traffic a lot?

That's about the only thing that I can do to kill my MPG. Even on a properly hard run it will still return 40+

Went on a Heathrow run the other day. 300 mile round trip, 70mph on c/c pretty much all the way, 61mpg shown on the trip computer, 60.4 calculated :)

I can't manage that low a number even if I try. Other than relatively short back roads trips involving little sympathy. Involve a motorway and I can't achieve less than 40 and feel moderately confident of retaing my licence!

So yeah, I think you may have an issue... Have you ever changed the air filter, has the cambelt been done recently? Other than that, maybe try the cage mod and listen for any boost leaks. After that it's off to a friendly VAG independent to see if there are any obvious issues IMO.

I don't think there is an issue after just speaking with a friend. Basically I only do short distances to and from work what 2.5 miles?! And it is pretty much stop start as there is three sets of lights and two round abouts. I think its normal as the car isnt really getting upto temp. I have been on a few runs and seen more than 60mpg.

I have rushed into buying a diesel thinking i would get good mpg and not actually considering my situation.

No matter what you drive, stop start and short runs will pretty much always result in a low MPG.

But if im always gonna get that sort of mpg from the fabia i may aswell get a leon cupra r or ibiza cupra r as it would be quicker, cheaper to fill and probably return the same mpg whilst been cheaper per litre of fuel.

Tankful to tankful mine does around 45mpg / or roughly 10 miles per litre from the car being new.

Full range of driving conditions from flat-out and pedal-to-the-metal acceleration, to driving slower and more economically.

36 mpg is extremely low, and codes should be checked-out, at the very minimum.

Chances of u getting 36mpg on short journeys is very doubtful I dont even think you would get tht at a cruise on the motorway from a 1.8t

Sounds normal given how short your daily run is. And As above, a 1.8t would get no where near 36mpg on the same run lol.

Should have bought a push bike.

Should have bought a push bike.

Lol!! Although why swap when you just brought it?! Surely should of thought about that before jumping in? :S

My dad recently brought a brand new honda jazz hybrid 1.3. That even in the town driving and stop starts returns 65mpg. We went on a motorway run around 130 miles each way to collect my Fabia and we were averaging 69mpg!

As with many things in life...

Jump in - Have a play...

...Jump out with grin on face...

...And end up paying a lot of money as a result.

What about the Air Filter, is it new? if not get a new one ASAP, that would be my first call.

DB.

To be fair, i think you'd probably struggle to get 20mpg or thereabouts if u did the same journey in a cupra
