Saw Mark last night

His jetwash is downvalved but normal ones OK & no need to spend heavily, the cheapestt Kar*** (whatever they are called) will do.

Steer well clear of any form of steam cleaner, thats what really gets in yer leccy bits

Hes home in the next couple of days & will post his guide to jetwashing

Got the mystery wax so time to test !!!!

Stuart

:) Hi Gang

Re pressure washers.

The best is a Karcher pressure washer. I use the cheapest and smallest one they do and have added an extension hose and and extension lance.

Yes I have slightly modified it....I have re-valved the thing to produce around 45 bar 660 psi) of water pressure. Why?cos sometimes I have to work on some old exotic machinery.

However, in standard form the washer is just fine. The base machine comes with a very small tip which is ideal for getting into small places and also for wheel cleaning.

Just buy the real bottom of the range machine from Karcher. Mine is now some 3 yrs old and you can imagine the use it gets.

NEVER ever use a steam cleaner...the pressure is around 3000psi and the temperature is around 110'C. Steam has a nasty habit of filtering into electrics and WILL be a problem.

On modern petrol engines as well as diesels one can stream water all over the engine and YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM.

:D Rgds....Mark

Mark - where would you classify a 20 year old 928? :D

A 20 yr old 928? Its a Porsche and dead easy to work on inc the engine bay. Done many without any problems at all.

Just concerned about its electrics - they're somewhat on the temperamental side at the best of times ...

First "wash cycle" last night. For both cars, (the Mondeo and the Octy) took a total of 1.5 hrs. This included cleaning the alloys on both cars, a full wash and a "frontal" wax. All without breaking a sweat.

Washing is soooooo much easier with the paint seal/wax finish. In fact I could almost have got away with just jet washing and then drying off. I've also bought one of the Autoglym Hydrablade things - makes drying off so much quicker.

The Octy's getting a full wax next week before setting off on hols "up north". Hopefully it will be nice and shiny for the meet!!

Cheers,

Howard

You too, eh? :D

I washed mine on Saturday evening, just after dinner and spend about 2 hours (what can I say, I'm just meticulously precise in cleaning and drying) doing the same as Howard describes above, and it was absolutely brand-spanking sparkling. And the only sweat I broke was due to the weather... Pfwoaah, what a temperatures :D

Oh, and I forgot what Mark used on the windows so I resorted to the Autoglym window stuff which I'm going to throw straight in the bin next time I find myself reaching for it... What a rubbish that is.

Something like Mr Muscle Window and Glass cleaner and some newspaper was used IIRC. Just mist it on and then dry and buff with the newspaper.

Newspaper?

gawd.. he really must know all the tricks.. peanut butter, now newspaper

Best thing for cleaning windows is Vinegar, Water & Newspaper, Its messy but works a treat. Its what people used before all these fancy expensive window cleaners came out & IMO is still the best

Only Mark would be able to answer that. MC2 comes in a unlabeled 5L bottle and smells lovely.

Don't think so the MC2 isn't solvent based and contains only natural citrus type ingredients so it won't poison the little fishies in the streams and oceans.

I think its very enviromentally friendly but dont drink it as it wont do you a lot of Good

Newspaper works wonders on glass! Seen the results myself.:cool:

Mark mentioned that there are chemicals in either the paper or the ink that make it more effective. Seems to work for me (as does the peanut butter - that works a treat!! ;) )

have to say  on the results with the cars, they look amazing!!

if only mark covered scotland too :(

oh well i have my swissol starter kit :D

How Much :o

Kenny, If you are seriously interested mail Mark, If hes doing another car further South you might be able to drive down & he could do 2 at once, He has a lot of regular clients who dont mind an extra car turning up, weve had a couple here, we even had the infamous Octavia SDI here last week. Alternativly if there is enough demand in Scotland he may well come up, he may already have others in Scotland interested. Hes done cars in Geneva for the Motor show & has a client in Germany who flies him out to do a show car (not suggesting you can afford that) But dont rule him out for coming to the North.

Manguish, mail mark re costs, he dosent post costs etc, its all dependant on travelling etc. he normally tries to book cars in an area to spread travelling costs. The more flexible you are on Dates the better it will be

just Zymoled mine

I've had the Zymol for 3 years, its still going strong although the feeling of utter stupidity as you rub your car up never really goes away......................
