Im out of the UK for 7 months from May-Dec so have changed my mod plans for the minute.

The TBE should be getting fitted in the first week of February provided they have a space in their schedule, then once thats fitted ill be getting my map changed to a different vendor. REVO are currently my choice after weighing up the pros and cons of each, but still in the running are APR and custom maps from MRC Tuning and Jabbasport(depending on what they can offer)

Decided to wait until after the TBE is fitted for the RE-remap as there will no doubt be a fairly large difference in the exhaust gas temperatures and flow characteristics between my current decat OEM downpipe and the planned performance downpipe with sports cat, so id like the new map to be written around the exact mods my car will be running.

I then wont touch the car until December at which point ill be throwing around £2k at it, to get the chassis and brakes sorted in one lump. Im thinking:

poly bushes front and rear

256mm rear brake upgrade

312mm brembo 4 pot front brake kit

Front and rear ARBs ( Hopefully both will be available by then)

Bilstein PSS10 B16 coilovers or H&R equivalent.

Custom top mounts

So far ive held out with the chassis and brake kits to see what other options pop up as its still quite a new market for suspension on this chassis.

Like the sound of the plans mate

Sounds like a proper job, wheres the posting or is it hush hush, take care wherever it is Simon

A few recent changes.

I have remove the Forge intake off of my car and........its made absolutely no difference to the output of the car at all. £185 of useless Forge Branded rubbish.  Bring on the ITG Maxogen is what i say.

Currently ive been relegated to a 2.0TDI 140ps VW Passat and its CRAP.  Nothing below 2000rpm, nothing after 4000rpm and power seems to notably drop off after 3000rpm.  Hate the engine with a passion, but most of all, I absolutely hate having a manual.  I dont actually think i would buy a manual again now, because everytime i drive one, it irratates me :S:scared:  Really not a fan of diesels at all.  It only seems to be asbout 7-9mpg better than my Fabia on the same routes.  Expected more tbh, although the Jetta does weigh about 500kg more

Had my Shark Stage 2 map removed from my car.  Logging the car showed that the requested boost was over 2 bar from 1700-6000rpm which is obviously not achievable meaning my turbo is working at its absolute maximum everytime im on WOT trying to make this boost because it cannot possibly achieve that output.  Max boost the turbo can run on is around 1.6Bar, which coincidently is what my car was running at with my waste gate at 100% the entire time because its still 0.5Bar below the requested :S  That might go to explain the heat issues i had back along and the random plumes of white smoke i get periodically.  Good job that i got the pace intercooler and radiator fitted a few k ago.  Might well have saved something getting bent although i have it in my head that the turbo could already be damaged, so a turbo rebuild might be on the cards for peace of mind, so i might just throw in a 1.8T K04-001 compressor wheel whilst im doing that.

Car made 211hp/270lbft @ 1.6Bar with the shark Stage 2 map before Skoda reverted the car to stock with the latest ECU update.  Figures are good, midrange is good if a little bumpy. (other dynos dont show those humps, but they were before the intercooler).  Longevity might not be though especially once i fit a better larger intake and water methanol.

Jabbasport now have my car (hence the Passat courtesy car :S ) and they are doing a full custom map on my car.  The plan is to get about 10Hp+ over this output(more if safely possible) but with less boost and less chance of me spitting the turbo out the exhaust pipe.

Decided to go with Jabba for a full custom job over REVO and APR in the end.  I was very near to getting REVO installed, i was offered a baragin price for changing to them, but they would not be offering anything further than stage 2 in the future.  APR were a pain in the ass when it came to information or replying to messages.   Jabba on the other hand were happy to write the map to exactly how i wanted it to be done, and are able to provide further work with software for a hybrid turbo in the future.

And they are changing my throttle map to a 1:1 ratio (like the REVO linear map) because at 3/4 depression on the accelerator pedal the throttle angle jumps from 75% to 100% which is really frustrating on trackdays on fast sweeping corners.

Roll on wednesday, not sure how they are getting on, but hoping to hear back soon....

interesting...

Does sound good. B)

I have a lot of faith in Jabbasport now I've used my car in anger a few times.

Glad I chose them to build it up.

