vrs full leather

Featured Replies

out of interest how many people opted for it?

quite keen as it looks easier to clean / keep clean (kids!)

getting closer to ordering - asked Mitchell's of Chester to price match with drivethedeal today.... basically an extra 5% off list (minus the 20% deal)

Normally I'd say no as I prefer fabric, I had a BMW with leather and as it wore began to look shiny and cheap. Also it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Easy to clean though.

However I'm also not keen on the white patches on the standard vRS seats, whoever thought this was a good idea in a family car clearly doesn't have kids.

Anyway quite a few interesting thoughts on leather here:

As soon as I saw the standard seats and the 'white' patches, I just envisaged the state they would get in with my two kids (and me!). My last two cars (MG ZT and Saab 93) have had leather and in comparison, I am very impressed with the Skoda's. I also opted for the heated seats and again have found them to be very good.

In my humble opinion, well worth the extra money and worth remembering that if you are going for a 'vat free' deal that also applies to any options you choose so it will be less than the full £850 + £260 for the heated seats (if I recall correctly).

I didn't spec it on my 10-plate VRS (1st owner did) and I haven't tried the alternative but I love the leather in mine. Heated too!

I got full leather and the heated seats - if you're going for leather it's probably worth having the heating for those cold mornings.

It cleans well and of course doesn't show up dirt.

It's worth noting that it isn't 100% real leather, it's a combination of leather and "faux" but there is more leather than not.

Mine has a full Leather re-trim

+1 - the optional leather is not all actual leather, as already highlighted, and very expensive. Cheaper to go for an aftermarket re-trim that costs less and you get the real thing. Just get the heated seat option in anticipation!

As you can see by my signature, ive opted for it and cant wait!

Don't get me wrong - the re-trim is "nice" but I decided the OEM option looked nicer.

Price - about the same, I don't think Seat Surgeons are any less than £708?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I was led to believe that the bit you sit on is real leather the rest is not

Seat surgeons leather is the whole seat

£800 and it's unique to my Car

Your right Andy not full leather just the bit you sit on, and the part leather( standard )is side bolsters are leather, backs and rear bench all plastic

Which is why the £850 they ask for it is even more of a rip off.

Leather is nice, fake leather is not.

As mentioned above, tick the heated seats box but leave the leather box unticked then have them sorted properly by Seat Surgeons in York.

Take a look at some of the photo's on their website, and some of the options you can have too, much better quality and value than OEM...

We opted for leather for this reason:

1 toddler plus 1 bad stomach = barf session :S only happened a couple of times so far...

1 toddler plus some food = bits dropped everywhere

couple of wipes and all is good

Wouldn't fancy trying to clean puke off the white on the standard seats.

I would second the above, was very easy to clean up when my son was sick in the back of the car the other day. He did it just as I pulled into the drive (only had to wait 30 seconds more and would have been out of the car!!!!!). Wiped off very easily and no residual smell.

Unique isn't always good :)

I do have a complete list of what is leather and what isn't - I contacted Skoda UK before purchase.

There is more leather than some people have said.

Also the "faux" is not your classic plastic fake stuff - difficult to describe.

Maybe somebody else who has it can explain better.

The 'faux' sections are synthetic leather.

Tricky decision, OEM vs. Seat Surgeons but the 20% off inc options does bring the OEM choice closer in-line.

As for the fabric sections, treatment with Scotchguard makes cleaning those bits extremely easy, and general everyday dirt doesn't stick either.

On my old pd VRS the light bits wore well in terms of stains but did look a little worn (bobbled a bit etc) after nearly 4 years.

Agree go that bobbled way but certainly mine havent stained. I have still ordered the leather as i think it looks really good + wipeable now my wee one is 2 years old

Are you getting the car plus options with an extra 5% off? i.e. making an overall discount of 25%?

Can not seem to find any prices on Seat Surgeon website

What is the ball park cost for leather seats on a VRS (FL) to closely match the OEM leather seats i.e. perforated and in a single colour

With the VAT off options taking it from £850 - 20% I dont think seat surgeons will beat that. Plus the extra hassle of getting your new car to put it in for a few days to be altered, is it worth it? IMO I couldnt be bothered. I believe the factory option to be worth it, especially as the VAT is off the price. :D:)

I am still recovering from the shock of learning that only some of the "full" leather is actually leather. That said though, what has always been true is that even the "leather" that is used for car seats already had only a loose parentage with the poor animal whose skin is being used. As I understand they use a cheap split from the underhide and coat it with (yes you probably guessed it) plastic, to give it the surface durability and finish we all expect. Real leather, i.e. natural or even chrome tanned full hide, replete with all its variations and defects, looks and feels nothing like it.

I am not sure though whether that improves my outlook or just drags me further into the pit of despair at having been conned out of £700.

Sit down, keep calm and take long deep breaths into a brown paper bag, you'll soon feel better

If that fails get your self down to the Pub.
