Fabia vRS Hamster Cage Mod

Featured Replies

i did think of doing something simular to the inner arch on my octy but thought i'd rather have a more "factory" look so as not to raise too many questions from the dealer. mind you i'm sure the jabba induction kit will raise an eye brow or two when the car goes for a service tomorrow... lol

yeah i think it may raise a few eye brows :D

the TT vent is probably the most 'factory looking'

TT vent

Fit it right and they need never know, just ordered the parts - told the chap I had a Skoda and he said, we've had a few requests for them already! He also said one chap in an Octavia vRS has done this who he knows and reported a much better response from the engine. Forgot to ask for the part number, but I pick it up on good friday, so i'll let you all know then :D

how much was it mate? did you order a TT vent or S3?

The one on a Seat seems to be more in the corner of the liner to make use of the Vortex. The guy is modding from a Skoda style SMIC to a Forge FMIC big ain't it.

I wonder if the wheelarch liner for the Ibiza would fit as a stright swap in the Furby? Now that would make life easy wouldn't it...?

I bought the TT one and it was

do you know the part number mate?

do you know the part number mate?

Sorry mate forgot to get it - however if you can get the Seat Ibiza arch liner im sure it'd be a near perfect swap as quite alot of the Ibiza things seem to bolt straight on the Fabia ;)

no probs mate, i have an octavia anyway so i will be going down the TT route

The only potential problem I can see with fitting a mesh across the hole is that on a wet and muddy day there would be splashing threw the grill of muddy water that may or may not hit the intercooler and dry on there thus leaving muddy deposits on the intercooler fins again reducing the efficiency of the intercooler, with the louver type mod this would be drastically reduced as the fins are facing down.

Other than that good work Josh

I'll get the jetwash in there to clear the mud off!

hehe

No worries...

The next "how to" guide that I'm currently working on is the IC Spray.

It's a bit more work than the hamster cage though!

A tip - go easy with the jet wash Josh! Did that on my last car and the membranes of the air con rad were split apart by the force of the water!

I had a bit of an incident with a jetwash and a radiator a long time ago

Have you got the I/C kit yet Josh??

This would be most interesting.

Looks like the bottom part of the ibiza liner is different to the furby as it wraps underneath and below the front bumper/spoiler. Maybe you could just cut this part off to fit the fabia.

Josh that maybe so but do you jet wash through the intercooler fins ?

Just being objective here

I'm going to attempt to order the Ibiza one, after cancelling my TT order as I think the Ibiza would be a better fit. I am guessing that only the FR/Cupra would have the fins though? and would the FR/Cupra diesel have the fins?

have posted this question on seatcupra.net to see if anyone can help, i'm also going to take a trip to my friendly seat dealer as the chap couldnt help me over the phone.

forgot to ask, do all the TT models have the vent in the arch liner? or do i need to ask for a specific model?

Phil

Grab a flashlight and have a nosey in that gap you're on about...

You should be able to see a bar code sticker.

That's on the side of the IC.

I doubt this "vent" serves much purpose other than aesthetics.

But good call anyway.

You're dead right Josh, that vent at the side does nothing for venting the I/C. But I did notice that at the bottom leading edge of the arch liner there is a vent of sorts about 1/2" deep running across the width of liner through which air from the I/C can escape. I'm sure your mod will greatly improve that though. Cheers.

I just said a teh TT arch liner on the drivers side, the one with the vent in and he instantly knew what I meant.

Just got a reponse from seatcupra and it appears that all TDi Ibiza's (new shape) do have the fins, so i'm going to order that one as it's much closer in the VAG blood line than the TT would be, it may even be a straight swap, or just a little mod.

If it goes on OK will you post the part number here?

Funnily enough I was bleeding my brakes through on Friday with DOT 5.1 (which made a shockingly instant difference BTW, the standard Skoda fluid must be p*** poor as the car only has 4k miles, anyway) and I had the wheel off, so I thought about how I could do a mod like this.

Side mount intercoolers are notoriously nad for air flow and I did a similar mod to Josh's on my 200SX which seemed to do the trick - can't state power figures but the boost gauge showed the engine didn't retard the boost as much on a hot day after doing this as it did before, so it must have done some good! Cheapskate mods are the way to go!!! :D

Does anyone know if the TT arch lining is the same size as the octy one?

I think they are different sizes (see link below) :)

Although it might just be that they have cut it down a bit already. I'm wondering whether one from an S3 (if they have the vent fitted  ) would fit.

I will also check to see if the Seat Leon Cupra R tomorrow as I have one lying about!!!

I have been advised by a source at Seat in Leeds that the Ibiza FR TDi uses the same arch liner as the Fabia does, I have no way of confirming this, but I will be ordering the part when they are open tomorrow and WILL post the part number & do a quick review like Josh did just so everyone is in the know about what exactly needs to be done.