The first thing I've noticed is when you go to othet tuners you hand over your keys and then get given back a car set up the way they want it. Jabba were very keen to know where I felt weakness's were, tractability, where I wanted the power, what sort of power I was after, how the last map felt, any issues with heat......This is how we highlighted the throttle issue I mentioned above.

I drove off feeling quite content, I'm hoping for some nice results. I imagine ill be loosing a little bit of midrange which was VERY strong once the boost is lowered but ill have a bit more turbo and clutch longevity, so not an issue.

Jabba are very good as I've had work done by them before. Should be a nicely sorted motor  Though Im still waiting to take my car to BCS for my 3" TBE in two weeks time. Ive just taken all the extras off my car apart from the Autotech HPFP, SFS boost hoses and gone back to the OE engine cover / PCV valve, as I find it drives better and is faster / smoother on the road as VW designed it. The joys of modifying :giggle:

Hoping to book tomorrow. :) Car should be up and running shipshape by then although still nothing about a hybrid turbo for me.

The good news is because i had the Shark map dyno'd first at Jabba before getting it reset to stock mode at Wings Skoda it means i can compare both the new Jabbasport custom map, the removed Shark Performance Stage 2 map and the newest ECU update stock map all on the same set of dyno graphs.

Nice and cold in the morning for the stock run, and jabbas roller putting out spot on figures for a stock car.  BUT take into account my car is running the downpipe and intercooler so id imagine if anything its underreading a little, but i can deal with under reading :giggle:

180Hp and 250NM.

stock%2Bmap%2Bat%2BJabba%2BAFR.png

I asked if Jabba could add on the shark St2 graph onto the stock graph when they were done on seperate days, the good news is YES

green is stock.  Red and blue are the Shark Performance Stage 2.  211Hp/370Nm(270lbft)@ 1.6Bar(23psi)boost pressure :o  Not to sure about that hump, its not something ive ever noticed on the road and the previous 3 dynos have been without the intercooler, so not a direct comparison.  Something you have to consider i guess is the shark map was written on the car before the intercooler and with only 800miles on the clock.

Shark%2Bmap%2Boverlaid%2Bwith%2Bstock%2Bmap.png

Sharkmap%2Boverlaid%2Bwith%2Bstock%2BAFR.png

Im not able to get to Jabba to collect my car until Friday afternoon now so ill add that graph alongside the stock when Jabba finish the car.  Fingers crossed i make a bit more with a bit less boost.

the bump is there on the stock map sy, a little down then up, just more pronounced on the remap... at 3500 revs, right when the supercharger stops... maybe just the flap slamming shut and feeding all the imput to the turbo?

Aren't the gearbox supposed to put limp-home when you pass 350 nm?

There are ways for the tuners to bypass the DSG limit to a certain degree by raising other parameters.

The new map is looking good. Have some figures on the new map now but they arent the final release figures as they are still tweaking things on it. BUT mid range neigh on identical, top end slightly more power and all with much less boost.

Sounds promising mate! More with less boost. Got to be a good thing

The results

The car was running the Pace intercooler, Pace Radiator, decat OEM downpipe, and the relevant map details shown below. All other parts were 100% standard.

I have the Shark stage 2 graph, stock graph and Jabbasport custom graph. All graphs have DIN correction which mean that the figures have been corrected to take into account the differing temperatures between the runs to make them directly comparable.

Normally the power & torque curves cross at 5252rpm. This isn't happening on these graphs due to the differing scales and the 2 x Vertical axis. (Thought id point this out before those with quick eyes notice).

