Cleaning cloths

Featured Replies

Anyone got recommendations for cleaning cloths? I will be applying stage 1 and 2 Diamondbrite. I have plenty of old rags (cotton, towelling etc). Are these OK for applying/polishing or are special cloths preferable? I normally finish with a chamois leather but I have been impressed by an Autoglym imitation chamois. Any other recommendations here?

Hi Mike

I went down this route of Diamondbrite and was thoroughly impressed - now use the conserver with it every weekend. I've stopped using chamies and now use only microfibre cloths on the car. This is because the Black Magic paintwork is a nightmare with showing scratches.

I use microfibre cloths too with Swissol. They polish well, don't leave scratches or swirls, and are easy to wash.

I had Diamondbrite applied when I took delivery of my present Fabia, 3 years ago. I am also impressed. I have the dark blue metallic paint and apply the conserver perhaps once every two months. Otherwise, an ordinary shampoo - or even a rinse - works fine between conserver applications. On the new car, I am going to apply it myself. What cloths did you use for applying/polishing?

I was relatively happy with my chamois until I tried the imitation chamois. It seems to smear less and was easier to clean. Could this have been a 'microfibre' cloth?

One thing I also need to check is cleaning the windows. There appears to be something like condensation marks, or runs, on the side windows. One can only see it at an angle when it is slightly wet. I cannot seem to get it off and wondered if a special cloth would do it.

Do you apply Stage 1 to the alloys, or do you use something special?

Yeh use microfire cloths for applying and buffing = works a treat. I applied Diamondbrite to the paintwork, door shuts, inside boot and inside paintwork under the bonnet. have since changed my alloys, and didn't use it on the original wheels. A good point though about the Stage 1&2 on the wheels - think I might go and do that; just washed the car!! Not sure what the issue is with your condensation. Is it on the inside then? Again I use microfibres on all the glass.

Micro fibre works for me too!

Go to Halfords, and get a few of their micofibre cloths packs...3 per pack for around

It says on the packets that conditioner is not to be used when washing them. I don't know why that is. It makes me wonder if any other compound (wax, Diamondbrite etc) clogs them up. But, at

Try "Minkies", a superb cloth for polishing paintwork and boots, always used to use them on by boots with Parade gloss and Bulls Blood.
