Syndicate track car

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever tried to organise a syndicate track day car through Briskoda?

Me and a couple of friends did it a few years ago for the Nurburgring, worked out pretty well. We stopped it because it wasn't getting used and we normally all wanted to go out together so we never actually got a whole weekend with the car as we kept changing drivers every other lap.

We just had an old MK3 Golf GTi, had some mods, nothing major and that was pretty good fun.

Anyone done the same on here or elsewhere?

It was Pastyboys thead about sharing his Ibiza that got me thinking.

Perhaps we could get a Briskoda syndicate car on the go, hell if enough people chip in we could enter the Nurburgring 24HRS race next year!!

Hmmm... :D

Now there's an idea! What do we need? Lots of money I'm guessing just for insurances :D

If it's just for track you don't need insurance, just have to be prepared to write off the car if it all goes wrong. If it's the Nurburgring then yes we'll need insurance.

Trackday insurance is rather expensive, even for something oldish and cheap it'll be somewhere about £130 per day I think.

Doesn't need to be anything super special to have fun with.

hmmm, I know were there is a car but have you got the nads to drive it like you stole it round the ring.

I've done 80ish laps on the Nordschleife now and I wouldn't try and drive anything 'like I stole it' on there, just asking for trouble. I just try and do the smoothest lap I can and enjoy myself, it's like driving on your favourite B-road.

So we have stripped out 500bhp Skoda and we are just going to bimble round the track/B road for a little giggle. Hay, if we change up before 4000rpm we may even save on fuel. ;)

I'm with James on this one Delac. Looking at the bigger picture helps. The ring has a very frequent habit of biting back with extortionate costs for recovery and Armco replacement. Not to mention repair / replacement costs for the car and having to let the syndicate know you've just fooked up their weekend, track day etc. I would much rather be in a syndicate where everyone drives within their abilities and has respect for the car in terms of a bit of mechanical sympathy and above all consideration to the other members of the syndicate.

I'm assuming you actually haven't driven on the ring during a TF session?

More **** swinging. Oh well, offer withdrawn.

You lot are mad!!!

500bhp track focused octy + nurburgring + driving it as should be driven # omfg amazing!!!!!!!!

Dam shame you missed a trick there !!!

The ring is much more exciting to drive in something like a 172 clio cup rather than a 400+ bhp monster..

With less power you can learn the circuit, which will take 100's of laps and perfect your lines rather than arriving at corners far too quickly and getting lines messed up..

Very true. Best fun I've ever had was an Astra CDTi on a empty Tuesday afternoon. Some of my smoothest and (for me) most impressive laps, 10.06 BTG in a diesel Astra, I was pretty happy with that. I even managed to keep ahead of an experienced ringer in an Elise from Tiergarten all the way round to Swedishcross where I chickened out and he out braked me.

The worst days are at the weekends with the 'brits abroad' twazzocks in 500bhp Imprezas trying to wipe everyone else off the track and eventually causing an accident which closes the track.

It's no fun trying to go for the fastest time you can on a TF day you'll just get frustrated and the red mist will descend. If you want to go absolutely flat out, go on a proper track day and try your luck then.

I'd probably start a little closer to home than the 24hr race at the Ring!!

Maybe get some track days under someones belt before a couple take the plunge and go in for somethingl like the MSV Trackday Trophy or the [url="http://www.team-trophy.co.uk/Team Trophy[/url]

I'll happily stump up the Ibiza again

Or we syndicate buy a Fabia, strip it, cage it, get Allams to sponsor us (and thus pay!) and get to it ;)

I was thinking a MK1 Octavia vRS. They can produce circa 240PS pretty reliably I think, and they handle well.

Should be enough to be entertaining but not beyond the ability of most drivers.

Or another option would be an E36 M3, they are getting cheap now but fixing them when they go wrong will be a problem. A Skoda has an obvious benefit for me, especially if it's the Briskoda track car.

I'd stump up a remap FOC if this went ahead for some stickers :)

Were you serious about entering the Nurburgring 24hrs? This is a serious race requiring a class A race licence and so many entries into the VLN series (6hr race)to allow your entry .Would be good to do if you have the right calibre of drivers though. You can buy a place in a team for around 8k (Clio cup).

I was there this year and will be there next year but unfortunately i'll be on the wrong side of the fence drinking beer and eating sausages lol!

No I wasn't serious about doing it, I'm not good enough as a driver, nor do I know the track well enough to be competitive.

I did look into how much it costs to enter and the fuel you have to pre-pay for, but more out of interest than anything else.

I haven't been during the 24HRS before, keep wanting to go but never happens. I did watch most of it live though as I found someone streaming it online, I bet it's a great event to be at.

If you want a Ring toy find a German member on here, get the syndicate to buy the car and put it together, then send it over there and get the German guy to register and insure it out there and store it in his garage.

Sorted, and no worrying about insurance, it will be covered under German insurance.

It would have to pass the TUV though but I don't see a problem with that. Rollcage, harnesses etc. should all get through.

You then couldn't use it as a track car over here though :( And if someone did prang it they'd have to foot the bill for the excess and presumably cover the increase in insurance for the following year.

We could start small by entering the 12 hour Motorized Lawn Mower Race & build up!

I think it should be a souped up Feli myself..........proper old school & easily modifyable/light.

Top man!!

This is how uk-mkivs went about it. Maybe some food for thought.

You really need a core group of people, preferably located in the same area, to basically own a project like this. With those who donate funds/resources getting rides/advertising etc.

Rather than what can be done with no $ saved, what can be done for as little as poss. Demonstration of the best mods of which-ever base model skoda is used.

one of my mates had a got a vectra gsi , it was his first car and now its a track slut , right laugh we work on it far too much because we all break it latest was we fitted a quafe diff in an evening because we had a track day at brands which fails as we blew the box up , its no longer a gsi hasnt been for ages had a 3litre omega v6 in it , now to be replaces with a 3.2 v6 with 6 speed sequcial box out of a 99 vectra touring car we all throw money at it for a laugh split the costs a bit , so now the project starts again , fully striped aswel i dont think weve ever left a track with it still working tbh !

if youve got a group of mates who are willing to do it , crack on !

I'm in....