Stock power

As you can see the figures look to be spot on. 179.7Hp/257NM (189 lbft). These are bang on what you would expect of a stock car, although bare in mind my car is not stock and has the IC/Rad and DP, so if anything the rollers were reading low.

img006.jpg

Shark Performance Stage 2 @ 1.6Bar(23psi)

211hp/375NM(276 lbft). This torque figure seems quite high and is thought to be above the torque limit that people believe is applied to the DSG box on this car. Jabbasport said that the DSG seemed to have 3 x flashes on it, so im guessing shark had managed to access it and raise the limiters. But the torque and power figures here are around the same as the previous dynodynamics run at the beginning of this post(which was done without the intercooler)

img007-1.jpg

Jabbasport custom @ 2.3Bar(19psi) 216Hp/357NM(263lbft)

Jabba had a tough criteria to meet, but have hit the nail in first time. Midrange very similar-slightly less, but thast because of the boost difference, spool of the turbo is faster and earlier, the requested boost is met across the entire RPM band and is 0.3Bar(4.3psi) lower, the N75 duty cycle now runns at a healthy 75-80%, the throttle map has been altered, there is slightly more peak power and they are keen for me to come back with a hybrid turbo B) B) B)

My thoughts

-Power delivery seems silky smooth and very progressive.

Mid-range isnt quite as strong as the Shark map ie, in 5th and 60 for an overtake, but change it down to 4th and its the same if not stronger.

-Top end - Not tried it to much tbh, the weather isnt ideal, but it feels very strong.

-Throttle map change - Seems to be a massive improvment. I had a try with the throttle at 3/4 and it is a lot more progressive rather than a sudden lurch. That was only in a straight line though, never fancied trying it in a fast corner on the roads tonight :D

Its a little to early to tell if the heat issues have disappeared as its very cold outside but id imagine that theres a huge decrease compared to before.

Theres also NO GREY/WHITE SMOKE.

Im massively impressed that Jabba have managed all the above with 0,3Bar(4.3psi) less boost than the previous map.

Very very happy with the results, very happy with the customer service and even better, Kev has been through the logs and maps with a fine tooth comb and the hybrid IS AN OPTION in the future. theres plenty of room on the high pressure fuel side and injectors. If anything the standard turbo is now the main restriction on the car. An intake will relieve the turbo now as its having to really suck the air in through the stock intake. The ITG should sort that one perfectly. So then its either a Loba Hybrid turbo swap or upgrade the compressor wheel on mine and trim the exhaust turbine a little.

Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy

And as if they couldnt do anything more to please me:

They have changed the settings of the XDS (electronic diff) from setting zero(weak) upto Setting 2(strong) and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Thats for another thread.

Ive now got the logs for standard and jabba custom for future reference and comparison. So i am going to graph them up and compare them to the previous logs i have with the shark map to see how they compare on boost/N75/fueling/intake air temps/timing etc.

Full review >>here<<

As said in another post it's very impressive!

Is the Loba Hybrid a real possibility? I'd love to see one on a Fab

Yeah its an option. Not a cheap one though

Yeah I saw it posted on their website for £2k!

Guessing apart from the intake and maybe an uprated fuel pump you are read to have that put on and mapped?

Would see a very healthy increase in power

fuel pump is fine.

The turbo is ready to go on. just mapping is all thats required.

The only issue is the chassis is made of jelly lol

Actually made from cake

Well look forward to seeing it if it does happen mate, looking forward to seeing it up the 1/4 mile this year

Doubtful. Im out of the country from April - December hence why im not in a huge rush

Have you ever considered a set of these?

https://shop.plasmaprojects.com/product_info/2/Plasma_Direct.html

I was crazy enough to buy a set for my S.E. Furby and they have helped a lot especially on high rpms where the engine is very demanding.

The result after installation was obvious right after the cpu adjusted (something around 50khm) Then I did a remap and the effect was even more powerful.

The car will defo need a remap after installation in order to take full advantage of these puppies. In the case of turbo engines a friend with 1.8 Superb gained 10hp and 35Nm extra torque.

Unfortunately the don't come cheap and they are like icing on a cake but since you enjoy pushing your Furby thought to bring them to your attention. :)

If you want further info let me know - the guys at Plasma Direct were very helpful especially since this was a first for them. Meaning tracking down which coils are suitable for our engines.

Not required on any cars like ours unless your running GT30 sized turbo s with massive boost, uprated internals etc etc.

They are need to make the spark stronger. Spark isnt an issue on ours. All you need to do is reduce the spark plug gap and they work perfect

You'll never believe what im doing with my car now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It incorporates part of my original plans and choices that never came to fruit, but as soon as i got mapped the opportunity arose TYPICAL......

I'll be watching this space then ;)
