What is the average MPG

My 1.6 TDI CR has done only 10000 in 16 months. Had no engine problems or other related mechanical problems so far. Turbo kicks in at around 1800 RPM. No DPF issues so far. I bought this engine for overall running economy and seems to be doing reasonable so far. I have had various mpgs. Motorway 300miles 60-70mph with AC on atleast half of this journey returned 13 mpl brim to brim refueling. Once it showed 71.6mpg on a 14 mile trip but drove at 55-60 mph and the road did slope slightly for about 3 miles. Currently doing 18 mile run one way(takes 70 minutes due to heavy slow traffic including on A road and motorway)with average speed of about 20 mph and returned 11.0 -11.25 mpl consistently brim to brim and meter shows around 52mpg. I think its probably not very different from 1.9 PD engine.

Thinking of going for this one, I am spending an average £450 a month on diesel at £137.7 from Asda or £140.9 from other local outlets

I have found an LPG supplier at £0.70.3 per litre so could potentially save around half what I am spending

Has anyone got the 1.6 se petrol, whats your average from a tank??????

I've had a 1.6SE Estate since the end of July (I got it on their 25% off deal so it was £10990 OTR, plus £75 for the spare wheel). Averaging mid 30's after 4k miles, with the majority of time spent round town. On a run it will do low to mid 40's. It lacks low down punch (I came from a 1.9TDi), but is smooth and quiet and refined. With a 10p/litre difference in fuel costs vs diesel now, the compromise on economy and running costs is making more sense as well. I have thought about a conversion, but am not sure how this would affect the warranty?

On the downside, I found out that SE spec doesn't include a washer fluid warning, when mine ran out!!

What sort of MPG are getting out of your diesel?

Although the cost per litre is lower the mpg of the petrol will be at a combined(official) of 39.2mpg (and I believe that LPG powered cars do slightly less mpg than petrol) the cost won't be halved as you will use a lot more.

I am averaging around 45 in town with my 1.9, and I know I will loose around 2 mpg changing to LPG but if I can get around 30 mpg around town I will be happy

I average about 35 mpg in my 11 reg 1.6mpi se - I got the 25% off deal too

Most of our miles are in town, covered just over 6000 miles in 7 months so far, I'm putting about 160 quid a month in the tank

Last tank on mine 1.6 se 430 just gone into red when I filled car done about 6K since new.

I drove a loan car for a bit a few years ago and found it just fine. Not fast, but kept up with the flow OK :)

Well went for a test drive today in it, found it very sluggish compared to the 1.9 diesel.

They have had it converted by a company in Edinburgh, it has a 70 litre tank in the spare wheel well, and they have fitted a false floor, and a range of around 400 miles, but does not show on the new NOT maxi dote screen, as only the petrol side shows

road tax is only around £10 cheaper if its declared with the DVLA, still around £50 more than mine

Did like the new seats though nice and supportive, and I also liked the new bigger door mirrors, apparently they will fit mine as the bolt holes are the same and the wiring,, so just need to get some off the FL now, it was like driving a ford transit looking at them :giggle:

Did not like having to put the clutch in to start it.

Also had a drive in the 1.6 CR tdi no thanks again to sluggish, and this one has 30,000 miles on it so was run in

How the Superb owners with the 1.6 CR TDI cope is beyond me

It just feels sluggish, because "the kick" is not there.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h:

- 1.6 petrol: 12,3 sec

- 1.9 diesel: 11,8 sec

Acceleration wise they're quite the same (0,5 sec difference), although they feel very different.

And finally - it's not even fair to compare a turbocharged engine with a non turbo one.

I have driven 1.9TDI a few times and I hate it. It "kicks" like hell and then it's out of breath a moment later.

I had the 1.6 MPi in a Leon up to 140k km. Not particularly frugal but the engine never used so much as a drop of oil in that time, and was lively enough for what it was. The main problem is the gearbox bearings go in quite a few of them.
